No, this isn't going to be a crazy idea or plan to make Eve Online look and feel more alive. I just have a few minor things that I think would work well in giving Eve a bit better feel to the game. Many of these are similar to what was changed in the Docking bay that gave Eve a bit more "alive" feel to it as you see ships docking and undocking from your hanger. It looks cool and isn't very resource intensive.
First - Remove the "Door" in the captain's cabin and have it instead be a window looking over a large atrium or open air space allowing you to watch (but not in detail.. little more than stick figures) people mill about, maybe what appears to be a vendor or stores, ect. This is a minor change, but it is a good distraction if the atrium area is lighted well. Plus, might give you a chance to mess, in tiny bits, various aspects of WoD models.
Second - Capsuleers are gods, so there have got to be more windows in around around the hanger. And gods have their followers, their entourage, their fans. Ideally, it would be cool to have a windowed area around the dock where it looks like people are wandering around, checking the ship out, meeting people, doing work, etc. Again, the detail on these people is non-existent. You could only tell that they were people doing something.. that's it.
Third - Billboards need to be more common. WAY more common. They need to be in the docking area, they need to be on a station, or around a station. The information on them can be what is going on them, or advertisements (real or imaginary), or related to local governments. Side note: If you do this, what you should do is have a contest where people make 30 to 60 sec (in any language) ship and module advertising videos. Winners get a plex and you pick the best 10. Do this every six months and play all of them in random loops in game on the billboards.
Fourth - This ideal is probably the least likely to happen: The outsides of stations need to be alive too. Not just a random industrials, but military ships too. In high-sec, I would think that you could have the local military flying a couple ships or two around station, maybe saying a few negative phrases in local if they see someone with low or negative faction values, like "Oh, that scumbag Orakkus is here again.", or "Hey Orakkus, find a place more your class, like a sewer!". Or positive things like "Yo Orakkus, you da man!" if you have good standings. Nothing outlandish, maybe they say something once every five to ten minutes. Also, have drones flying and repair the station on the outside, make it look like it's being kept up.
Anyways, tear it apart.. He's not just famous, he's "IN" famous. - Ned Nederlander

The ideas you'll (we'll) give to CCP!
Make it so you can buy billboards with real $$$ and then use them as roadblocks! Laugh in lulz as you block all of Jita with a "bubble" of strategically placed billboards around every station and incoming, or exiting stargate!
Even better, we could then have Billboard Shields! These would be billboards that nullbeards could surround their asteroid belts and POCOS with so no one could get into them! They would truly live in their own little bubble.
But in all seriousness, +1 to OP. I like the ideas. Seem simple to implement - the only change I'd suggest is to add more size perspective to ships in CQ. It's a little bit jarring when you switch from a Dramiel to an Augoror and they look about the same size. |
