I am getting some corrupted icons in my inventory screens. The corruption appears on blueprints and other icons. It appears to be a problem with composition. When I delete my cache files and then scroll quickly, I can see the item icons momentarily on a black background only for them to replaced by the image corruption.
Screenshot of corrupted icons: http://goo.gl/FpfDOB
Deleting my cache does not solve the problem.
This is perhaps related to a similar issue occurring on the Mac: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=252845
OS: Ubuntu 12.04 Running 3.2.0-51-generic Graphics: Radeon HD 6670 CPU: Intel Core 4300 @ 1.8GHz Wine version: 1.4
Has anyone experienced this issue and fixed it? Is anyone running similar hardware with better software that resolves this issue? |

I cannot offer to solve your problem directly, but i would strongly recommend to upgrade wine. 1.4 is a bit outdated, you could add the ubuntu-wine ppa (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa) to upgrade to 1.6
Since there is no official answer as how to solve the problem on MAC in that thread you linked i dont know if its related. Stab in the dark... It could be a problem of you using Unity(?). Iirc some other folks in here had issues with composition.
I am running eve on a Xubuntu raring (13.04) machine (similar to your speccs), with nvidia graFX. I am using the proprietary Nvidia driver-blob. Never encountered that problem. |

Interestingly, I made this problem go away by downgrading my fglrx drivers. This happened because precise-updates tried to move me to version 12.104 from 9.000:
From /var/log/apt/history.log: Upgrade: fglrx-updates:amd64 (9.000-0ubuntu0.3, 12.104-0ubuntu0.0.1) Downgrade: fglrx-updates:amd64 (12.104-0ubuntu0.0.1, 8.960-0ubuntu1)
I had to downgrade since version 12.104 was not working well with my wine installation. Eve just started with a blank screen. $ wine --version wine-1.4 (Yes, I'm aware that my wine installation is out of date, but I don't have a lot of time or bandwidth to test a higher version at the moment)
When I downgraded back to version 8.960, I noticed that a few icons were working again. I then cleared my cache and restarted the client to find that my icons were now functional again. In all, I suspect that something has changed in the interaction of Eve, Wine, and the drivers that caused a regression. I speculate that there is some assumption that Eve may be making which is true on the older driver, but no longer true on the newer driver.
I suggest to those having problems to first attempt to upgrade wine and your video card drivers. If that does not resolve the problem, then downgrade the video driver first. I hope to try to see if newer versions of wine (1.7?) and fglrx (13?) might have resolved this issue. Good luck!

I seem to have the same issue, I haven't found a cure for the infliction quite yet.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but my Graphics Card seems to be "Unknown" and I haven't been arsed to open my box to see what it is yet. But, oddly enough, Eve runs well for me with my "Unknown" graphics driver/card.
If anyone can tell me how to solve this I.D. Error AND fix the corrupted icons issue? Big hugs all around. :D |

Not having this issue with icons.
My only recommendation is the usual one: remove eve, remove your .wine directories, reinstall wine, reinstall eve. |

That issue is FGLRX driver issue. Introduced in v 12.9 BETA If i remember correctly. Update drivers to latest (13.10 or so)
This is nothing to do with wine or anything else only AMD drivers so only an update or downgrade may help. On intel if you have black icons or texture issues its probably because of texture compression and you have not installed the libdxtn/s3tc compression libs. not only amd, intel drivers too - so i think its not a drivers problem libdxtn/s3tc libs installed some ships and BP icons on sisi just black boxes, some still corrupted as in odissey |

Have this on Intel IGP as well, Wine 1.7.6/Ubuntu 12.04. Seems like this persists across different drivers/Wine versions. |
