Gradient leaves Electus Matari after a dispute over goals and leadership
Kulheim RSS - Pator - Heimatar - Minmatar Republic, 108.01.14
Today at 18:30 EVT, Rocius, the CEO of Gradient and former executor of Electus Matari, gave the following statement on the corporation channels: "It has become clear to myself and many other members of Gradient that Electus Matari has failed to live up to that in which we had hoped. The overly liberal ideals that seem abundant in the alliance are not in line with what we feel is in the best interests of the Republic. As such, Gradient resigns its commission as the Executor of the Alliance, and withdraws peacefully. I will make the necessary arrangement inside the hour."
This decision to leave has been preceded by long discussions about both the alliance values and goals and about the practical decisions like choosing representatives on the alliance boards. Gradient feels that Electus Matari has ceased to be the pro-Republic alliance it was created as, and drifted towards the valid but not currently most pressing goal of creating a liberal, all-encompassing anti-slavery organization. "In the current political situation we feel it is necessarily to concentrate on the goals of the Republic", explains Elsebeth Rhiannon, Assistant Executive Officer of Gradient. "In times like these, we do not feel we can be part of an alliance that has Amarr in the board of directors and needs to discuss whether direct orders from the Republic government would over-ride said board."
Despite the disputes, Gradient wants to withdraw in peace, and remain in close co-operation with its former allies. The leaders also assure that all NAPs and other contracts Gradient has signed as part of the alliance will be honored, and re-instituted officially as soon as possible. During the period of leaving and reorganizing, all operations will continue normally.

Interesting and sad news. And after EM made a case for us of the Ushra'Khan being too extreem, we find Gradient leaving because the EM was too liberal.
Either way, I wish your corporation the best for the future, and I will watch the EM closely over the next months to see what direction this change will prompt. ------

Best of luck to Gradient on the road ahead.
What are some issues(other than slavery) Gradient will focus on that you were unable to during your involvement in the alliance?

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 14/01/2006 20:43:48 I would not personally say Ushra'Khan is too extreme, they are just extreme in the wrong direction. :)
Kaleigh, for the time being, I would rather not go into details of politics and goals on the GalNet. Not that there are any secrets involved; I just do not have the energy left. It has been a hell of a week. You guys know how to catch me on comms if you want to talk about it.

An... unfortunate... turn of events.
I am left with a quandry however: The Republic has worked with people whom are of Amarrian lineage for quite some time. Why is it unacceptable for a loyalist organization to do so?

Elsebeth,
In the past, things were said, things were done, yet we all were working towards what we thought was best for our people.
The Republic needs strength of will and purpose. I hope you and yours can provide this strength.
If Karin hadn't broken my heart so many times, I would applaud you for your continued support of the council and the Republic. As it is, I nod and recognize integrity and clarity.

It is with great sadness that I must report that Thrace Inc have also left the Electus Matari. You are well aware our motivations are not linked and we have made all abundantly clear in the appropriate channels.
I need say no more than fly safe Sister and I hope we fly together again soon.

Best of luck to Gradient in whatever they choose to do. It does seem as if what you wanted was not what the alliance offered.
I do not like politics and all of that but I can't help but take note of the line we do not feel we can be part of an alliance that has Amarr in the board of directors.
I'm going to regret saying this, I'm sure, but I can't just stand by here.
That is plain racist. If someone has done so much to help the Republic's cause then why the hell should genetics matter? If they truly believe in the ideals that the Republic promotes and in what EM does, why is the fact that they had parents of a different genetic stock so awful?
If I have the wrong end of the stick, please enlighten me. I have three friends of Amarr and Nu Kunni genetic stock whom I would trust with my life and who deplore the Empire's actions. I trust them far more than certain people of Minmatar heritage, that's for sure.

Edited by: Ogmund on 15/01/2006 16:56:31 Ysolde, The Amarrian in question was not removed from her parents crib at infancy. She is the graduate of an Imperial Academy and a product of their culture. Her standings with the Republic and the Empire show no evidence of dedication to the Minmatar people or our government.
She may be a fine person. I have heard many people I respect testify that she is. But that is not enough under these circumstances. Many within Gradient feel that the winds of change are blowing the Republic closer to war with the Empire every day. The Matari people deserve to be represented by organizations in which they can place their trust. I don't believe our people will trust an alliance which allows an unredeemed Amarrian to sit on the board of directors.
We part with EM on good terms and wish success and prosperity to all our friends who remain within the alliance. I know that when it matters the most we will again be fighting side-by-side.

Well I suppose that's the point isn't it Is that invididual harming or helping the republic? Have they done so much to help? There are obviously amarrians renouncing the empire just as there are minmatar renouncing the republic, and also those that side opposite with those of their birth.
(My 'no confidence' comment was a flashback to when people were doing the opposite of swearing an oath to the republic, due to Midular's mishandling of the khumack situation and the republic's policy of appeasement towards the empire...It was something I just remembered and wrote down instead of being pertinant to the conversation in any way ) __________________________ Indulge Me |

No, this is not just about hiring Amarr to the EM - there has been Amarr pilots in the ranks of EM for some time, and while I admit not everyone in Gradient did particularly love that idea, we chose for long to accept the hiring policies of other corporations.
I have been through this racism vs common sense discussion enough times already, so I will refrain from further comments on that in public after this one. Suffice to say people who want to make it about discrimination based on race are completely missing the point. For those interested in longer debate, my views on the issue are in Peace in a pod (link below), entry titled "The Amarr question"; catch me on comms if you have questions.
In any case, in the end, the question of the Amarr on the board was not the only reason for the decision to leave; what resulted from trying to talk about that matter was a more important decisive factor.
As Maral with more polite words implies, we in Gradient are pretty hard-edged and stubborn about certain goals and principles. I think we are in the right, obviously, or I would not be flying for the corporation, but it does not make life or finding unreserved alliances particularly easy for us. We compromised as much as we could - and that was a lot, compared to what we would have done in previous times - in order to be able to ally ourselves with other good people, but in the end it did not work out.
Maybe one day we will find a group of corporations who share enough of our principles that we can sign a common pact of policies, in a detailed enough a level to actually run an alliance. Until then, we need to fly on our own and be satisfied with the occasional co-operative operation with those whose immediate goals agree with ours.

Well, you know Else, there is only one other Matari corporation that holds to your views on Amarrrians as far as I know...
Guess which one that is?
Our hardline stance on those matters is the primary reason why we have never joined any Alliance or other association. Doesn't stop us from being friends with our more ... confused brethren though :)

"Hmm coulda sworn that's supposed to be 'Matari soldiers' ... damn Tels really caught up in this Republic thing ..."
He hits the comms pad in front of him:
"Telemicus brother, let me know if I or the Beh'hude can help in this time of change. And don't forget old friend who the Republic are supposed to represent - the Matari people. Is it not our brethren in chains we all fight for?"
Karn hits send, and heads for the hanger ready for another day of fighting. As he walks he shakes his head and mutters to himself.
"Republic schublic ... it used to be so simple brother ..."

"Republic schublic ... it used to be so simple brother ..."
Telemicus raises his glass to the screen
"To simpler times brother. I want to see our people free, you know this better than many. But I want more for them than just freedom."
"I want to see our people prosper, I want to see our people healthy and I want to see our people strong. Thousands of new citizens make it across the border each day. They need to be housed, clothed and fed first and foremost but those are just the basics."
"They need work and those that are able to become pilots need ships and weapons. That is where we come in. Freedom is a precious thing and once won she must be nurtured and above all she must be defended."
"Sometimes I disagree with the policies of the Government, that is a right of all free people. But I still believe that the Republic, the unification of the tribes, is the key to unlocking a great and glorious future for our people."
"I will admit that after the recent display of democracy in action that I encountered that maybe you are right. Maybe. But as long as the Republic endures governments can change. There is still a lot of the path yet to be walked and our people need the loyalists to stay true to the ideals on which the Republic was founded."
"Fly safe brother and may your weapons always strike true."
Telemicus hits 'send' on the console and wanders over to the window of his office. Looking out over the shipyard at the vast warship under construction he is heard muttering to himself. "Yes, it used to be so simple". With that he heads downstairs to the bar to refill his glass.
