So just back to the game after a brief overseas 'holiday'. Training has managed to get me up on both Caldari and Minmatar capitals. Chosen via my BS skilling.
Recovering some info from forums over the last few months indicates that this is all a waste of time. Moslty at least.
Caldari: good carrier for shield - crap fittings worst dread - dps application (but I like missile 'damage choice') super - meh. Its shields. titan - ok - nice fleet bonus.
Minmatar: terrible carrier good dread - Vvvv worst super by large margin (probalby due to shield tanking) titan - another meh - lowwer sig on caps = useless.
Gallente: decent carrier - drone bonus best dread the 'dps' super and beautiful! titan - umm - ok again, nice fleet bonus.
Amarr: best carrier, easy to fit, best for triage good dread super with super tank - probably best overall best titan, great cap fleet bonus and damn pretty
In many ways amarr is best - its painfully obvious that the resist bonus, cap bonus, cap range - all help a lot in capital warfare. Caldari match it, but oddly have trouble with fitting, and the current armour meta for cap fleets means its a dead duck. Gallente - well - the Nyx is the icing on the cake - or perhaps just the cherry. Avoid Minmatar at all costs.
Bugger me - why have CCP let it get like this?
Carriers: I would think that carriers should all get rep range bonus, cap range bonus, and then another 2 bonuses. Amarr resist and recharge. Caldari resist and shield amount, Gallente HP and local armour repair, Minmatar RR amount and local rep amount (or cap use on reps).
Dreads: Fix Capital missiles. Done for that.
Supers: Shake off the RR part and come up with gang link bonues that mean something. Make capping up hard on supers, cos the carriers all do it well. These are hard - I can imagine flying one but now its only the Nyx/Aeon.
Titans: Fix minmatar bonus! Sig seems very subcap oriented - agility might be the one! Speed? |

All the little points you're mentioning are actually being discussed in many threads in Features & Ideas but you've sumn it up quite good. I'd advice you to take a look at those threads and change your point of view or learn some stuff on the road, imho you'd be happy to find all those dudes opinions and ideas over there.

Aren't you forgetting the Rorqual? It may not have the repping bonuses of a carrier, but it puts out almost as much DPS with sentries, fits warfare links., and has the advantage of the ....W...T....F.... factor. Definitely worth considering, no? |

Revelation and Thanatos can both be filed under "bad", tbh. Naglfar gets a much better damage choice than the Phoenix and is roughly equal with the Moros, depending on situation. |

Ok - willing to accept that Amarr basically is best everywhere (Nyx and Moros) the exceptions.
Nice to see the Nag is ok as well.
Oddly, my corpmates tend to have Revs, and tend to love them. Its the 'no reloads and instant switching/range' that adds to their damage output. But that very structure specific, and its ironic that amarr dreads suffer because their armour win.
Having searched, it been this bad for a long time, and seems unfixable. The Nag aside - Minmatar really stink. Caldari more or less stink as much, and Gallente gets tempered by the Moros and Nyx. Capitals are about cap and tank I suppose at the end of the day, its survivability.
Has there never been dev input on this? |

Dreads were tweaked recently, with the Naglfar moving to turrets only, citadel missiles losing their in-siege explosion velocity penalty and the ranges of capital turrets being altered very slightly. It made the Naglfar good and shoved the Revelation further down the pecking order, but didn't change the Phoenix or Moros in practice. I think we can expect to see the ship balancing program move on to capitals by next summer.
No idea what will happen then. But it's plausible that the Nidhoggur might gain an active tank bonus, giving it a local triage tank superior to that of the Archon, in exchange for lower cap, EHP and resists. The Thanatos might gain a drone damage bonus too, to make up for the uselessness of fighters.
As for dreads, well, to be relevant the Phoenix needs a significant anti-capital damage advantage over the other dreads to make up for its hopelessness in the blap game. Extending the kinetic damage bonus to all damage types is essential, but it simply needs more damage too, it's silly that it has less raw DPS than the Naglfar given the Naglfar's advantage in damage application to small targets. Plus the Phoenix loses additional applied damage during a siege cycle because of the interaction of the siege mod and missile flight times. Giving it 30% more damage could still be regarded as conservative, frankly.
Ranges of the capital turrets are silly, they're far too homogenous. The Moros should not be able to use antimatter as effectively as present against a large tower, that should rightly be the realm of Pulse or rails. So a lot less range for the Moros, maybe a bit more for the Rev. Assuming that the Moros's 37.5% raw DPS advantage over the Rev remains, ofc (I wouldn't be surprised to see that cut down). |

One thing you should consider is implants.
Armour wins totally in this context. There is no real practical alternative for shield caps.
Given that Minmatar have shield super/titan and dread, and the abortion that is Nidd - cant tank what its repping, no range on cap tx.
Just stay away from them. |

Honestly I love the hel best looking super imo. I'd like to see it being able to armor tank but that's just me. I don't fly amarr, caldari carriers are good in there own way. Shield reps are faster than armor and your dropped at the start of the cycle not the end. But that's just my 2 isk |

Calling the Thanatos decent: EFT-Warrior/10. The only reason why the Thanatos is used is because it is armor-tanked, the fighter bonus is useless. |
