Given http://themittani.com/news/new-ccp-moderated-channels-announced (a possibly one-sided article grouping a set of CCP Falcon quotes involving the creation of new RP channels because the current ones have been deemed discriminatory), some upheaval is to be expected...
Most worrysome (to me) is the final statement of the article: "In addition, CCP Falcon did say that live events, like the Battle for Caldari Prime, are on an indefinite hiatus." Is CCP consigning the EVE NPC factions to an unchanging future? Is this yet another disincentive to high-sec life, because nothing ever changes there, and nothing you do there will ever matter to the big picture?
Can we get some sort of official statement about what's going on? |

Sounds like a good way to simplify the communication process with the players during live events. There has always been a need for IC communication to appear some where else other then in local chat during live events like in a new IC UI tab for example.
It also might be that the tools the live events team has been asking for, to do things right, are finally getting programed in for the winter release and doing things before then would just complicate things.
The loss of dev interaction in game is sad however if proved true. |

If Live Events are on "indefinite hiatus", then why create new channels to facilitate them now?

Oh, would you look at that:
Quote:CCP Falcon GÇó 2 hours ago GêÆ "In addition, CCP Falcon did say that live events, like the Battle for Caldari Prime, are on an indefinite hiatus."
I think there's certainly a misunderstanding, and misinformation here. I happened to casually mention that events on the scale of Caldari Prime are not in the works at present, however that we are continuing work on live events as a whole, and are currently in planning stages for the future.
It may be a good idea to contact us for clarification regarding statements like this in future :) Mr. Science & Trade Institute, EVE Online Lorebook-á |

Good to know, but perhaps CCP Falcon could state that over here, on CCP's own forums (where we can actually verify his identity), in a thread attempting to do the very thing he was asking for over there (asking for clarification)...
Also, these new channels could do with an announcing as well (in this thread, in a sticky thread, in a devblog). I suppose the article on TheMittani.com outed news that CCP wasn't ready to release yet. |

I really dislike that it's now common for companies to use social media sites to communicate with their customers rather than their own official websites. Using social media as a supplement is fine but, there are a lot of people (myself included) who don't use those sites and don't even think to check them for official information. I do, however, check CCP's website and forums on a regular basis.
Silly me, thinking that CCP would use their own property to communicate directly with us customers.
Come on CCP, seriously. How about telling us what's going on here before you post on Twitter and Facebook? I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

Don't panic! It was an out of context quote I assume. We are still beavering away on events, the quote was meant to indicate that there is nothing on the scale of BoCP in our plans at this time. This was a quote that came from thin air. The only related thing I can possibly think of is having been asked about events the size of Caldari Prime being on the cards, and replying that while we have nothing on the scale of Caldari Prime currently in the works, live events are still a thing, and we're planning for upcoming events right now.
On the 12th, I spoke in game regarding the creation of the two new channels after we received a number of complaints that some players were locked out of interacting with live event actors due to the fact we were utilizing player created channels that players had moderator control over.
The result was two channels being created with no player oversight or moderation to ensure that everyone receives their fair share of content without the restriction of that content being in player's hands.
We are of course in a position where we have to allow everyone to have equal access to the content that we put out in live events, and it is of course unfair that people should be locked out of interaction with live events when they occur.
As I said this morning in a single comment made on the article on themittani.com, and can reiterate here, while we have nothing on the scale of Caldari Prime currently in the works, live events are still very much alive, and we're in the planning process for the future right now.
We weren't contacted with regards to clarifying this or commenting on it before the article was published, so unfortunately this lead to a bit of misinformation.
The comment that I dropped on themittani.com in response to the article this morning is as follows:
Quote:"In addition, CCP Falcon did say that live events, like the Battle for Caldari Prime, are on an indefinite hiatus."
I think there's certainly a misunderstanding, and misinformation here. I happened to casually mention that events on the scale of Caldari Prime are not in the works at present, however that we are continuing work on live events as a whole, and are currently in planning stages for the future.

I also contacted the author of the article this morning with a view to having this corrected, but as of yet I haven't heard back.

Thanks for the clarifications but, how about commenting on my assertion that players apparently need to monitor social media and/or third party sites in order to find out what's going on in Eve? Can you guys please try to assure that info gets posted here on the forums or, somewhere on a CCP-owned website first? Thanks! I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

I don't follow the assertion. In this case it was someone putting out a statement that we didn't put out! Why would we make sure that quotes that aren't really quotes are quoted on our own site? CCP Goliath | QA Director | EVE Illuminati | @CCP_Goliath |

Refer to the lack of any announcement in Live Events forum, the supposed home of Live Events, of two new channels for Live Events. That is what we are talking about. We shouldn't need to monitor 50 different sources. I should be able to log onto the EVE Forums, Read Live Events, and know about official things going on. It's great if we have a Live Events Twitter that also duplicates all the official information as well, and it's even greater if social media does spread the word as well, but we shouldn't have to use any outside programs or media for basic information. And that has been getting worse for live events in the last few months. I'd go as far as to say it's gotten terrible. |

+1 to This. Not saying that there shouldn't be other sources available (CCP Twitter, Facebook, Twitch etc.) to help spread the flow of information, but the primary source of official information should always be this Website, any other official feed should reference back here for Details and Discussion rather than have, for Example, Twitter Exclusive Information. |

This is exactly what I said in my original post. Using third party sites, social media, etc are great as supplements but, shouldn't take the place of CCP's own official website. As someone said above we don't all have the ability or desire to monitor several different media in order to find out what's happening in Eve, nor should we have to.
Please take these requests as reasonable bits of constructive criticism, devs. Overall you do a good job of communicating with us but, using this site as the starting point for official info on Eve would make things much simpler for us customers. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

There's nothing to communicate for events, so we haven't been posting, I'd go as far as to say that's the correct approach to take. The two new channels are for interaction with actors and devs in and out of character, as far as I know. Falcon and Eterne will be able to comment more concretely on this. Yup, this is the case, they're there for OOC and IC interaction in game.
To answer questions regarding why we didn't announce them here, it's simply because there's only player presence in them right now, we aren't using them actively at present due to the fact that we're currently not running live events and are still in the planning stages for the future, so there's little real need for people's presence there.
The intention was to "Officially" announce them when we kicked off live events again. Me popping into OOC to explain that the channels were being set up was simply a courtesy call at the time to let people know, in case people wondered why there were suddenly no longer people stopping by OOC.
We'll add them to the sticky when we start utilizing them in game after kicking off live events again. CCP Falcon -á || -á EVE Community Team -á || -á EVE Illuminati -á || -á Live Events Organizer

Bah, kids these days. Back in my day, if we wanted to learn about an event, we had to hear about it through random folks flying around just to get into the right channels, which changed weekly due to in and out of character diplomatic bickering. The players had eyes and ears in every system and the GMs would just pick one and start doing stuff, and we had to organize ourselves into taskforce fleets, and counter taskforce fleets, and counter counter taskforce fleets.
And once we found a plot thread, we had to fly about at random while the GMs spawned deadly massive fleets on cloaked scout ships for giggles. Then we had to pilot through heavy interdicted wormholes to get there and back, up hill, both ways!
And we liked it!
Keep up the great work, devs! |

Luxury! In my day, we had to spin our ships, rookie ships mind, for four straight days just to access one channel which changed every 20 minutes. The players didn't have eyes and only ear in every fifth system and we had to organize our fleets to counter the counter of the counter counter taskforce fleet, AND wi' no boosters active.
If we were lucky enough to find a plot thread, we had to blindfold ourselves and orbit the sun while the GMs spawned cloaked planets onto wormholes while spit-taking, then we had to pilot through Sansha's back garden where he'd turn us into a slave, work us down't pit for 5000 years, and then get back to our station (well, I say station, more like a gas cloud in a wolf rayet) where Dad would biomass us and feed us to t'fedos.
