Video here.
An interesting video about how the BBC is covering self censorship in the form of Block Bot, maintained by a third party who may or may not have an ideological bent (hint I think they do but make your own conclusion based on viewing the data, wham!).
Of note is that trolling has only seemingly been noticed by the media for the first time here and they are up in arms over how sexist/racist/insert trollable issue here the internet is. So far I am yet to see anyone on air for more than 30 seconds before shouted down by "but women" when explaining that trolling is where you find a hot button and spam it like you want to warp off when your ship just exploded in a camp.
Anyhoo, I filed off my first complaint, on the grounds of they did not appear to actually consider motivation of those making the list, or do exhaustive research on how the system works. Which for the record, is "they are criticising us, ergo they are against us, therefore those anti censorship people are on our list".

Just something interesting in the news lately, on the radio, TV....
It's just getting to the part where impractical solutions are being discussed to counter trolls, on the assumption that trolls are portraying their deeply held opinions as opposed to, well trolling.
What were you refering to?

BBC Response to my complaint wrote:
Thank you for your e-mail.
The report on GÇÿNewsnightGÇÖ on 30 July which featured The Block Bot was part of an ongoing news story on the use of Twitter and its consequences, which has generated a great deal of debate across all forms of media. We received a number of contacts about this broadcast and in order to reply promptly and to use the licence fee efficiently we are sending a single response to everyone. However we would like to reassure you that your concerns about the programme were brought to the attention of GÇÿNewsnightGÇÖ and senior BBC management.
At no stage in the GÇÿNewsnightGÇÖ report was any individual named as being on The Block BotGÇÖs list. The report also did not mention how the list of names might be obtained. As you are probably aware, the list of names on The Block Bot is updated constantly and numbers many hundreds.
Although the script explained that The Block Bot was self-policing, and the report clearly showed on screen that The Block Bot has different levels of blocking, the report could have explained those details more clearly.
In a subsequent report on GÇÿNewsnightGÇÖ on 31 July 31 the programme reported the ongoing debate on the use of tools like The Block Bot, including the fact that some of those who are blocked by it object to their blocking. Again, no names were mentioned.
I hope this address your concerns. Thank you for taking the time to raise them with us.
Kind Regards
Jared Kearney
BBC Complaints
In my initial complaint, I was complaining that they were not checking and researching names on the list, as even in the top 10 there was at least 1 example of censorship based on criticism. as opposed to being a troll.
Also for the record I pay the licence fee.

YO Grim, you are not the only 'enlightened' person in this thread. This has nothing to do with 'us' just finding something new out about people. This is about a fellow EVE player presenting us with a new form of censorship which shows us just another example of how people would rather someone else take care of them.
Thank you for implying everyone above your post falls into the ignorant group you mentioned |

No, we just figured that they wouldn't run before they could crawl and leap to some genuinely disturbing conclusions that I reserved for psychopaths and not the public at large. I do not expect the journalists of the BBC to go from making sure that there is always a counterpoint, no matter how obvious it is (bring on the BNP as they were a legitimate political faction earned kudos from me as they stood on principle against public opinion) to this. They got the counter to trolls from tech people wanted, then didn't check how it works or who it blocks. That's my point of contention.
But then we get back to the Miligram Experiment which lead me to conclude Democracy is very much overrated.

Singapore sounds like loads of fun, but I (perhaps futilely I grant you) that the West can be corrected over time with the right pressure. As long as we have free speech it can be fixed, as long as I'm given a vote I'll weight it carefully and act accordingly.
Downside of Singapore I noted was that you need to handover your private decryption keys for email to the Government, but if I'm mentioning that its because that's one of the things that's near the top of the problems column. Its a very small column you see...

The BBCs cred has been in the toilet since the Balen Report. and long before.
Its so filled with PC talking heads who are there thanks to knowing the right sort of people.

Been on the rocks since I cracked Horizon being full of Green fluff, which is why Question TIme is my favourite show on TV (when its on). Bringing the BNP on got me some respect from having the balls to follow through on their balance going right and left, as opposed to their current leanings. I also like Jeremy Vine for the same reason, know he's got his own perspective and he's not letting that get in the way of a 2 or more perspective debate.
BBC has its political bias, has news come out a day late many times and dumbs down stuff to a level I find intolerable.
I'm hopeful though not expectful that their relocation from London to a less shiny part of the country will reaquaint them with honesty. Given how many senior staff have been spooked by the idea of leaving London for the North one can't help but wonder if the more hardy types will be running the place after.
Keep it civil, keep it a platform not a soapbox, all I want.

A large component of the future, but not the whole thing
Still South America, still grin over the data for Africa as only one of the big ones needs to strike gold with a long term thinking competent government like China got to settle and set the example for the rest.
Agree on the women, but I have to say Brazil has gotten somewhat more attention over the last few days.
