40k on a 174k item? So a 25% increase?
Hope you increase the sell price by a similar amount, otherwise your margins could very easily....erm...decrease to approaching 0. |

I dropped the million, i really shouldn't have but I did, now deal with it.
and if the margins go below 4% I simply cancel the order and pick another item, I don't fuss around when trading, updating over 100 orders at a time for 1 hour or more at a time is enough to drive me insane without all the hassle of spreadsheets or caring how much it is exactly I'm making per item. |

I will do this again & again & again & again & again until I have trampled my competitors into the dirt. If you're going to compete with me you'd better have stamina and determination and if you're going to use a bot you had damned well better know how to USE it because I WILL find the holes.
Taking losses in the short term is a long term investment.
yes but I will also just outbid and under cut you all the same, except I won't deliberately destroy profits, I'll let you do that to your self and when you return your orders back to making a profit I'll setup a new order and the cycle repeats because you're a stupid stubborn fool who can't see past their own stupid greed and nor can you see that I also actually don't care what you're doing I just make isk on all the other items while you ruin your self both financially and emotionally. You're distressing only your self, not people like me because only a fool would put all of their eggs in one basket, the moment the profit starts dying I'm already out of that item because my buy order has already been filled and I'm now selling it...

Look do I really care? I'm just explain to an idiot what that idiot is actually doing...
I needed a plex yesterday to pay for my account, I had only 400 mil isk, I went to jita and station traded for about 12 hours, I made 454 million isk profit in just that one day, that's over 100% of starting capital , I saw countless idiots along the way but they did not stop me from making my isk... |

You think I don't understand the concept of many traders/bots?
I never said anything to suggest that, I stated my opinion that trying to destroy profit to push other traders out is the act of an idiot, who really is just wasting there own time and not mine or other peoples. I've explained to you why I just carry on making profit regardless of what you are that other idiot thinks.

Hi. Longtime listener, first time caller.
I'm new to the EVE station trading game but day traded my way through the dot com boom and bust of the 90's so I thought it would be worth a few lulz to see how people react to market manipulations in space. Not surprised to see that much like every other aspect of EVE, the tears flow at a steady pace from those who just really don't get it. That would be you, OP.
I'm a pisant compared to most of you birronaires -- having only thrown half a billion into this alt to give it a shot. Easy money but really not worth it to get bent out of shape (nay, have your gears ground) over people who are also trying to make money.
It's all PvP. Life is all PvP. Have fun, make some ISK, and gain some contacts so you can spend the next few years screwing each other over. |

I mostly trade in low volume high profit items. Every once in awhile, someone come in and drops their items on the market well below the normal price. In most cases it is just someone wanting to unload their product fast... fair enough. I either ignore it, buy them out or play pricing games with them until the price is low enough to buy them out. Until....
A player comes in a drops prices across a large number of items I trade in and with volumes that equal 6-12 months of normal sales. The market responds by most everyone else undercutting this new seller. The big seller ends up getting involved in the .01 ISK game.
What was this player trying to do or is doing? I can see that a ceiling on sales prices is established, and that the historic sales price is the lowest in a year, yet profits are still in the 200-300% range and there is no indication the big seller is buying.
I don't get it.
Note: Sorry no tears. Either the big player doesn't know what they are doing... no problem. Or they have a very well thought out plan, which I hopefully want to be around to see unfold. I might learn something.

'Strong arm' is just vernacular for heavy handed tactics to force change.
Emails are just done by a simple PHP script run by crontab every hour. It checks the current prices at the hubs vs inventory purchase price in my database. If there's a profit greater than x million to be made it emails me. Otherwise I can check manually whenever I want. I generally don't mind large undercuts, as it is a legitimate tactic used to crash a market and/or push out competition.
What I do mind is when the person doing it clearly hasn't got a grasp of what the item is worth. If an item costs 5m to manufacture and I can currently sell for 12m i'm very happy. If somebody crashes the market to 5.5m I think "fair play, pushing out competition". If somebody undercuts to 10m I don't get it. It certainly won't push anyone out of the market, certainly won't make people buy up your stack and re-list and certainly won't draw new buyers into the market.
If it's market PvP it's a fairly poor attempt, like throwing a Rifter at an Obelisk. |

I liked your post. No snark and coming from a very practical world view. The beauty of this and what makes it appealing to many is that we're not all a bunch of bean counters pouring over spreadsheets. Some are and some are egomaniacs and some are conditioned to believe that getting money back in the wallet ASAP is a safe bet even if it means a haircut.
The difference between your not getting it and OP not getting it is that you at least appreciate that the different styles, even the dumb ones, are part of doing business. I may have misread OP but my take-away was that his gears were ground by people not playing the way he wanted them to. Which is fine but not conducive to having a positive experience as a station trader.

I don't mind undercutting by 100m if i sell faster.Time=money. So if it's 160% lower, does that mean they pay you 60% of the original price to take the item? There is a 3rd option by the way: cut the loss, sell as best as you can then reinvest. And usually if you undercut by 100m, you will be selling to resellers that will make a good profit. You can't undercut many items by 100m and get a good deal, so unless the price is unusually inflated, you're selling too low. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. |

It's called finding the breaking point without eliminating more profit than necessary. You can't tell with one undercut how active each trader at that price point is, and what their individual minimums are. And you also can't tell if there are other aggressive undercutters who will do the hard work without you exposing your stack. I see often enough the price of an item below my minimum dive bomb, the competition crap each other out, and the price spikes right back to my price point.

same as what i do.
if iv got a stack and the prices get progressively lower to the point where its no longer profitable for me to trade it then ill remove the stack, place that item on my watch list then check it every few days.
all items i've been doing this for come back around to my liked profit levels eventually. may take a day or a week but they get there and then i put up the sell order again.
