I would appreciate some Catalyst advice from the experts. At the moment I'm using:
8x 125 Rails - Meta 4 - CN Antimatter 2x Web - Meta 3 2x Tracking Enhancer - Meta 4 1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer - Meta 4
Hybrid Burst Hybrid Collision
I've had some success and some failure. Any advice for me? I'm a new character so for now, no T2 please. |

Small Hybrid Collision Accelerator I Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I [empty rig slot]
Notes: - upgrade to meta equipment when you can. Make Tech 2 weaponry a priority as you'll gain more damage and more range flexibility. - the point of this fit is to keep things at range as much as possible (around 10+ kms will be your "sweet spot") and kill the enemy before running out of capacitor power. - webs will only slow a target down, it won't keep them from warping away.
Another fit would be...
[Catalyst, Newbie Setup 2] Magnetic Field Stabilizer I 200mm Reinforced Steel Plates I Damage Control I
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I Warp Scrambler I
Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Small Anti-Explosive Pump I Small Trimark Armor Pump I Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I
Notes: - upgrade to meta equipment when you can. Make Tech 2 weaponry a priority as you'll gain more damage and more range flexibility. - using this fit is pretty simple... rush in and nuke anything that doesn't escape in time. - the tirmark might be a bit on the expensive side for a genuine newbie... a so-so replacement might be a hybrid tracking rig. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

If your destroyer costs less than 10 million isk you are probably gimping it to far for the sake of cheapness.

Isn't a MWD a bad idea for a close-up fit, since a scram will break it? ~Weapons R&D technician, arms manufacturer, weapons dealer, wormhole project manager, nulsec fleet pilot, armored warfare command/mindlink specialist, thanatos pilot, alliance executor, now retired~

It shouldn't matter in a blaster cat. Once you land scram things die. |

All you have to do is gain enough speed before being scrammed to have the speed necessary to carry you into blaster range. And once you are in blaster range in a well-skilled and well-fit Catalyst, most things destroyer and frigate class die quickly.
Of course... if you are in Faction Warfare and fight primarily in complexes then an Afterburner is a good choice (as you'll effectively be right next to people that brawl when you warp in). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

A reply related to piloting.
Set your "keep at range" to 1,000,000 meters (1000KM) and use this to stay away from people in the rail setup. You want to avoid getting scrambled because alot of the time the opponent will then close on you and get under your guns. I use this and approach hitting them back and forth to keep my ship in proper gun and point range. Takes practice, be prepared to learn the hard way (pop) Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.-á Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!! |

I am a fun of the approach / keepatrange9999999999 alterations. You might or might not like this approach more if you try pushing the buttons well in advance. Pre-emptive to the point of precognition. Thats when this tactic really starts to shine. Then again perhaps you have done this allready in which case just disregard what I said. |

To get in range before you get blown up, better have the best speed to get in range, MWD is not mandatory but a good advice.
Catalyst dishes a huge amount of dps, imho a bit too much for the ship size but the lack of range to apply such dps deserves this trade off. Prob the AB fits are good but imho nothing gets close to the blast you have with a gank catalyst in null chasing much larger targets looking like this when they melt under your guns. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |
