Hi,
I have a dual TFT system, and run the eve client in windowed mode on the monitor set as primary. This works fine.
The problem is that whenever I attempt to put the eve client on the secondary monitor, even if its just overlapping slightly the whole machine starts stuttering. It seems that the secondary monitor isn't 3D accelerated. I would really like to get an eve client into both screens, as I've recently purchased a second account.
My card is a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and I run 2 x TFT screens at 1280x1024 in extended desktop mode.
Does anyone else run eve in both screens on their dual monitor PC? If so what is your graphics card? and your settings?

the second screen is not 3d accelerated. you can run the client across the two monitors by using the stretch function. as soon as you run windowed mode, only the primary will be accelerated.

Vasily,
I have exactly the same system as you, same card and same problem.
The only way to run two clients effectively is to use it on one monitor. However, even with EVE running on the primary monitor, once the second monitor is enabled everything just hangs. I guess it isn't the 3D problem, guess it's just too much for the card to handle.
Would appreciate anyone running two clients on seperate monitors to tell me what card they are using please!

Edited by: Copine Callmeknau on 29/12/2005 13:32:23 I'm using a 9600 pro. I run EVE windowed on my TFT screen, do comp stuff on my other screen.
If you overlap it will stutter because it's not being 3D accelerated However, if you use ATI's CCC you should be able to switch your display into "Span", the card will see two screens as one extra wide screen, and succesfully 3D accelerate both screens allowing you to play EVE in wonderous dual sreen glory.
Oh one more thing, your ship and UI control panel will be split down the middle where one screen ends and the other begins.

i run a firegl x3...same thing. i just make sure they dont touch or overlap into the other monitor. running 2 instances at 1280x1024..i get a little edge off the left menu, and a little edge chop on the station services..
its an ATI issue. with a geforce 4 card i could run 2 srcreens over top of one another or even split down the middle between monitors with no troubles.

Edited by: Ms Isk on 05/01/2006 11:13:53 there are several ways to keep multiple monitors running
you are most likely using 'dual view' , and that is not the option you should be using.
switch to horizontal span and try it again :P
note: atleast works on my system

To run 2 accounts i find using my radeo 9550 (not OC'ed), reduce teh graphics quite a bit. As well there is a drop down menu under graphics choosing what moniter this ever clint will be on. There should be 2options primary and secondary switch one to secondary and put it on you secondary moniter. Should work now.

Problem with horizontal span and dual monitor is the ship is cut by the monitor edges... horizontal span on triple monitor though is sweet as.

Edited by: Vala Draaken on 05/01/2006 16:03:09 Edited by: Vala Draaken on 05/01/2006 16:00:28 It is possible to have two clients running, with acceleration on both monitors, in windowed mode. But you need to do a few easy things to make it work. Your graphics driver should NOT be set to spanning, stretching or cloning.
1. Open the EVE\cache\prefs.ini file add or modify this line: advancedDevice=1 2. Have seperate directories for each client. Just make a copy if you don't have this already. 3. Open the client you want on the second monitor. Login and press ESC to get the Options menu and go to the Graphics tab. 4. A new option (enabled by step 1) is now available to select which Graphicscard/Monitor it should be accelerated on. Select the second one and close the Options. Keep resolutions same or lower than the respective monitors. 5. Now it will be really slow on the primary monitor. Move the client to the second monitor and it should go back in to accelerated mode.
6. Optional. In the options menu you can set the Interval option (also enabled by step 1) to Interval One on both clients. This will enable VSync (if graphics driver is set to Application preference) and lower the framerate and cpu usage slightly on the active client, but will let the inactive client have slightly higher framerate. You'll notice this when switching between the client windows.
I run 2 clients like that, although it's on a Geforce 6800LE. It works fine with one client at 1600x1200 and the other at 1280x1024.
Hope it works for you too,
Vala D.

Hi, I am running two client of eve on a dual tft 19", each client on a separate screen. Got a Gforce 6600 GT Pcie configured in dualview mode and both client works fine. As everybody gotta have a problem, mine has been posted in another topic http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=271623 At unregular intervals, my computer reboots when I have those two clients running. Seems either to come from a lack of power from the card (as per some post) or a still WTF issue. Gets very boring in a middle of a complex when your pc reboots.

Edited by: Tytor on 06/01/2006 08:55:26 Hi Vasily,
I have an older Radeon card, and I run on 2 monitors without any problems. All I had to do to make it work was this: In the game options screen, make sure you have selected the display adapter *secondary* under your graphics card option for the account you want to have running on your secondary monitor. If that secondary is not selected, the same things happen to me...no graphics acceleration.

it seems that some bugs occure with nvidia 81.98 forceware driver (i got a 6600gt agp) if you run 2 windowed eve clients on the same computer. kind of memory overload. set 16bit textures, for the 2 clients, and the game wont freeze.
i say that if somebody got the same problem than i a had. <- download it, rename it for eve.ico & use it for your EvE R.M.R. desktop icon ;) |

Alot of ATI card use SOFTWARE acceleration for the second output. Nvidia uses HARDWARE acceleration. This will more than likely be your problem.

i'm running an ATI X800 XT card and got my new monitor yesterday...
needless to say in the so called 'extended' mode i could only run 1 eve client on the 'primary' monitor and as soon as i even touched the secondary my system froze to a crawl. although setting the client to 2560*1024 resolution worked perfectly, damn eve never looked so good apart from the annoying gap between the monitors)
tried to set it to 'streched' mode (my desktop is now 2560*1024) and can now smoothly run a client on each monitor. guess i'll stick with this for now.
what i wanted to knowis: is there a graphics card that really supports dual monitor or is it a sofware related problem (EvE or drivers or whatever)? _________________________________ just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean i'm not following!

Wish I could find the thread now, but there's a long one from last year on this issue. To paraphrase, the solution was to go into the settings file and edit one to me desktop=0 (main monitor) and the other to be desktop=1 (secondary). This is on top of selecting the appropriate monitor and settings in the Eve client itself. I was able to get this to work prior to one of the patches last spring, but not since then.
It's not your card or the ATI drivers, it's Eve and its graphics core. |

I have a Fx 5200 ($12.99) from Newegg and I run 2-3 clients on two screens.
I tried a ATI 6000 and it was junk with EVE so I switched back to my ghetto card. My main screen gets 30-40fps and my second gets 17-25fps. Never a problem.
Today I'm gonna upgrade to another GreoForce card since they seem to be the best for running 2 or more clients.
If anyone has suggestions of a card that works for them... please let me know!

That's what card I have and I can say with all certainty that it works. All you have to do is ensure that both clients have seperate monitors set in their settings. On my card my main client says (from memory, I'm at work atm) something like 'Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition', and the second one has been changed to 'Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition (Secondary)'. This way both clients are accelerated on their own screen, but lag like a mofo when on the wrong one. The second client always open up on the primary screen, but the lag's not so bad as to to stop you dragging it to the right one. If anyone knows a way to make it remember the proper monitor and screen position to open on, let me know.
With that setup correctly I have no problems running them both concurrently, as long as neither window overlaps the other, then it just turns into a slideshow on both clients.
I have my main client running at 1920x1200 (the lcd's native res) and the 2nd client running at 1280x1024 on the crt. ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! On the advice of my legal counsel I can neither confirm nor deny these allegations.
