Hello to all,
As the title of the subject says, I am currently planning a small adventure into low sec and spend some time out there. However, being pretty much a high sec carebear, I am unsure what ships, modules etc I should take.
What sort of ships would you recommend for low sec blood anomolies and belt ratting? Does one find Gas sites in low sec? Are they common or rare? Would you recommend a venture? Any other information you can give?
I know its a sand box game and you do what you want or you go and find out. But I would like some information, be ready and supply myself before I go.
Thanks for your time,
Lee McGee.

I'd recommend scouting out a region to get a feel for the locals, or scout out a region to try and join the locals.
With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Take some time to get to know the neighborhood: adjoining constellations, neighbors, etc. Set up plenty of insta-undocks and safes before you start hauling stuff out there. Scatter a couple JCs around neighboring constellations in the event you **** someone off and they start camping your "home" station. On that note, don't make any one station your "home" station. Find stations with the services you may use most: repair, medical, industrial, mission agents, etc.
Do your scouting in a fast (maybe cloaky) frigate. After you have the lay of the land start moving some stuff in. After that, just have fun! "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |

As stated, take some forays, get familiar with the locals, and they to you. Maybe a cloak of some sort when creating safe spots.
You will get to like it. Not all residents are tweakers on a killing spree. I like the quiet sometimes. |

I more or less live out of Blood low.
If you want Bloods and gas sites, you have to be in Aridia; they're common enough there, especially along the Delve border. Venture should be enough to get you through, but you will get jumped and you will lose ships, so bring replacements.
As for combats, the 5/10 is actually somewhat harder than the 6/10, but either can be done with a Tornado and some creative flying. The Annex is also fine. Don't touch the Minor Annex; that thing is simply awful.
I used to use a Tengu for everything and have now retired it in favor of a Legion. If you have the budget, I'd recommend you do so as well, but honestly Bloods aren't all that bad in general.
If you wind up in Aridia, mind the Sadana-Hier gate and the Otakod-Van gate. The locals in the Ombil constellation don't care for visitors. Test was supposed to leave Soliara, but there are still a huge number of them there. |

A T1 frigate, classical solo pvp fit, with cheap modules. I know, it won't be good for any of the activities you listed there, but it will be the best tool to experiment how to survive in low sec. And who knows, you can even survive a fight, or even win it When you have harvested a bit more experience of low sec life, you can then risk some more useful (so more expensive) ships. |

How do you run the last pocket (webbing towers) in a Tornado? DPS seems pretty high.. |

Load barrage before entering, the 3 webbing towers pop with ~2 volleys. mwd to about 60km. After that the sentries don't hit you anymore. German blog about smallscale lowsec pvp: http://friendsofharassment.wordpress.com |

T1 cruisers, battlecruisers and battleships, they are cheap and gives the best payout on insurance, don't bring anything you can't afford to lose.
Covert ops frigs are nice to have if you can fly one.
Lee Mcgee wrote:Does one find Gas sites in low sec? Are they common or rare? Would you recommend a venture?
Gas sites only spawn in specific regions, if you know where you are going wiki will tell you if you can find gas sites in that area. If you are in a region with gas sites they are a common spawn, but mostly worthless. There are two types of gas, one that is only found in null and one that is found in low and hi-sec. The hi-sec gas is worthless, but in low-sec there is one type of site that will give the null-sec type gas, this is a rare site but worth doing.
If there is gas in your area it never hurts to bring a venture, but it's not a "must have" thing. I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous. |

Volley and warp. Your choice on whether you target the towers or the Exsanguinator directly. It's slow and risky but it does work. |

There is money to be made in combat exploration sites or faction warfare, pretty much anything else you can do will be better off in high sec as even in relatively safe low sec the increased risk does not offset the increased pay which is marginal. Also you will pretty much have to bring anything you want to sell to high sec to unload it, so there's that too.
If you have two accounts you can do this quickly and safe-ish-ly with a cloaky probing scout (helios, buzzard, anathema, cheetah) and a Tengu. Keep an eye on local and if you see a ship you suspect may drop probes it's generally going to be better to leave the site than get probed out, people will assume your Tengu is bling fit and will come for it if they have the means to find you. If you do not have two accounts you can scout with the probe ship bookmark and return but the two account method is a lot safer. But the fact that a good drop from a 5 or 6/10 can make you a bil or so instantly is what makes it worth doing.
I've been on hiatus for about 6 months but when I left Amarr low sec, particularly Genesis and Aridia were pretty much deserted when I play which is West Coast U.S. - Primetime somewhere in the Pacific (Japan/Australia maybe?), so where you live will affect the safest areas as much as the region you choose.
BELT RATTING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Not only are you out and about but you are at a celestial that is readily available to d-scan, if you get caught doing anything in low sec, chances are it will be while you belt rat or mine, great if you plan to bait a fight but bad if you're trying to make money. The rats are not worth much anyhow. |

Its basically the same encounter with a different (painful for tornado) damage type. If you get too much more tank, then you don't have to run at all, you can just blap the excangiwhatshisface, bm the wreck and come back in 5 minutes time. it can all be done with a prophecy, its just more likely that someone else will find the sig before you finish the second room.

Op
lo-sec is a great place to live and make isk but it is also very deadly area
your best bet is to stay away from highways and hot spots there are alot lo-sec areas you can disapear go out and scout your target area small cloaky frig be carefull of smartboms on gates
once u found were u want to live id use a carrier as a mobile home you can move from area to area easy find a station to base out of pick what ships you want depending on what you want to do i.e gas mineing to make boosters or t3's to run noms or wotever go cheap untill you feel comftoble liveing in hostile area
rember everyone wants to kill you and will try to
learn to servive there 1st and isk makeing will follow learn to book mark your new area station undock bm's 200k gate bm's and so learn how to use your 360 d scanner
if it just you and a few alts nomadic lo-sec life can be fun as well as profitable

Why, Low sec?
Null is much safer and the Rats are much better, almost safer than High sec.
In either case, you have to pretty much join a group (corp) or don't bother trying to live anywhere but High sec.
When I joined a Null Corp, it was a breeze getting in a out of Null... when I quit and moved back to HS,,,, I was just another target for the locals in both Low and Null.
Too much stress for a game playing solo in Null or Low..... join a corp. |

Solo in lowsec is no problem. Though I strongly recommend an alt for scouting and logistics (Transport and JF).
Running DEDs in lowsec is also good money, even compared to 0.0 DED sites. (Made 1,5B in under 2h today) I never lost a ship while doing PvE in lowsec, at least not that I could remember.
But yes, 0.0 is safer. German blog about smallscale lowsec pvp: http://friendsofharassment.wordpress.com |

I guess it depends if you actually want to pay attention or not, heh. Also some people just can't stand it if the site they just found is taken or gets taken from them.
So yeah join the blue lands of nullsec ... it's much safer. |

First figure out what you want to do in lowsec, getting shot at just for the sake of getting shot at isn't a good plan :p Some people go for the lewt, others for the lulz and the rest is roadkill. Once you know what you're going to do there, you'll know what kind of crap to bring. |
