Same issue with the black screen here. I put in a bug report and a ticket two days ago and no response. In fact, I can't even see my tickets under "my tickets", so I guess they are swamped? If you look at the Feb. 4th patch notes it indicates an NVIDIA "fix" in that patch release. My error logs indicate an issue with my graphics and I would guess that most of us with this black-screen issue are running on NVIDIA graphics.
MacBook Pro Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Wish I could get some acknowledgement that the issue is being worked on.
The predominant error that pops up in the log during the black-screen-fun-time is:
2/5/14 8:16:28.000 PM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error

Same issue here...blackscreen on logon, can still use the cursor to select characters but subsequent screens are derez/pixelated well beyond any chance of playability. The one time in ten it loads to a playable game, the game plays just fine.

Graphics settings are at the lowest possible options. I realize the 9400M is below minspec, but fact is the game was working with perfectly with zero issues prior to the 4FEB patch...which was unfortunately two days after I purchased the game off Steam. I was completely unaware of the B-R event, purchasing the game when I saw it on sale on Steam...but it's no secret (Kotaku) that subs picked up a TON of momentum in the aftermath. It'd be a real shame to see all that momentum come to a screeching halt over silly technical issues. |

Except on 1 of 3 accounts since the patch on Tuesday I m black screened at char selection. One account seems to be ok for some reason. If I select the place where char should be it goes into game, Copies on mumble comms see me in local or corp chat but I have either a crazy pixilated and frozen screen or a black screen. Have run the Disk Utility to verify and repair permissions to no avail. Could you try running without Mumble? Does that make any difference?

Thanks! Sorry I just to look at this thread again. I just started it up without using the mumble overlay and then changed it. I was only having a problem when the overlay was up. |

With or without mumble same issue. Black screen, but for some reason I got into game this evening. Black screen at login, but ghost clicked and it let me in. Mumble was open and running in the background at the time. The game ran without glitch. I logged out and tried again with mumble closed, and it had cleared my usernames went to blackscreen and ghostclicking got me in. This was all after DT on Sunday. Don't know if it will let me in tomorrow hopefully will. (Eve Voice off, immediate interval and OpenGL unchecked btw)

still having screen-o-death
Update, still having the same issues. Not using mumble here. Had a bit of time to mess around with it this evening:
Started through the launcher, saw the few loading bars populating from left to right and eventually got to the black screen with the music playing. Started clicking around where the characters should be (while there was a great pause after each click, I was able to move the mouse around and click with enough time). Eventually heard the woman say loading, or logging in (or whatever she says, this was almost 25 minutes ago once I did the rest of this and got my computer reset). SO I had successfully selected a character! Woohoo.
Once it had loaded for a bit, still on an all black screen I moved the mouse over to the left where the buttons would normally be. After a significant amount of loading, the mouse changed to the mouse with small downward arrows next to it (as happens in game when you hover over a button or actionable item).
So it seems that everything is there (with tremendously increased load times) we just can't see any of it. |

I've been able to log in through this exact same procedure. However, it has only been successful one time so far. I also observed normal operations for my settings once logged in, much as you indicated. |

Yes, I can confirm that.
Also, it seems that all the OS and other applications are basically frozen because there's not enough resources for them. Sometimes when I just wait long enough, ctrl+command+esc will still open the force quit dialogue window. But I never managed to kill the client through that, although I waited some 10ish minutes to see if the click on force quit actually accomplishes something. |

I just tried it again, and still Black screen o' death.
But atleast yesterday I could (in about a period of 10 minutes) open the force quit window and finally force quit eve, so I didn't have to restart my laptop.
Today when i tried to do the same the window which comes down when clicking on the apple symbol in the upper left corner a black window appeared, so I couldn't do anything but restart.
It really gets frustrating not being able to play and I really would appreciate a response from the devs, if they are maiking any progress.

We have not had any luck in reproing this, but we have a patch going out tomorrow where we have at least an attempted fix.
I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something.

Find someone close to you who has the issue and pay them a visit. That might take less time and money that you are spending on the issue now. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

We're trying some new things - this may boil down to a combination of specific hardware and screen resolution, possibly some more factors.

I'm hoping to get the build out on a test server today so we can at least see if the code change helps - check back later for details.
