So I've got 2 pilots. One is shy of 200k SP, the other is just shy of 900k SP. The pilot with less than 200k SP can fit an entire fitting of modules, including afterburner, etc. My 900k SP pilot can fit hardly anything. Can't fit even a single after burner. The pilot with less than 200k SP is Caldari and the other is Minmatar. I'm not sure if that matters. Is there any explanation for this? I can't think of any. |

There are a number of factors... but unless I know more details I can only guess (here is a way to easily display your characters' skills... http://eveboard.com/). What I can tell you right now is that total skillpoints do not necessarily mean a character is better.
So here are some possibilities;
- you have more skillpoints on one character in various skills that make fitting ships easier ("core skills" that reside in your Engineering skill tab like "CPU Management" and "Powergrid Management"). - different ships have more or less CPU and Powergrid than others... and some have more generous amounts of both over others. - are you sure you are trying to fit the right mods to the right ship? There is a difference between a 10MN Afterburner (Cruiser/Battlecruiser sized) and a 1MN Afterburner (Frigate/Destroyer sized). - by the same token, certain ships designed for certain weapons systems may not have the resources necessary to comfortably fit weapons they are not designed for (Minmatar ships are designed for Projectile Weapons... Caldari are designed for Hybrid weapons). - some weapons consume more ship resources than others (rule of thumb; long range weapon systems require more ship resources than short range). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

It's probably got something to do with your inability to focus your training.
Then again, you could have trained half of it into industry.
In which case, you've turned this into: I put all of my skillpoints into mining, why can't I fit the biggest guns? |

200 or 900k SP is nothing. Work on your core skills (you know about core management certifcate right?). And watch for the good implants and right size of modules for the ship. New CQ prototype |

Strangely enough I have a similar issue. I have two characters with this issue, this one and obviously another that both fly identical carriers with identical fits for moving stuff around.
Signal11th has pretty much lvl 5 skills for all the cap/support/cap repair etc and the other has most of this on level 3/4
Yet Signal isn't cap stable and the other less skilled one is.
I've been through all of the skills and the second account doesn't have any skill of Signals higher.
Both alts have the same implants as well.
Now the only difference I've managed to find is the one cap had the "old" Large Cap rigs fitted whereas the new one (signals) has the new capital rigs fiited. now both of these are valid and give the same 15% bouns.

It's because Minmatar used to be slaves and often less educated than the Caldari. Even when allowed to learn things by their Amarr slave masters, it was usually things like floor-polishing and bucket-carrying rather than useful piloting or ship-fitting skills.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

Back in my day characters started with 900k SP, and unless you picked carefully you were stuck with all sorts of useless skills. On the other hand you could also make an amarr pilot that could t2 fit a bestower straight out of creation. Oh, and we also warped uphill to Jita Yulai, both ways, in a decade-long plasma storm. As others have mentioned before me, OP; remember that skillpoints are the sum total of how much time you have spent training skills, but they provide no indication as to which skills you have trained.
Take my example: When I first started playing (I think this was a little before "Incursion" came out.) I made a "main" character that by the time I was done using had 3 million skillpoints in everything from PI to railguns.
By your logic, my 3 million skillpoint former "main" would have my newer character dead to rights. I could have completely annihilated my former "main" in a fight when this character had a mere 900k skillpoints.
The reason for your predicament is simple: you cant fit well on your higher skillpoint toon because you (probably) didn't train any adequate fitting skills!
Which categories you decide to train matter. Choosing to focus your training and build up a good core skillset of basic capacitor skills can mean a whole lot of difference between a frustrating experience and smooth sailing.
But no matter what you plan on doing or training, having a core skillset of which to base it all off of is a MUST. |

Topic locked, as it devolved into flaming and less than useless posts.
OP: You have different skills trained on your lower skill point char that allows you to fit more things than the higher skillpoint char.
Think of it this way, which is better suited to design a rocket, a PhD or a Bachelor's degree? Answer is: It depends on what the PhD and BS are in. If you have a BS in Rocket Science, you will be much better at building a rocket than someone with a PhD in Philosophy.
