OK as you all know I suck at pvp
Some people have told me to mannual pilot. How do I do this in a combat situation? I know you can double click to make your ship go in a certain situation but that doesn't seem that useful to orbiting an enemy. Since just going in one direction just allows the enemy to catch up to you and makes it very easy to track you.
I've had a look on youtube for tutorials but as usual the eve community is terrible at this kind of thing. |

The thing is to double-click often in order to adjust.
It also depends on what you are trying to achieve.
If you want to reduce transversal (because his guns track better than yours), then it's a good idea to center the camera on him and double-click in the direction he's going, creating a parallel course. If you want to approach a bigger ship in a spiral, center the camera on you, put him at the edge of the screen and click somewhere in the middle between him and you. Adjust from time to time. If you want to get close to someone that is faster than you, fly away from him, hoping that he follows you. then turn around, overheat your prop module and approach him. By the time he can react you should be in range of your scram/web/whatever.
And much more. Especially if your opponent uses the "orbit" command, you can make them do really stupid manoeuvres
Here are two interesting post on the subject: http://www.thewholefrigate.com/2012_10_01_archive.html |

generally I want to know how I can avoid getting caught in his web/scram.
As I play missiles transversal is not an issue. |

Did you read the link he posted? The info you asked for is in the link. If you need more info than that you will have to find some friends in game to show you. It's pretty difficult to put into words. |

I have to disagree here. For your weapons (missiles) transversal might not be an issue, but most likely to your opponents weapons it is. So, a high transversal will mean his weapons will have a harder time hitting you, while your weapons hit him for full damage.

Well I was going to give myself a shameless plug, but I guess you're already on it. Thanks!
The two posts in question are:
They feature awful touchpad-drawn illustrations that I am extremely proud of.
Anyway, manual piloting is not just for kiting, but for all sorts of situations: improving tracking, mitigating effects of TDs, damage reduction, positioning, sniping, bumping, and a lot more. Approach, keep range, and orbit are very limited tools. Most often the most effective way to do something is a good pulse of speed in the right direction.

oh no that link is very good.
It was just that he was talking more about getting in close, rather than trying to get out of it. Bad use of words while I was rushing |

I find when kiting or counter-kiting keeping your tactical overlay open is useful, especially if your having a hard time visualizing all the dimensions. Also having your overview set to show transversal and angular velocities can let you know when your going into danger or about to hit that "sweet spot" |

This link might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it shows how to get in under the enemies' guns (when they are concerned about their tracking and you are not). Could be useful for rocket scram-kiting since I know you use missiles.

Easiest solution: stay at range. Use longer range weapons and dictate the range. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Many vids suck. This one isn't awful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT8VqVcLDqc It touches on a manual piloting technique near the end.
