what really gets my goat is that we had a fix for the lunatic behavour of drones by forming a gang of 1 with an offline character.
-so of course in ccp's infinite wisdom, they've made it so we can no longer gang with an offline character.
i'd like to know what the reasoning behind this stellar move was. -if any dev's are reading, how about reversing this
really ruined the one salvation i had when using drones.

(ps..unfortunatly one of the big todo's with the drone changes and manufacturing was to decrease lag, of which thus far in RMR, has been embarrassing failure.) --- |

Cool... another constructive whine about whining from you...
If we had things your way who knows whether things would get done in the order they should be? I'm sure if CCP didn't want people to express their opinions then they'd do something about it.
Constructively; I remember a suggestion, that seems to pop up now and then, to remove drone collision. Was that argued to be a bad idea? Might solve a problem or two.

Return and orbit and then scoop is the best option atm. But that still doesn't fix the fact that after the first engagement the drones will move on to the next target at their orbit speed which is considerably slower (and sometimes miracles happen and they actually engage at max speed). And what about when your target is MWDing away, the drones continue to chase at orbit speed....
Of course there are times when my light drones orbit the target at max speed, @3800km those missile towers never knew what hit them.
So it basicly goes like, "engage target", "return and orbit", "engage (new) target"... and recall back to orbit the drones that didn't start their MWD.

Yea this is realy annoying.
I have some specail smalls they chased a guy 120km nps in an inti & stayed with him but then started coming back so slow it would have teken 15-30mins to return.
CCP do seem very good at overlooking none showstopping bugs. _______________________________________

Quote: He's talking about a bug where drones fly reeeeeal slow towards you when you've given the "return and orbit/to dronebay" command. Or don't return at all. This happens with light drones as well.
You obviously haven't used drones much Mal
this is indeed a very VERY annoying bug, also when they do finally get back they refuse to enter my drone bay because they simply dont fly close enough to you, if you fly to them then *ploop* they are inside... bleh

All the stuff about drones bumping is brollocks. I had this problems with 1 single drone. also with drones MIILES away from each other. Also I ONLY get a problem the SECOND time I command the drones.. IF the drone has acquired a target by itself and I try to change the drones self target acquisition to my choise of target. For example... 5 drones launched and I command em to kill a BS. THey all go there at full speed. THEN after they kill it, 3 attacke another BS (A) and 2 the 3rd BS (B). If I command them to attack BS A, then the 2 that went off to attack B in the first place will slow boat it to BS A but the 3 already gone to attack A will get there fast. It happens every single time.
------Solution-------- I dont command my drones. I Rat hunt in 0.0 in a domi.. Go to belt, get aggro, launch drones, send to BS, and then go for a coffee and just leave em be.... 3-4 minutes later, all 3 BS's down. Rince repeat. ---------------------

hey man, slow moving drones I can live with, its the lag thats effecting evryone at the min, give the ccp guys a chance to sort that out first, then maybe we will see a return to dronebay command that doesent leave men behind lol

I fully understand. I had 5 Hornets in the air last weekend. Returning form target at 50km range (Had the high slot +20km range mod on).
Thought this is taking a while.. added them to overview. 23m/s they where doing. I shot them in the end so I could release some more closer to my ship.

There is a workaround for this already. If you're ganged, drones behave and MWD like they are supposed to.

doesn't work for me. my hammerhead IIs fly at 550m/s most of the time while im ganged. and they go and wonder off and attack structures and agro everything. also, previously stated. when you 'return to drone bay' they will fly back to your ship. and then get stuck more then 1500m away from your ship, then you have to fly to them. bah.
/signed ==> fix drones plz ill be flying a carrier soon, are fighters just as stupid? i don't want my 17mil isk fighters with armor as thick as a BC flying at orbit speed.

A better move I think would be to fix some bugs before adding so many more. The drone slow bug has been around alot longer than the new super lag.
p.s. sort ya buggy sig out man before adding more. _______________________________________

Personally, I blame lazy drone users.
To be successful with drones you have to be a tough master and maintain drone diciplince at all times. Any of my drones found copulating, slacking off or not obeying orders on their shifts, get instantly scooped to the cargo hold.
When back at base, I march all the drones down to the reprocessing plant and melt the naughty ones in front of the horrified eyes of the others.
You have to be cruel to be kind in this world and sometimes that means setting a clear example of what is acceptable behaviour and what is not.

Drones are beginning to bug me also.
I use drones.
I'm slowly getting more and more peeved at how, when im surrounded by dangerous targets, that once they destroyed their target they suddenly take off to attack a structure.
They used to automatically fly to the next threat and attack it. Instead they fly off to something 20km or so away.
:/
I dont see turret user's turrets randomly shooting at asteroids when the target has been destroyed.

Thats almost funny but 1 seriour flaw " get instantly scooped to the cargo hold " since this being the bug we mainly got an issue with, so what you mean to say is after you travel to get them drones back into ya cargo bay.
" They used to automatically fly to the next threat and attack it. Instead they fly off to something 20km or so away. "
hehe i had sorta forgot this 1 cos i aint done misisno in a wile but yes same time frame that bugs also been in & a real nightmare for big mission runner, since hitting a stuture tend to aggro the whole place & drones realy love them stuture.

LOL your sick! But seriously, theres no such thing as an instant scoop unless your drones are already orbiting. I also hate having to chase down a 'Naughty' drone over 40km away while I tell it repeatedly to return and orbit.

the bit that gets me instantly scooped to cargo hold, tell that to your ogre II's who are 40km away and gettin jiggy with it, sure they would be happy to dock right away

Edited by: Tombert on 13/01/2006 23:54:04 Not sure if this has been said or not, but here goes.
Bug are bugs, and I can live with them.
I use drones as my primary damage dealer and will start buying T2 Medium drones tomarrow.
I dont mind having to leave behind a few 20k isk drones, becuase of the return/orbit command, if a pirate warps into my npc'n system.
But I am about to drop a 200k isk a drone soon. I am not rich, but I am not poor, and 200k is still a decent amount of money for a new player.
I hope CCP can get this fixed soon, becuase it affects me just about every time I play. Good luck CCP

You people are all so silly. There are no bugs with drones. They work perfectly. Ogres never stick together. Return to dronebay is flawless. They only shoot what you tell them to. There are no speed issues with them. Drones are fine.

In all seriousness drones are so badly bugged that it kills the enjoyment of using them in combat. You wonder how hard it could possibly be to write some code instructing drones to head straight back to your ship, at full speed when told to do so???
They found all those hours to develop new types of drones etc and forgot to spend 5 minutes on making them work properly in the first place?
Drones was the biggest wow factor for me when starting this game and I was (and am) quite dissapointed to find that they don't work properly. I would LOVE for them to be sorted out... I really miss using my drone ships :(

I just get back to eve after seeing the content of the last big patch but as a drone user I am really ****ed o** by this bug (I just submitted a bug report on it), everytime I go out for a mission and have to leave the place to repair I loose at least a drone. Loosing drones when they are destroyed is normal but loosing them because this stupid drone was just standing behind me is so frustrating !!!!!!
I consider drones nearly useless in this state and really makes me me wonder (among other things) why I reactivated my account, that is sad since I really love this game, or what it could be

personally I don't have many probs with my drones. Yes they can be slow and stupid at times but since I mainly use them so the badguys have extra targets to nail besides me.. the little guys do their job. I make them out of scrap I pick up anyway. Doing missions like HUman Cattle I love my drones. Launch them before the agro starts and half the bad guys target my drones instead of me... keeps them busy while i pick them off, and sometimes the drones actually manage to kill something.

drones are fun.. if they work. You need a fair bit of frustration tolerance to work with them. I long for the day CCP gets them fixed, and know it will come.

The fix is like the old sig radius on structures bug. All they need to do is remove 1 block of code
Just remove the code that tells drones to insta-pick new target after finishing the current one. Its already implimented when you are in a gang, why not make it universal?
Or are the devs so busy with the new hardware they cant even allocate 10minutes to fix this extremly annoying bug?

I had great hope for bloodlines... But I cant be sure the drone problems have been solved as listed in the patch notes. It would seem as though drone velocity no longer displays in the overview so you can not be sure exactly what they are doing. One thing is for sure, they still dont know how to return to the drone bay. Anyone else notice the lack of a velocity reading for their drones? Nice duct tape manuever =P

Dunno, drones are working fine at my end. They MWD right back to the hanger when I tell them too, don't attack random stuff anymore.
The MWD shuts down now and then while they're chasing stuff but that's it.
