When I log on to Eve, the client crashes within 1 minute of logging on. This happens whether I'm docked, undocked, Incarna disabled, etc.
Troubleshooting steps I've tried so far:
Tried two different accounts. Both crash.
Ran a chkdsk. No errors detected. Still crashes.
Updated to the latest Nvidia drivers (new driver released a couple days ago). Same problem.
Rebooted. Didn't help at all.
Ran Windows Update. Crash.
Cleared the cache. Crash.
Cleared the cache and removed write permissions to the directory. All chat portraits are now gone and just the silhouette appears. But it still crashed.
Ran Eve in Safe Mode. Man it's ugly, but it still crashes.
The game is basically unplayable at this point. I only have enough time to set my skill queue before crashing. Any other ideas?

What error do you get when the client crashes (if any), or does the client simply restart back to the login screen?

In addition to what GM Xamother said:
Have you tried running the repair tool? If you have corrupted .stuff files in your install, it could lead to a crash. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

The screen goes black, the desktop reappears, and then, a few seconds later, the logon screen reappears.
I just tried doing the repair - it didn't say that anything needed repairing, but I'm logged in now for 5 minutes (longer than I've been able to in 2 days). That might have fixed the problem :)
All the settings are back to minimal graphics settings, so I'm guessing that's leftover from safe mode. Will try re-enabling them one at a time and seeing if the problem comes back. Hopefully the repair was all that was needed |

Usually if the client just restarts without an error message that's an indication that you're loosing connection to the server. This can be verified by using the LogServer program, and see from the logserver the reason why the application was closed (look for the word 'disconnect' or 'socket closed'). So I thought the problem was fixed, but it's back today. I ran LogServer as above, and here is the error I'm getting:
56292011.10.28 16:14:35:651Closing connection to 87.237.38.200:26000: {'reasonCode': None, 'reason': u'The socket was closed', 'exception': error(10054, 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host'), 'reasonArgs': {}}
The client reboots after being connected for maybe 20-30 seconds
EDIT - After that attempt, I tried closing the client, starting the LogServer again, launching the client, and logging on to a different account. I immediately get a popup window "The socket was closed". LogServer shows the same error as above |
