Since the can flagging rules came out I have had my ship shot out under me twice. I can tell you that I LOVE IT!!! As a miner I used to not be able to do a damn thing about ore theft and now I can. If others aren't happy with the system I say oh well.
BTW- I have also killed one hauler, a cruiser, and an assault frigate. I never knew that mining was this much fun.

Before RMR I posted a bit about not be able to protect my mined ore, hopefully in a contructive way rather than whining about it. Along comes RMR and, lo and behold, we got what we asked for. We now mine in teams and have so far claimed one indy and a cruiser. Its "made" us rethink our mining strategies and introduced a whole new cooperative aspect to mining which is great. To all the miners who seem unhappy with what we now have, consider this.

Well you all can name it "whining" but why isn't a jettisoned can secured with a password? That would take all the whining in the EVe universe away. Just a simple as that. Or make the current secure containers bigger.
Or go mining in lower secure spacer where the thiefs don't dare to come. Don't forget your Dominix though.
But please cut it out calling everyone a "carebear" who doesnt do PvP-ing or play the game like you do. Remeber that those miners are neede for the whole market system and the production of your battleship and modules.

You're right. It's whining. The second bit about mining in lowsec is valid though. Inappropriate signature removed - Cortes |

I have to agree for the most part with the OP.
Regardless of what happens, people are never going to be happy. As long as they are careful now, the system really has no impact on them except that it gives the OPTION to try and fight back, rather than just watch helplessly.
Ore thieving will still happen like it used to, but now there is a chance of retribution rather than just complete helplessness. -Zyck CEO of Principium |

Ok, I can kinda understand the complaint. The flagging abuse happens when some comes by in lets say, an interceptor and moves 27k worth of ore from the miner's can to their own. The inteceptor isn't really stealing the ore at this point, but is basically taking ownership of it and can legally attack if anyone tries to recover it.
Even if you're starting out in the game, this can be a huge annoyance if you run into the wrong kind of players who use this as a form of harassment.
On the other hand, it is a method that is *****ing down on MM's so there is a good side to the flagging system.
Used as a means to pick a fight, rather than to protect your investment is where it has gone a little awry. It's clever, but at the same time probably not CCP's intended use of it.

Honestly, I wonder if CCP actually snickered at its abuse potential, knowing that miners were going to get more than they thought they would.
As for me, I fully plan on abuseing this system until its fundamental problems are fully realized by all concerned. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |
