Theres a big time bug in the 0.6.1 version, dont bother using it with secuirty filters.. it wont show any trade routes if you have the settings any different then 0.0-1.0 (for range settings)

looks like its trying to forward the exported files (for sharing of data between other users) to an address it cant find.
Check to see if the values for
remoteserver remoteport
in evetrader.properties are correct. The more recent builds have better error handling. If you want to reset it to the default values then delete the lines from the properties file. The posting feature is experimental at the moment, hence the reason there is no manual setting in the options screen. Hope that helps.

Tharanor,
I have been developing a simliar application in VB5 (pathetic i know, but we use what we have) and it has some abilities yours doesn't. With my workload I don't have the time to keep investing in the tool, but the features are just to much not to have.
If I gave you the code could you migrate it to your java app?
The key features I have in mine is: 1) multi-region buy/sell matching 2) best matches based FROM a specific system 3) Best matches based FROM PROXIMITY to a specific system 4) Best matches for entire export set. 5) Per jump profit filtering and total profit filtering. 6) System to System min jump calculations that restrict passage on sec level (matches high sec filter in game map).
Example: From an export of Sing Laison and Citadel regions (all industrial and consumer products). The program will load all the trade export data, item data and map data. The user can then decide what typoe of search they want: a) From a specific system only, such as Ingheges. This search will only look for items that can be bought in Inghenges and will return a list of destinations buying that merchandise. Restrictions can be placed on the route security (as per EVE map), min profit per jump, min profit overall. b) From proximity to a specific system, such as Inghenges. If you are in Inhenges and want to look for the best profit per jump value. Result will show multiple possibilities from jumping X number of jumps to pick up Y product and deliver to Z system. The profit per jump accounts for the travel time from Inghenges to system Z. c) Search of all possible trades in the regions loaded, showing the highest profit for the trade. Does not account for travel time to the Selling system.
Pretty much I would prefer to reduce my development time to leave more RL time.
Let me know what you think.

Dear Tharanor,
Would it be possible to have an option allowing us to automatically delete the old exported files?
I think it would be very handy.
Thanks!

Call me paranoid if you will, but.....
Since this works through the in game browser it apparently has communication capabilities.
How hard would it be to add the code to track account names & passwords and then dump that to the website each time you access it?
That is of course assuming it doesn't already do that...

Yes you're paranoid
Well i suppose Tharanor will answer to your post, but since i'm an HAPPY and GRATEFUL user of his tool i'd answer this:
First, you don't have to use the ingame browser. You can, but it's not necessary. I run the Trade Route Finder in an Internet Explorer window, and sometimes i do that even when i'm not connected to EVE, if i want to study the market. The Trade Route Finder just uses the data files you have exported.
Second, and that's the most important, the code source is available! Everything in this tool is TRANSPARENT.
So, relax, man...

There are some features available in the IGB that allows the program to access information such as what station you are in etc.
However, the IGB has a 'trusted' mode that you must manually confirm before the IGB will send you the information.
The current version of the tool does not use these features, but I was planning _OPTIONAL_ support for things such as distance from your current location.
A good article on the subject is available from: http://eve.grismar.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=TrustPage

Tharanor, you include the source/build file for your application, but you forgot to include your libs.jar you used. You should include some documentation on the source, so much hunting down to get this to compile properly.

The evetrader.jar contains all the nessicary class files to compile the program.

No need to worry the IGB don't give access to acount password even in trusted mode.
And bravo for this tool tharanor ! (and for sharing it as most traders don't)

What all does the .bat file do upon extracting the .jar?
What files does it add or modify, and where? Same question on registry edits, etc.
How do you go about uninstalling this program? |
Piz Zum
|
Posted - 2006.01.05 04:13:00 -
[46]
bat simply runs the jar, but since the jar is a console app, if you double click the jar, java will run it in the background, meaning you cannot close it without terminating the process. Run it in a batch file, and universal capability to close the app no matter the users settings.
It doesnt do anythign to your computer, except write out the properties file, bind to port 80 in your primary NIC, and monitors for certain files in your eve folder (market data).
You can't uninstall since there is no install. Extract and run the batch file. If you want to get rid of it, you delete the folder(or files) that you extracted.

BTW I think your finder is messing up big time since my top list, with complelty open finding, it shows me the exact opposite of what I want to know.. but yet still pumps out some of the right data.. so there are some intense logic screw up since v0.6. 0.6.1 was busted, and now 0.7 is just "not working as intended".

So let me get this straight.
This tool cuts out all the thinking and grunt work of trading, so that everyone and their mother knows the best trade routes instantly?
And this is a good thing?

Edited by: Tharanor on 06/01/2006 17:27:04 Exactly. Cuts out all the boring scribbling down of prices, and lets users do what they want to do:
trade.
Nothing like a bit of healthy compettion.

Not sure where it went wrong, but I'm guessing its that port 80 issue you talked about in the readme and when you first posted. EDIT: I tried modifying the file you specified but I couldn't get it to open so I could change it
Note: I have the latest version of Java that I could find from their site ( think its ver. 3 or something like that )
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
