I recently saw a photo of this ship on a website. Says there was only one of the kind and it was destroyed. Anyone knows the story behind it? And why would there only be one?

It was the first prize at the Amarr event.
Rather than leave it collecting dust, Tyrrax Thorrk used to fly around in it and lost it in combat.

aha, sure looks cool though, would be nice if they actually make into a regular ship, but i guess they are saving it for future event's prize.

Nope. It will NEVER be released again, just like the Imperial versions of the BSes. They were one-shot ships that will be gone forever if all of them are destroyed. It adds a lot to the game that some things will never be seen again.

I'm sure there will be other unique ships, but the Golden Magnate will not return.

There are other unique ships, you can spot Entity flying around in his Federation megathron quite often.
I also noticed voogru posting in the forums again.. so there may still be a opux Yacht around the place.

Just wondering what the specs are on it. How many slots, PG, CPU, cargo space, speed, ect...

Or subtracts from it. If it's gone, it's gone and I will never be affected by it.
I like the idea of unique ships, but since so many players will eagerly destroy them if given half a chance, they seem kind of pointless. Nice trophies for your hangar, I guess. But if you use them, you lose them and if you don't use them, you may as well have lost them anyway.
Maybe a better prize would be an exclusive contract to purchase unique ships from a special agent. And to prevent them from being mass produced, there would be a limit on how many can exist in Eve at the same time...so if it's a unique ship, there can only be one in existence, along with a hefty pricetag on replacements.
It's just a thought, and I'm sure someone will tell me this would totally destroy the game.

It's default cargo is 1750, I had the lows full of overdrive injectors.
It's from the Quafe Event two or so years ago.

not totally destroy the game, but you are wrong.
it's better this way. it's a story, a legend. if it was still in the game, there would be no story, and it would exsist, not be a legend.

I guess it may be better to sell it off for 1 billion isk rather than watching it in your hanger and fly around empire space and hope someone will notice you. You know what they say, never fly something you can't afford to lose, guess it especially apply to unique ships. wonder what the stats on that ship is though...

IMHO it was unique, but they should release a bronze magnate as the 6th Amarr frigate.
Wouldn't be as uber as the original but it would still be neat.

theres still at least 6 confirmed silver magents still flying (well, probably dry docked becasue no one has the stones to undock in one anymore) Stressed out with empire politics?

Gold Merlin? Bah, we're too practical. If anything, we'd release the only Merlin ever to mount railguns in it's medslots and lowslots -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

I remember a PA/Xelas fleet destroying Homoerectus' Silver Magnate in V7 when Evol attempted to take the staton but failed.
This was before Xelas did their turncoat thing and went to the dark side.

I think it's a shame, but...
I guess it's better to see a unique thing being flown by a pod-pilot and blown up in a fight than the kind of thing a player can NEVER have, IE: the Lord British and Lord Blackthorn skins in UO.
Though, one guy on Europa does actually have one of those Brit skins. Looted it from the corpse of an Event GM who played Lord Brit earlier, then went into dragon mode and forgot to delete his Lord British skin.
Anyway, yeah. Gold and Silver Magnates... Hmmmmm.
Good question. The problem with them is that if they do get lost, they become nothing but a space legend, never to be heard from or seen again. Which means almost nobody will actually see them.
Maybe they should come back, but only one at a time? IE: There will only be One. It could show up anywhere, from a prize in a tourney to floating in deep space in a random sector, waiting for someone to slot his pod in.
Of course, you'd want to make sure it stays ingame, too. Make it a "use it or lose it anyway" proposition.

Thing is the Gold magnate and even the lost silver magnates have stories or even legends within EvE and have become a notable event in EvE's history.
I gotta respect the people who took these out into combat and put them at risk.

i was there that day when m0o managed to destroy tyrrax's magnate, im still amazed over that he dared to risk it like that. he had been playing around and challanged them whit it in gehi all day, later he followed them into a2-v2 (or if it was the other way around, cant remember) and if i rember right tyrrax got some kills before he eventually got to close and got webbed.
i was rushing to a2 to try and help out whit my domi, but got to late. i engaged m0o at the a2 gate and downed zap and negotiator before i went down myself. some of the loot from the magnate got destroyed there.

Civie Gatling Gun.

I think that's actually what makes them so great. We wouldn't be having conversations like this if there were a few more Magnates...same with the Impocs.
What makes Eve so great is the history of the playerbase...most people have heard of the Magnates, most people have heard of the Impocs. Very few people have seen them in person, but people are still always curious. ---------------------------------------------- Persona non grata |

Because it's a cruiser!
And the stats look realy odd because they were never updated since early beta.

I see. And the story in this case is basically:
Quote: It was the first prize at the Amarr event.
Rather than leave it collecting dust, Tyrrax Thorrk used to fly around in it and lost it in combat.
That's not much of a story or a legend. I'd be more impressed if there was a chance of actually encountering this legendary ship.
It seems like the real "prize" goes to whoever blows up the ship and removes it from the game. Whoopee. Another notch for the killboard.
I never expect to ever obtain any such prize, but I'd prefer they'd stay in the game so I could get a chance to say "oooooh, look at that" or "what the heck just blew me up?".
Oh well. Doesn't really matter much either way.
