I'm sure you've all seen the shitstorm that a very vocal minority of nullbears and goon trolls/knuckleheads seem determined to stir up. I'm here to make my voice heard, and to tell the devs that I am glad they are engaging with the community more actively in new and interesting ways. This is the kind of stuff I want to keep seeing in patches; E.v.E. isn't just about pew pew spaceships and fights, after all. It's about community, fun, and that sweet sweet isk.
CCP, put me down for a big 'ol thumbs up on the subject of "Blink 1.0".

While i don't mind the fact that CCP is giving somer blink cool ships and expensive i might add to be won in a lottery,i do mind the fact that cadual players will never have a chance of winning said prizes because lets be honest, only those with enough isk to gamble alot will have the odds of winning..and this is exactly the problem because those same people already have enough isk to play eve for a lifetime carefree (may have exagerated abit but u know what i ment) so in a sense..ccp either puts them on the market for sell or makes a lottery with many bought tickets for them ..in the end its the same thing...
If u wanna make this fair for all then limit the peoples tickets bought to 1 per person. Thats just my 0.02$ |

Dear Thomas Hurt
You were created 2012, while in most cases I feel age is not a factor, being so young in game there is no real aspect of why you would understand why people feel several issues over this. people don;t like CCP actively supporting a player run "casino" collectors don't like their collections be devalued (rare is what makes them hold value) and market trades don't like what can be their stock being messed with.
Eve has ALWAYS been rare ships once destroyed, were dead.. and never coming back, making them awesome things to own and fly, since they introduced the IWS they have added some more via blink also (to people annoyance) but introducing these REALLY shiny ships back into the flux is a real kick in the nuts for many people for many reasons not just the ones I listed.

I'm like Somer, and the site, and all the work they do. Have even used it myself.
BUT that has nothing to do with that fact that this is a VERY VERY bad idea.
Reseeding these rare ship of EVE history - REALLY terrible idea. (Destroying EVE history)
Making them won by a lottery for some people - EVEN worse idea. (T2 BPO - anyone?)
Making it though a player held lottery - WORST idea ever. (Conflict of interest...)
CCP - How was it again that this year "office tour" lottery was handled this year ? I still have not heard any officially back from it yet ... You guys REALLY need to take a hard look at this idea, and fix it ASAP...

I respect SOMER and the other player run organizations that add fun for all.
I do not enodorse and find it quite sickening that CCP would play favorites to ANY player run organization. This will not end well CCP. |

uhm i haven't seen anyone actually being against blink... A lot of people are against CCP handing over unique ships to a player run organisation for profit that is destroying a part of the game's history and makes no sense since well yeah what would the description be "unique ship won through a galaxy wide lottery by a privateer corporation" ?? lore wise it makes no sense.
Still i like blink, i play blink and hope i win stuff on blink, do note that if i would win one of these ships i would probably die in a fire in it to remove it from the game. |

In this case, i'm with you, the response i've seen so far is beyond childish.
It's not like with microtransactions where CCP's bone head move threatened to change some very fundamental things about the game, this give away to somer that results in some rare ships being given out isn't even in the same league. The knee-jerk reactions i've seen are, to be honest, pitiful.
CCP of course will end up folding because of the outcry, but this time I honestly wish they would stick to their guns on it. The pixels belong to ccp and they can give them to whoever they want. If people don't like it, unsub...quietly.

SOMER is fine, I have nothing against SOMER. It's an example of the relative openness that makes EVE interesting.
CCP "partnering" with them is a very silly thing. I really hope it simply wasn't thought through, given the alternative. |

I find it ironic this game has tons of scams, villains, etc and when something like this happens .... everybody cries foul!!
I love irony and this drama is something to called entertainment. What sort of entertainment? I'm not sure. I'll grab some popcorn and a Diet Dr. Pepper and enjoy the show and think on that for a little while.
Really?!? I can't believe people can get upset with this. Some folks need to get more Vitamin D. That means sunshine ..... as in no dark rooms or basements where you stare at a screen all day. Get some perspective people!
Till then I will enjoy the fireworks.... and my popcorn. |

It's not about "supporting" SOMER Blink. It's about CCP bonusing them with billions of isk worth of slag.
I'm not taking either side, but I am suggesting that your headline is misleading. It's not about liking or disliking SOMER Blink - it's about CCP's gratuitous bonusing of a for-profit concern. The controversy here is not that people like or don't like SOMER Blink - it's that they don't know what SOMER Blink did to deserve billions of free CCP isk. Why, instead, does not CCP give those billions to one of us, for instance? There's real reasons why your Eve character doesn't do /dance. |

The highlighted part is why I think some of the criticism is silly. Some people are actually saying "why them and not me?". Not being the jealous type, I don't particularly care since it's a CCP thing rather than some covert iran-contra style stuff like the T20 affair.
I know people feel like their complaints are valid. I disagree, I think some people are letter their inner-nerd go out for a stroll and should reign it back in.
It's good that players feel a kind of "ownership" of the game, so long as they understand that they don't actually own anything. CCP can and should do as they please, those who don't like it should unsub (as I plan to do if CCP keeps trying to mainstream EVE for much longer, but that's another thread altogether).

My 2 cents.
I don't like it. I have a couple of issues with this.
1) It introduces isk into EVE out of "thin air". No time was invested, no content was used. Just rare items and isk will be dropped into the EVE universe to random individuals..
2) reintroduction of rare items will devalue the worth of any existing items and change the 'Lore" of those items.
All in all , this just has a "greasy" feel and PTW* undertones.
IMHO

Or I can keep a video game in it's proper context. Last I looked, CCP wasn't handing my alliance anything. I'll go QQ about that later today.
It is most certainly CCPs game and they can do whatever they wish. However, as I am interested in a fair and balanced game I believe it to be a terrible idea. If CCP wish to maintain a fair and balanced game, they cannot do things like this. |

The pixels may be theirs, but the history is not.
If they want to ruin their credibility by arbitrarily handing out wealth to player entities they can do so without ruining that history at the same time. And no, copy-pasting a texture and doing a 15-¦ hue adjustment is not enough work to make that an infeasible alternative. No, not the pixels, it's the people behind the pixels exploding in space rage that I am space-raging at! I am at this moment angrily spinning my State Raven around in it's hanger in protest of this sillyness. In my mind at least, because I'm sans state raven at the moment.

No it doesn't. That's why the collectors are crying into their mothers' aprons right now. Any isk spent gambling on these things was already in game. Any isk that someone redeems through blink as a buyback if they win one of these and choose to take the payout was already in game. Any isk that some wealthy individual might offer any potential winner to become the owner of one of these ships was already in game. Putting items into the game does not create new isk.
