I have been playing EVE on and off for a month or so now. I enjoy manufacturing and selling, buying and selling. I have done the tutorial missions and started on the SOE missions but get distracted by my money making ventures! I do aspire to also get into some serious ship to ship combat.
I was wondering when it would be a good time to join a corporation. I am a rookie and am really enjoying the game, should I wait till I have built up a stronger pilot? |

The best time to join a corporation is when you are still young and don't have too much stuff for them to gank you for before kicking you out of the corp.

Some corps are quite newbie-friendly. Look around. There are no goons. The goons' 0.0 dream is over.

You're ready to join a corporation as soon as you decide that you want to join a corporation.
Word of advice though, you might want to steer clear of the General Discussion forums for the time being if you are looking for advice, thanks to the ongoing TOS debacle. |

You can join a player corp whenever you like. If iit doesn't work out, you can leave at anytime.
I suggest joining one of the many player run corps that identify as being part of an NPC alliance, such as Mordus Angels, as they have a bright future. This is the rule:-á In Eve it's always a trick. If you don't think it's a trick, you just don't have enough experience to know what the trick is. That doesn't mean you shouldn't launch on that fool anyway and roll the dice. |

Don't worry about it. Have fun in EVE There are no goons. The goons' 0.0 dream is over.

You can join a corp whenever you feel ready to do so. Some corps will have a skill requirement but many will let that slide if you show a good attitude. Some might also tell you that as a new player your "useless", but this is far from the truth and many corporations would be more then wiling to take you in and appreciate your contribution to the corp.
I would also suggest that you take some time and read over this guide which contains advice from new players, vets, recruiters and CEO's on what to look for and avoid when looking into joining a corp. Quoted for emphasis. Recruiters are people too. Join public channels and talk to everyone and anyone. It won't take long to get on good terms with someone important and when they see you are willing to learn and grow the skill requirements go out the window. EVE is WAY more fun when played with other people, so don't hesitate to look around. The worst that can happen is they say no and you move on.

Read Nightcrawler's suggested guide.
Aside from that, I'd suggest you check the corporation's war status, and the war status of any alliance that corporation belongs to. If you join a corporation that happens to be in the middle of a war with some other corp - you can be shot in high security space by members of the enemy corp without Concord showing up. |

I will emphasis this as well. Character skillpoints are always a distant second to player skill, and a willingness to learn is a large factor in determining your level of skill. One of the best and most ruthless PVPers I know has been playing EVE for about a third of the time that I have, thanks in large part from his willingness to learn the ropes from his corporation. If you display a good attitude and strong grasp of game mechanics, even some of the most elite corporations and/or alliances can become willing to take you under their wing. |

Best time to join the corp is NOW.
No other advice needed. It's not a lifetime membership of some sekrit cult in real life (mostly), so no need to be scared of it. |
