Another user mentioned that a recent client update increased the memory usage; so I'm wondering if 4gb is just not cutting it anymore in places of high traffic. I'm no computer whiz, so if those two issues are entirely unrelated...well, I'm still going to upgrade my RAM anyways, but that doesn't mean anyone else has to. My personal experience bears that out: my client became much more stable when I upgraded RAM for 4GB, which really is barely sufficient. I suspect that the Mac client still leaks memory, though I haven't yet tried running it under the watchful eye of a profiler.
That's good to hear, and if it's just a simple fix as getting more memory, fine. I'll happily make that investment.
Will update when the upgrades have arrived and I've had a few days to run. |

That is very good to hear, awesome indeed. I will wait for the news with great anticipation.
Update on #687.
I have installed Wine and everything else that was needed, including EVE. It was a combination of this - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=308083&find=unread (EVE on vanilla Wine on OSX, better than the official client (mostly)) Read all that is written and somehow combined it works.
Played EVE on max graphics for a few hours - done missions, ice mining, traveling, equipping and such and everything was perfect. Wine client runs much more smoothly and in 60 FPS. Overall - it feels like it should - solid, steady and ready to do what ever I want.
It is amazing. After almost 6 months I can enjoy EVE as I did before switching to Mac :D Super excited.

I've scoured the forums and elsewhere looking for a solution, but nothing seems to be working and I just want to hear from the dark that I'm not alone.
I'm new here, just picked it up when it was on sale from Steam recently. Haven't had any problems with the launcher or sound that I've been seeing; it's literally just the freezing bug (I write that like it's a minor thing).
Yup, I'm having the same problem, I don't recall this issue when I was playing back in late 2013 but now I get lots of crashes. Bordering on unplayable.
I'm a total non-techy and a bit of a mac knucklehead at that, I wonder if someone who has done it could tell me what the chances are that I could get this game running on wine in an hour or less without wanting to smash my computer? And if I did that would it fix the problem? |

No, it does not effect everyone. In fact it effects very few Mac users, which is why it has been so hard for CCP to track down. Too few cases! I have not had a hard freeze for well over a year. I do get smaller freezes that last a few seconds, but only when I run 3 clients at once and have not restarted my computer for about a week. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Im glad im not the only one with this issue. Ive searched for a while and i can confirm it happens randomly. even when im Idle looking at windows and whatnot...
Mac OS X 10.9.4 4GB DDR3 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz Nvidia Geforce 320m 256MB
It stumps me because i was playing the game fine untill i changed the graphical settings to low. When i first installed eve through steam the game launched and worked perfectly but of course all the settings were at the highest and the game would still run albeit with about 30 fps. Which was ok but by the 3rd day i decided to tune down the graphics a bit. Thats when my crashes started to happen.
I guess ill just bootcamp or try the wine version later...
Also, shouldn't the client be producing its own crash logs without having to drop in parameters and arguments to a debugger?

Anyone else having this problem?
also i tryed it in a cargo container and just in normal items hanger.. both crash the game the same way...
Are people who are getting freezes using UI scaling? I am not, and do not get the hard freeze. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

This problem seems to be completely random to me. The past few day's I've had no issues at all. However today I seem to be locking up after I login.
Login: Good Character Select: Good
However whenever I'm in a system or just sitting idle in a POS the system completely locks up.
System Stats: Machine: Mac Mini Proc: 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i5 Mem: 16gb OS: v10.9.4 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 512mb
Graphics are set as low as possible. Again... I've been playing the last few days with no problems... no all of a sudden I'm getting random freezes... I've also not updated anything lately. |

Same Problem here, freezes every day.
I turned off UI-Scaling, after someone pointed that out, but that didn't help.
My Setup:
iMac late 2013 16gb memory newest version of OSX (10.9.4)
Running mostly two clients, sometimes three in window mode. It is always only one client wich freezes. I am using optimized graphic settings.
It is really annoying, when the fight just starts over, and you stuck cause of a damn freeze. Already lost several Ships on that way.
Please help! |

The easiest way to observe this problem is to see it on a computer where it is happening. CCP Sledgehammer, if you do not have a computer at CCP that has this bug, maybe you need to go to one that does. If that means getting your passport in order and flying internationally, then do it. That effort may, in the long run, be less costly than anything else you could do. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

That solved at least the problems, when I am closing a client, but I still get random crashes. I have no bit torrent running, so this can't be the problem. |

Same here, left eve for three months, came back only to see this.
Seems to be a mouse pointer issue for me, though: it usually happens when the cursor wants to change its shape, but can't and results in it remaining the same while everything else becomes completely unresponsive to its movements. Expected Hyperion to fix this but it didn't. Had no such problems earlier this year.
Very disappointing, can't imagine moving to 0.0 with my client randomly freezing |

Step 1: Log into your toon Step 2: Hit escape and go to the CHAT tab Step 3: Under VOICE SETTINGS uncheck EVE VOICE ENABLED Step 4: $$$$$ Step 5: Play eve with no crashes
This is what worked for me. I was having hard client crashes every 20 min almost to where the game was unplayable. Did steps 1-5 and havnt crashed once in over a week. Good luck to all. 7o |

Travis' solution actually seems to work! No freezes today at all since disabling EVE Voice. Someone at CCP should look in to what's causing this...

Turning off eve voice has been reported before as helping. But some still get crashes even with it off. What seems to be a common thread in all crashes: Internet access by anything on your computer other than the basic client.
Torrents do it. Eve voice can do it. I have even seen opening up a browser lock up my client.\
Note that some of this activity may be invisible to you, and hard to turn off, like the OS looking for updates. But the take-away is: Cleaner your setup, and the lower the activity it does, lower a chance you will lock up. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

The only thing that helped me was switching from CIDER to WINE. Every now and then I log on with official EVE launcher via CIDER, jus to see if the newest release solved anything.
At the moment - nothing works better than WINE.

I am having the same issues as above. I am constantly freezing. What intrigues me is that the frozen client seems to continue to send out information. If i have my pilot on auto, and it freezes... i can leave it there and he continues about his merry way like i'm actually controlling him. If I am mining ice or something to that effect, everything continues as if the freeze never happened.
I have also experienced where my clients won't freeze but like once for an entire day, or just one will freeze over and over.... really odd and difficult to pin down behavior. but all through this thread I didn't see anyone mentioning that it seemed to keep in contact with the server, and the video seems to be the only thing frozen (at least for my freezes).
Most people probably don't notice because they instantly close the client... but I was curious a few times, and have actually left an orca boosting for an hour or so "crashed" because I didn't want to bother reloading the client, and it was perfectly safe at the time. |

What you are seeing IS the classic client freeze we have been having for last few years. Frame rate drops to zero, and the client becomes unresponsive, but your ship sails on. Other versions of the freeze have crept into this thread as the classic one seems to be somewhat reduced, and replaced by crashes, and hard freezes that lock up your entire computer.
The main thing you can do to reduce the number of these freezes: stop any other internet access by apps running on your computer by anything other than the client. This includes: Torrents (the single biggest issue). This alone may solve the issue for you. Eve voice. Any other voice app. Web browser. Anything else you have running that accesses the internet.
Edit: Also: add memory to your Mac. This may be a memory leak, or page fault issue. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Well, i have 32GB of memory, so I'm not thinking thats the problem...
I have also noticed that if I close down EVERY PROGRAM before launching eve, it seems to crash less. This is 24 hours with no notable freezes. AFTER eve was up, I was able to re-launch my chat applications and even my web browsers, and everything seems to be working great... but only if I open by stuff AFTER i open eve.
Not sure if that helps the devs figure it out or not, but I know when i'm troubleshooting a problem, the smallest pieces are appreciated. |

I have to do this with Mumble when playing other games: they crash on launch if it's already open, but if I open it after they launch they're OK.
I wonder if it has a similar, but less immediate, effect on EVE? Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |
