Lost a Ferox to this mission initially... and then came back with two friends in my Scorpion and promptly lost it too.
I had done the first part in my Ferox with not that much trouble. It was harder than I expected... but never got my shields below 50%
Warped into the third part and yeah... so a lot of NPCs.. but there were a lot in the first part too. BOY... was I wrong.
I got smart after that and came in my Harpy and bookmarked it and warped the hell out and came back a replacement Scorpion (better equipped to shield tank) and took them in groups of 4-6 at a time with Cruise Missiles and 2 heavy NOS.
Expensive lesson. |

Rough going... but I pulled it off in my Prophecy. Try and take down the support frigs first, you have a chance to actually move around. It is a bear, to be sure, there is no shame in warping out/in...

Did this today with corp mates.
Initially I went into the first part alone in my ferox, realised I'd forgotten my drones and went back to pick them up. When I went back again there were 30+ ships there. I managed to escape and called in help - notably a dominix set up to full explosive armour tank, without that we would have had no chance (cheers wolfy!).
The 3rd part was the most fun, so many minnies to blow up! I would imagine it wouldn't have been quite as fun without the tank though.

It's easy to solo it...
Part one is easy in a Raven. Part two, well a shuttle will do the trick. Part three takes a Manticore (or higly tanked BS) and some time.
Almost lost a Raven to part three first time I tried it.

I have only had this mission once, managed to solo it without warping out but only because i had:

I was boosting over 1100 shield every 4 seconds and at times i was struggling... damn glad i had those implants installed!!

I remember when the first multi-wave missions with warp scramblers came out and CCP ended up having to add a warning to the description. I got lucky that time and by sheer luck took the scrambler out first. Boy was there much weeping and nashing of teeth. I think that was over a year ago now :) -- (Battle hardened miner)

How are you losing BSs to this mission? I do the bookmark trick yes, but the support frigs still get on top of me, but they dont' last long under my dronage ownage.
I am facing Minmatar Navy/Thukker, so maybe for some reason they are easier but...the problems peeps are having with this mission baffle me.
Geddon w/ 7 Mega Beam Laser IIs w/ some tracking support and a Large Arm Reppy II and 100mn AB does the trick EVERY time

I'm seeing a recurring theme here...
People are being warp scrambled and can't get out when they get overwhelmed. Seems to me the answer is kind of simple.
I haven't lost a ship to this since I tried it the first time in my Caracal. I use a Ferox. With a warp core stabilizer.
Haven't lost it yet. 5/0

The first time I warped out on 20% structure on my Scorpion. Got a friend with a harpy to help and it was over.
The second time I did it solo. Armed with the knowledge that they do a lot of explosive I put 5 hardeners on the Scorp + shield booster + shield amp + shield extender.
Warped in, headed straight out and killed the C2 and C1 frigs. Turned around and wiped the floor with the rest of them. I activated the booster 1 time :)

I lost a Dominix on this one due to the shear lag of having 37 pirates right where you warp in. Froze me up solid for about a minute and then .. there was a pod.
Made a bookmark in my pod
Came back in my new dominix, this time from 100k 2X Large shield booste II, 3 Shield boost amps, and 6 heavy nos. this time they came like a chorus line as i nossed each one as he came in to support my Shield boosters.. while my drones killed them all
This is the Toughtest level 3 mission i have ever done

Barely got out in my Raven the first time in mission 3
Since then, though, I've done it 3 times, the last 2, I almost fell asleep waiting for the 2 extra waves to arrive.
I am beginning to think it is possible in a high skilled BC.
for Mission 3, as soon as yo warp in, being moving away at the spawn. DO NOT ATTACK ANYTHING RIGHT AWAY, AND KEEP DRONES IN BAY. As soon as your moving away, clear your targets and see find the supprt Frigs. From there, 2 options.
A. The support frigs are not aggro. Lead the spawn attacking you away. If you attack right away, you aggro everything, but with some distance, you can pick off that small spawn and have time to set up. I usually get to around 55 Km with Raven and heavy missiles. Then, you proceed to B.
B. Lock on and attack every support Frig first.. These are the webbers/scramblers, so with them out, your free to jump if needed. They MWD, so attacking them at range with missles can take them out quickly. Throw everything you have, drones and all at the support frigs, and when they are dead, try to take out as many targets as quickly as possible.

I had major problems when I first attempted this.(lost my Eagle).
I complained and threw teddy out of pram etc to no avail...then after thinking about it and calming down I decided to see what could be done about it.
After a bit of experimenting I came up with this . I warped in with a shuttle and sorted the bookies and then got set up for range and started picking them off like this
Now I have got used to it I only need to set one bookie up and with switching ammo types I can complete part 3 with out even taking any considerable damage.
From what was a royal pain of a mission it has become a walk in the park and seeing as it actually made me sit up and think about it for a change I find it is quite a good idea and there should be more like this to keep us all alert.
Just my opinion
Fly safe!

Well, I lost only a little Trasher on Agent lvl 2 verison . But that was only a second 2 lvl misson in all my 14 day career... Was so scared that almost returned back to 1 lvl boredom. But after another two or three "on the edge of death" missons from that agent my brain finaly came online with ideas for fit and tactics. Next time I accept "Technological Secrets" without much thought.
After all, such missions is very needed (in right proportions of course). Maybe costly, maybe too hard, but very productive on fun and aspiration side of a game. Who loves mindless grind, hm?

Been doing this in my Tempest with no probs so far. No BM trick used as yet. Although I have got 6 720mm tech II's on my Temp (better ROF/Tracking etc for hitting cruisers, also Med arty spec lvl4)and about 12k armour, assaults and drones for the frigs.
Haven't had this one for a while, think I have warped out to rep armour and regain cap.

It's more than possible in a Ferox. There are quite a few posts in the various threads about this mission from low-SP (I believe the lowest I've seen is about 1 mil) people who've completed it in a Ferox,
All my experiences have been with the Thukker/Republic Fleet version:
Myself, I do it in a Ferox and I've got 8.8 mil SP--depends on what you consider high SP, I suppose, but I don't consider 8.8 mil high at all. My missile skills are nothing to brag about, my gunnery skills are crap (I use tech 2 small lasers, but the rest are terrible), but I have maxxed cap and shield skills, very good nav skills and half-decent drone skills--these are the skills that are the most important for the way I approach the mission.
So long as you take out the webbers/scramblers as soon as they become a problem and/or get some distance (if the 100km warp in doesn't work or you didn't do the shuttle+BM thing), this mission is cake so long as your tank is semi-decent. Depending on how lucky you get, you won't really need to *tank* so much as be able to withstand a reasonable amount of damage.

I finished this mission in my caracal. Using that bookmark trick makes it really easy. Fitted a Prototype I sensor booster and 4 heavy missile launchers. I could lock at 90 km and also hit at that distance (i didn't know i could shoot that far ) Still had to warp away 2 times, but it was really easy I thought i had to kill them all, but i got mission completed when there were some 20 still around.

No level 3 should be so hard that a raven has to warp out and back in from a distance. the first time I did this i was in my raven and it was not setup to take high damage as this was a lvl 3 mission. i went in and was getting hit hard so i was forced to warp out, set my raven for tanking (hardeners FTW), and warped 100km from the BM I set when I first warped out. I then just killed all the cruisers and when the last cruiser died i got a message that i completed the mission. I did not waste my time with the ton of frigs still there.
This mission puts BMH, Spy Stash, and Silence the Informant to shame in terms of how difficult it is.

This mission IMO is overtly difficult. Just finished the level 2 version a while ago. Part 1 was somewhat difficult, but it wasn't out of what I would consider impossible in a cruiser.
Part 3, I cleared the initial agro no problem, but was getting slaughtered by the re-inforcement waves, I had to warp out after taking down 1-2 frigs. I ended up having to go and combat equip and insure my Prophecy so that I could equip guns with enough range and armour to take on the republic fleet stabbers without being destroyed.

The mission ends when the Stabbers go to dust (and perhaps some of the support frigs) - Don't have to clear the mess...
The bookmark tricks works (Im sure I invented it first )
People just have to adjust a little instead of complaining... I think CCP has started reinforcing tactics over tanking
Lv2 is definately doable alone without trouble in a Cruiser... 2-3 destroyers sounds like fun - Too bad you are forced to engage right in the middle untill the BM is placed...

I did this mission in a caracal. i did the bookmark trick (BMing a bit of the scenary and warpping to that at 100km).
Let me tell you 110km range is extremely useful on this mission.
TBH, i think its embrassing that seasoned battleship pilots can't do this mission. Prehaps you guys should try going back to a frigate and learn how to fly a ship.

Not worth all the messages. Quite a simple mission in deed, just takes time a bit more than normal.
What I used was a fast ishtar (wich wasn't even kitted fully, 43% PG 35% CPU).
Only thing to worry in that mission are the fleet stabbers. If you can tank them and go faster than 500m/s you win. If you can go ~800m/s, you don't need to tank.
Same deal as in any mission, warp in, hit AB, fly out of range, dictate battle. If you just stay on one spot and try to tank them all, then you deserve to lose a ship.

Afer a nasty little incident with the Shipyard Theft mission, i've learned to come and read the forums before attempting any new mission. So, I was well versed on what to expect and did a very minor modification to my raven.
I actually thought this was a really easy mission, honestly. I was all pumped up to be on the edge of my seat and was amazed how well I managed.
I have a very simple set up I use for Lev 3 kill missions. I am after corporation rankings for refine yields, so i could care less about a mission being fun or challenging, more of a drag than anything.
Normal set up, mostly named or T2. 3x assualt launchers, 3x hvy launchers, 2 hvy beams ( structures ) xl shield booster, 100mn ab, em, thrm, kin hardener. 2x bal control, 3x PDU 3x berserkers.
This set up is perfect for lev 3 missions. A bit slow if you want to collect cans, but i usually just do that while I am killing things anyhow.
For this mission, expecting the worse, i replaced the AB with a cap injector to help my tanking if needed, and the 2 hvy beams with 125mm rails.
I had the first wave killed before the second arrived. My missile skills are not that great either. This was with the minmatar/thukkar rats. |

I do the Level 3 version in my Ferox. I have just shy of 4.5 mill SP with 3.8 mill in learning and industry skills.
I lost my Moa on this mission (Level 3) and upgraded to a Ferox (helping out a friend). Since then, I have lost 2 other Ferox helping out a friend who died, so I end up warping in under full spawn.
If I do this mission alone, I warp in and complete it in my Ferox. If I do this mission with a friend and/or for a friend that is having issues with it, then I do the shuttle trick. I could usually manage to drop a bookmark and get out in my Ferox at full spawn but twice I was nailed. Since I have never had more than 30 mill to my name losing my Ferox is a very expensive to me. I would prefer not to have to exploit the shuttle trick but not enough to leave a friend stranded.
It is the hardest mission I have done in Eve, but to be honest, combat is pretty trivial in Eve compared to other MMORPHs. It can be done solo in a BC by a character with 800k SP in combat skills. That pretty much defines it as not difficult.
Eve has lots to offer, but the NPC level combat is really pretty trivial and not at all difficult to figure out and work around.

a corp mate and i did this @ lvl3 and found a little quick end to it...kill all the Cruisers only at snipe distance (the cruiser will soft lock around 130km, rest round say 110)...the second wave will pop when the last cruiser gets popped off from the intial wave...
The second wave should all soft lock those in area...kill these ships only. Once the second wave is popped then you can end the mission (test this by looking at journal as the ojective will show completed)...
Until they reduice the difficulty of the mission or up the reward this is what I'm doing

Just lost a Typhoon on lvl-3.
Reminds me of Ultima Online, when they created creatures that jumped a screen to you, paralyzed you, and killed in two or three blows. Great fun. Not.
Here the spawn agros, locks you down, and ganks in seconds. Not as if I have a choice when I warp into the middle of a spawn. Yep, I read the threads, where people have found tactics, or book marks to make it work. I don't mind making mistakes and getting blown up. Its just the combination of no control where I land. No control of agroing the entire spawn, and then being locked in place.
Don't want to sound too whiny. It would just be more entertaining to do more than cross my arms and watch, after hitting the "warp to" button.

Completed this mission several times without any problems in my Cerberus. Not bragging but people should be aware of one simple fact
Setting default warp range to 100km before you warp to the deadspace will help. Because there is no Acceleration Gate u warp to the beacon at 100k. Also stick to the group that has agro'd there are 2 groups initially. Saying that I dont stick to those rules cause I have no prob tanking them, Cap Boosters ftw.

Lost a Ferox to this mission, lvl 3, part 3 of 3. Was doing really well but eventually got caught by the Frigs and warp scrambled. Wasn't running any WCS on lows, so just watched as my tank eventually gave out lol.
Gonna refuse this mission until I get my skills up a bit. Currently have 1.5 mil skill.

As mentioned above, if you just set default warp range to 100Km you don't land in the middle of them.... set up a real FAST frig or cruiser and take a friend with a raven or other cruise missile spammer with you, drag the aggro along and let him wipe the floor with them, simple as that Like stealing candy from a baby :)

I don't think my response sounds anything like anyone elses BUT I started playing 3 days ago and I was tired of the lvl 1 mindless missle bonanza, so I thought I would try some lvl 2 missions. I started doing these and they were hard and more than enough to keep my intrest. Happy days!
For my 3rd lvl 2 mission, I was given tech secrets... I warp in and start pounding on the closest frigate while sliding away... these are a bit faster than lvl 1 rats, so I figure, I got 1 almost dead, I can't take the other 3 and the rest are bearing down on me... I'll just scram, come back, finish em off 1 at a time. warp out warp in... now they are 6 all ontop of me... warp out... QUICKLY!!1! half way through my warp, I'm in my pod... :( I thought it must be a bug... Where did my ship go? I had some nice lunchers on that sucker too... I was told these thing happen, good thing I had some insurance. OK, got my second Merlin (wasn't as good a deal as the first, but I need to beat this mission fast to get my bonus)... I'll get it done this time... 750k in launchers, boosters, and shield nonsence.. Took me 45 minutes to round up, but now I'm set to pwn this mission! Warp in, no less than 20 on me instantly... 45 seconds was I think the amount of time I lasted. At least they don't shoot your pod. So I get my 3rd Merlin and I am not broke... a little past broke actually. So now I enlist some help. I told her several times it was going to be hard, I don't think she belived me... like real hard... she comes in a BS... warps in and "holy crap" "warp out" Aparently they spawn too... So during my 4 hour break we are now up to 25+ all at the warp in. She rounded up some parts from near by systems, came back and spanked em. For Tech 3, I enlisted the help of another very nice person to finish it, learned to bookmark way outside and fly back in... not to put 1mill in guns on a ship you got on sale for 185k and that Tech secrets is a tough mission that I should not be attempting in a Merlin. Happy days!

Edited by: PCX339 on 06/01/2006 16:55:14 Edited by: PCX339 on 06/01/2006 16:53:47 ========================== Give away the ending first: You need speed and long range to do this mission, close-up folks should turn it down ==========================
Add me to this list. Last night I took my Dominix and 2 corp mates in support cruisers into the mission. I had read the boards and heard this mission was crazy/stupid hard so I didn't even try it without corp support. Mind you: my tank is good enough that on part 1 the whole spawn never really made a noticeable mark in my armor.
Part 3 is a whole different story.
Our lives may have been made harder by the fact that when I warped in the whole spawn was instantly aggroed. My friends were warping in on short delay(because I didn't want them to be the targets).
==== You have to warp in from the right direction to prevent full swarm aggro, otherwise you decelerate from warp right through them and they ALL wake up. This makes the shuttle-bookmark-come back later trick many people have mentioned largely mandatory. =====
I didn't do the shuttle trick because it seemed like genre-breaking cheating. Ooops. You have to cheat on this one. Once we were in things seemed like they might be okay for a while, we had brought a LOT of firepower and cross support and I was tanking very well. Eventually it became clear we had to escape and we tried to warp out. I had read the boards so I had a warp stabilizer and did not suffer from jamming, but the missile spam was horrendous and slowed things down. In the end my graphics showed me warping away but my corp mates reported through teamspeak that they saw my ship explode. Moments later I was in a pod. We got about 20 of the ships in the initial spawn before that loss, but that leaves a lot of them.
We eventually finished it by bookmarking and warping in at 100km range, which let my missile using buddies do lots of damage without taking much themselves, although it left nothing for a Dominix to do.
Lesson: use long range ships and the bookmark cheat. If your ship is a close range fighter, turn down the mission - sorry.

This mission isn't that hard. I just warp in with my crow, hit the MWD right aways to get 100km away... and bookmark location. I then figure out which station is needed to be at to warp to my bookmark without being overly close to the mission spawn. Once that is done I grab my scorp, jump in, and take them out group by group. :)
Highs = 4 x X-3200 heavies, 1 domination nos (25km), tractor beam.
Meds = 3 x Invul Field T2, Lif afts, XL shield boost T2, 2 x shield amps, Cap recharge T2.
Low = 3 x PDU T2, 1 x wcs
