I'm trying to get into doing DED and Unrated sites (really want to sell those faction items) in high sec
However I can't really find many (only 2 in 2 days)
Do they only appear at a certain security rating or do people hover them up as they spawn? The cruiser level ones I tired weren't too hard to complete However I didn't find any faction items. |

Keep looking. Highsec has lots and lots of explorers. If you're in Caldari space, get out, try the back ends of Amarr instead.
As for faction/deadspace items, they're not a guaranteed drop, they're random (like the places the sites spawn). |

Actually I'm in Gallente space. which is probaly also rather busy. In fact the last site had someone else doing it as well. Had to race to grab the final loot. Nothing much but still worth 3m
I know about the random drops but its still anoying not to find anything. |

If you get annoyed by not finding loot, exploration's a bad choice. Lots of times only junk and the OPE will drop from a site. |

its bareable but does anyone know how likely is it for them to drop the good stuff? |

Random is random. I've had weeks where sod all dropped worth more than 2 million per item, then had 3 50-100mil drops in a row.
Its part of what attracted me to Exploration to begin with. The discovery of something special. Then CCP made Exploration easymode and now every arse and his toiletpaper are out there doing it. Usually in the biggest ship that will fit, where I prefer to use the smallest ship that can pull it off.

If anyone has done a truly detailed statistically analysis with a high enough n to matter it hasn't been made public.
Personally, I'm seeing ~50% drop rate of some sort of deadspace mod, and that isn't including faction drops. But that's from low sec and it's really just a single site that I happen to prefer. Granted, a lot of the mods are kind of uninspiring, but jackpot drops do happen.
As for finding them: just scan more. And faster if you can. You'll find your sites. |

Bear in mind that if the good stuff dropped often, it wouldn't be the good stuff for long due to over-supply. Witness what happened to decryptor prices after Odyssey when everyone and their Targ went out exploring. |

Well I'm been doing some more high sec sites. About 3.
No faction or pirate dropes. Still the OPEs give reasonble ISK
May have to start trying it out in Low sec. |

You could also check high sec islands, sites tend to pile up where fewer people go.
With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Also can you only detect combat sites if you in the required ship?
Because I can't find any frigate only sites. Or have they been removed? |

No. To detect the sites you need to enter the system (the system scanner will show up all sigs), to pinpoint them you need a probe launcher, probes and the correct skills. That's it.

^ this
You can scan in any ship as long as you fit the launcher and carry the correct probes.
I do most of my exploration in an Ishkur and get everything from Unrated Combats through DED 2-4/10s in high sec.
The bonuses are nice, but by no means essential and there is certainly no "specific ship required to find this site" rule. Specific SIZE of ship to ENTER some sites, yes , but not to find them, |

Are the back ends of Amarr space better than the back ends of Minmatar or Gallente space? Or is it just because there's a lot more of Amarr space? |

Point is that less people in the system better it is. So, quiet system in Gallente/Minmatar space isn't any worse than quiet system in Amarr space. Amarr space is a lot bigger so finding a quiet system is a bit easier. |

Yes.
Take Sing Laison, roughly 8 highsec systems that have had fewer than 1000 jumps in the last 24 hours (dotlan). Domain, 15 and I stopped counting. That's connected highsec, not islands.
Now that's no guarantee that you'll find sites, but there's more space to search.
