Hello fellow capuleers
Suicide ganking has been a profession taking up by EVE's underworld for years and years and the question I wish to ask you (even though I can foresee the flaming) is why are they hated so much? There are many things one can do to avoid being suicide ganked in EVE and as a person who has been suicide ganked twice because of my own laziness (because you know the best thing to transport a 500mill blueprint is a bestower with only cargo expanders and 50% armor) yet I was not mad at the situation I learned and I adapted.
I recently started suicide ganking haulers myself and what I find most strange is that I get the most hate not from the gankee but the surrounding people in local some of the people I have ganked have even convo'd me and we have had quite decent talks (one guy I was speaking to wanted to learn how to suicide gank himself and after speaking with him for an hour I contracted his loot back!) is it because of 'organisations' such as the new order (of which I very much enjoy reading minerbumping.com james 315's arrogance highly amuses me) or maybe it is because of the likes of burn jita and hulkageddon.
I notice a lot of people have a false sense of security in high security space and maybe this is the problem but just because some is named high security why should you feel safe?? I would not carry everything in my bank on me walking around a high security prison so why would I do it in EVE?
Lots of love
Your friendly neighborhood ganker :)

I think a lot of it has to do with loss. mostly they can't believe they lost their ship and in high sec too, but this is not the gankers fault. you didn't make them go afk or bot. To all my fellow miners who might read this thread ccp gave you a great tool to help prevent loss tactical overlay use it. you can see them coming from 200km out. |

I always thought it was about effort, since ganking takes about as much effort and less time than mining. And just think of how much people hate on miners.

I was told yesterday by a certain miner after blowing up his Mackinaw in local "F^%$ You." I promptly covo'd him and said hi! He proceeded to ask me if I feel like a "big man" and I replied I feel very happy ^_^
He said "F" off again called me a Fa^%*t and closed convo. I quickly put a 10 million isk bounty on him to fuel the flames on a 5.0 status character. The kicker? He'd been mining since 2007...
I love ganking for reactions like this especially from older players. They are incredulous and oblivious even if they played Eve for years they are still easily killed despite them knowing enough.

We are a community that strives on tears and people yell at my scanner in local and call me all sorts under the sun for having the cheek or the balls to scan them (some guy even put a 100 000 isk bounty on my scanner and said he would war dec me lol) and people wonder why I do not use a passive targeter? Because I get a response like that lol

I'd still have trouble believing people do this if it weren't for the chat logs. I didn't even know someone could be that sore about losing ships until I had a CEO (or two) rage on me for getting ittys and viators blown up like it's going out of style.

There are many types of suicide gankers out there some do it because they some like the order do it more for roleplay and some like me do it for profit (and sometimes fun) I have toons that are -10 and live in low-sec and dabbled in WH space and only time they ever pop in to high sec to say high is 'down time' with friends to gank a miner or two but this toon does not gank purely for amusement it stays away from miners and goes purely for haulers.

I wouldn't say I hate suicide gankers... I love the squealing when they explode.
For me, they are a source of entertainment. I have NEVER found a group in EVE that will give me the same level of wonderful tears that a ganker will if you push him hard enough. Some of them really dont like being the victims of non-consensual PvP. Who knew.
Only thing I really hate about them is they tend to keep their mains secret to avoid any possible repercussions down the line... but heh, who cares. |

I have played EVE alongside carebears, gankers, mercenaries, scammers and pirates at various times.
Of all of those groups, only scammers are more likely to laugh off a big loss than gankers are. Carebears and mercenaries both fountain tears, pirates generally don't but sometimes do.
Of course, we gankers tend to be fairly hard to catch in expensive ships. I've not lost anything more valuable than an Ishtar or Hyperion, and those losses both ended with me saying 'gf'. I dont mind non-consensual pvp hey my victi...err customers are forced to face my wrath I will not accept duels with my nado though even though some drake pilot seemed really up for fighting me... do these people not know we are cost efficient and rarely carry more then 1 round per gun???
I have people ***** on my mails pod me because you know gankers think they are invincible and anything is a win :) I have had pilots scan me and my partner down and with 2 rounds between us lose the isk war trollolol and why is everyone obsessed with mains? What counts as a main anyway? because I spent the majority of my time on my gank toon so surly that is my main even though it is not as old as my other toons.
EVE is a harsh world and there will be no tears from me after all as much as we come attached to our ships assets toons and implants it is after all just a game. |

I personally don't have an issue with suicide ganking, as long as the ganker remains civil. There's nothing I find more annoying than a ganker who uses behaviour that I generally associate with preteen Call of Duty players.
While I myself am no longer a ganker, I can respect the fact that others find this way of life an enjoyable one, as I did as well when I was younger. I've already suffered a couple of gankings on my new character for not paying attention while mining, and I was able to have a long and thoroughly amusing conversation with one of the brigands who got me.
I do however draw the line at pod-killing. Recently I found myself mining in a very rich asteroid belt in Caldari space. Now, prior to entering the asteroid belt I had no prior knowledge of Goonswarm's 'Mining Protection Program' or even where their mining rights areas were located. So you can imagine my surprise when a random ship drops out of warp on top of me and turns my ship to scrap.
I didn't even get so much as a warning. Something along the lines of 'You are currently in an Asteroid field under the jurisdiction of Goonswarm. Those without a valid mining permit are not allowed to mine here. Leave now or your ship will be destroyed.' Hell, he could've even given me the option of buying into the program. I would've at least considered the blasted thing. Not that it matters really, its done.
Now, I can deal with having my ship destroyed. It happens, and I can just move on. But what is it people get out of pod killing? It doesn't gain you anything, and its really just an annoyance in the long run, but I just can't see why someone would do it. |

Well what is defined by 'real PVP' because at its core it is just one player vs another player and many people who say well come to low/null and do some real PVP just means hey come to me and I will blob you 10-1 or whack you with ti-di where you have time to eat a three course meal between shots. If that is real PVP they can keep it

I agree that some gankers out there are A-holes as are some miners and are some pirates as are some mission runners and I could be here all day writing 'communities' in game where there are A-holes, I don't usually speak to my customers but I do like to uphold some kind of service and my reaction can swing both ways if I gank someone and they open a convo I will always accept it and see what they have to say some cry and swear and to which I milk harvest and jar up their tears for future smelling, but some guys I kill are decent people and we chat for a while and some even add me as contacts.
As with podding the only reason I don't pod is to maximize my profits if I am podding everyone I would be out of high-sec faster then I could say but I have tags!! |
