I think it would be a good idea to merge the two skills Archeology and Hacking into a single skill, maybe called Analysis. Give players the highest rank between the two if both are trained and refund the SP of the remaining skill. Change any related modules, implants, and rigs to match just the single skill. I don't see a need to change the actual sites (outside of rethinking the very unpopular scatter mechanic) other than just modifying the code to accept the new skill and modules.
Why? Because these are essentially skills and sites that have identical mechanics and gameplay. It's simply redundant.

Yeah, its just a skill sink. But then again so are all skills. Your point that there is nothing different about them is valid. But these sites also need a look at beyond just the skill reqs. As you point out they are the same old mundane stuff. Perhaps if intead there was a different procedure for different kind of sites the skills would not be so dumb. As the system is I agree with you. But the system also has more fundamental flaws that also need to be addressed. A bad analogy is like a leaky screwdriver. |

Well said. The fact that this seems to be a good idea under the current system points to horrible underlying flaws in the system itself.
As is, I'm still opposed simply because skill time is good for the game. By this logic, you could argue to merge all the datacore/invention skills, and I can't imagine that would end well either. |

The system as it is, seems redundant indeed. Merging the 2 should be a "quick fix", even if it means reducing the mid slots of Covert Ops by 1 slot.
