Hi all, after spending a week on holiday (from the UK) in New York, I can honestly say it is the most insane place I have ever visited!
All the reasons I have loved my holiday, ironically are the same reasons I couldn't live here. So, to any New Yorkers here, my respect to you and your fine (but mental) city.
Oh, and the Statue of Liberty is quite small isn't it |

Syria is where the krazy is.
Honestly, New York is rather staid. If you wanted crazy, try NYC circa 1974. Chances of living through a visit without a mugging were near zero. |

Define 'Crazy'.
New York is bristling with life and activity, people and tempo. For some, that's everyday routine, to others, it's madness.
My idea of crazy is the backwater towns and villages. How can you live there and not go mad? So little to do (seemingly), such a different culture, such a different vibe.
I couldn't live long outside a city.

Clearly, you've never tried driving in Naples (Italy - not the Florida version).
NYC is much cleaned-up from its bad 'ol days. Times Square is particulalry changed.
CCP, debuff Barges, or buff Ganking. Either will do for me, but we need more Yaaar! in this game lest it become WoW in Spaaaaace! -á~ Me |

Yeah, this place is crazy. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Just people from all over the world, of all levels of income and all degrees of mental stability, doing whatever is their particular thing to do. Individual people come and go year after year, but the chaos and craziness just stays the same.
Got any examples of the craziness, OP? |

Oh God seriously and for realzzzzzzz.
Always heard my whole life about how 'crazy' San Francisco is. Moved there. Stayed 17 years. The word is....."vibrant".
If you want crazy, just try Tampa, Florida. Seriously bat-sh** crazy people here and most indeed. And Texas teaches in schools that Jesus walked with dinosaurs. Now THAT'S crazy. |

Yeah, smaller places have a different kind of crazy. Like "Sling Blade" crazy. My little town in Texas had: race riots at the high school (annual event on the last day of the Fall semester); a girl who managed to survived being sacrificed in a Satanic ritual by the town lake; a guy who shot 43 people in a cafeteria (in the neighboring town). Small towns can actually be little social pressure cookers.
New York crazy isn't as violent. It's more like random weird incidents. Like the guy on the subway who opens his rain coat to show you his giant bowie knife and a flashing bicycle light thing. Or the eccentric-neurotic Manhattan dog owners. It takes an OCD type to keep an animal in a little 12th floor apartment, and tend to its every little poop, exercise, socializing, etc. need. Then there all of the strange people living in the Chelsea Hotel. Professional dog walkers, reclusive writers and artists. Just about anybody there can tell you tales that make you re-evaluate reality. "Is this guy crazy, or am I?" |

Summer between 8th and 9th grade (1979) in Texas (right outside Houston) 2 classmates decided to play with gasoline poured on a small creek. Matches were involved. Both were disfigured for life......and everybody knew why, too. Both are dead from suicide about 5 years later.
