Hello all, I've been Googling how to get from lvl 1 to lvl 2 missions, and I'm more confused than ever now. I know they say no standing can be worse than -2.0, but does that mean with any faction, or just the one you're trying to get quests from?
I'm a new character that was born (by mistake), a Gallente, and now I want to run lvl 2 Caldari missions for the Caldari Navy. My Caldari Navy standing is up to a .42, but my Caldari State rep is a -1.6. I would think running missions for Caldari's navy would make their government like me??? So any ideas on how to get rep up to run Caldari Navy lvl 2 security missions?
PS- sorry for the typo in the thread title. Too little sleep last night. :P |

You need a standing of 1 for level 2 missions. |

Buying and training the social skills, specifically Social and Connections, will speed the process up. I imagine that Connections I or II would give you enough standing immediately to run the missions you want. Social increases the faction gains you receive for each mission as well. |

In general, "missions" would be the term used in EVE.
Anyway, corporations are part of factions, and agents are part of corporations. The Caldari State faction includes the Caldari Navy. Individual agents are also part of corporations.
Your highest relevant standing is used to determine your eligibility. Once you get your Caldari Navy standing to 1, you'll be able to run level 2 missions ofr them regardless of your Caldari State standing. Faction standing increases only via storyline missions; every 16 regular missions you get an evemail which will give you access to one.
The "No Standing can be lower than -2" thing was a relic of the past I think. Everyone will always have access to at least level 1 missions for every corporation
Standing with other factions has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to run missions for Caldari State. |

Thanks for the great information everyone!
Kahega, this is still a new game for me and 4 out of 5 times in my thread I used the correct word...good enough for government work. |

Kahega was trying to be nice and save you from some grief later. If you ever accidentally say "quest" in EVE, people tell you to go back to WoW. Or they may think you're a scammer pretending to be a new player. Welcome to EVE! |

I appreciate the head's up and thanks for the welcome.
I knew what he was getting at, and yeah, I did play WoW for 8 or 9 years, along with CoD, MW, Skyrim, and a host of other games. It takes a lot to hurt my feelings but I know he meant well. |

Since you played WoW for so long I'm going to give a further bit of advice general advice which may or may not be necessary:
The fact that EVE shares the "MMORPG" genre with WoW does not mean that it shares much in common with it at all. You can be scammed, blown up, or have a host of other bad thingsGäó happen which will involve you losing stuff. In fact, not only can this happen, it will happen multiple times. EVE is at its core a much more adversarial and PVP-oriented game than most other MMOs (The definition of PVP not being limited to ship to ship combat).
Stepping off my soapbox, I only say this because there are tons of people who start playing EVE and get confused/angry upon learning that EVE is in fact nothing like WoW or any of the other billion games that copied it. |

That's one of the things that drew me to EVE. I want a game with big boy and girl rules. I've always believed in "free PVP", where you can attack anyone, anytime, anywhere (and suffer the consequences). That was what made America's Army so fun as a FPS...when you died, you stayed dead. No respawning. People were a lot more careful. I saw Star Wars when it first came out in the theater in 1977 if that gives you an idea how long I've been around. lol I want a game with consequences.

If I learned anything from the forums, it's to never say the word "guild."
It's a bigger offense than "quest," apparently. |

I didn't read all the replies so I hope I'm not repeating info but...
Agent standings are different from corp standings which are different from faction standings. The only way to augment your faction (eg caldari) standings with missions are through storyline missions, tutorial missions, the SOE arc, or COSMOS.
Check out the standings repair plan for more info on boosting your faction standings |

PS- sorry for the typo in the thread title. Too little sleep last night. :P If you do missions for a NPC corp, you will gain standing with that corp for every mission.
When you complete 16 missions, the nearest storyline agent in the same faction will offer you a storyline mission of the same level as mission 16. These missions increase your standing with the same faction as the storyline agent.
Storyline missions can give a big amount of corp standing (example: I've had +24% for some missions), so if you are trying to increase corp standing, you are best to pick an agent for you 16th mission carefully. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=495652#post495652 http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1257633&page=1#9
The easiest way to increase negative standing is to train Diplomacy. For positive standing, train Connections.
Example:
Diplomacy 0: -1.6 Diplomacy 1: -1.14 Diplomacy 2: -0.67 Diplomacy 3: -0.21 Diplomacy 4: +0.26 Diplomacy 5: +0.72
Running the Sisters of EVE epic starter arc is a great way to gain a LARGE amount of faction standing with the faction of your choice, and with no penalty to the standing other factions. The arc can be repeated every 3 months.

You might want to change your character portrait background there, especially if you intend on RP. All four empires' backgrounds are available to you, and it does help make a statement. |
