Yes but if you read the QnA that was postered on the Somerblink thread.. you will see that CCP decided to do it through Blink becasue they do not have their own lottery system set up.. Sure they could make one.. or they could just use one that is already in place..
Also I don't see this is favoritism in the least.. if you have a corp that helps support the EvE comunity and have a proven track record then CCP may deem your Corp worthy to hand out limited edition prizes
As SomerBlink is the bigest and have done alot for the comunity they CCP has reconised this and gave them prizes to hand out.. this isnt the first time they have done it. when Blink hit 1quad isk payouts CCP handed over 4 Collectors Eds and 4 Faction Scorps and there was no where near as big of cry as this..
and TBH if it wasnt for the ships that CCP chose to use as prizes non of this crying would of been happening in the first place.. If anything this has probably been a huge boost for Blink in general for all this extra talk about them |

They're profiting greatly from people who play their lotteries during these events hoping to gain these prizes. It's made worse by the fact that CCP put it in a devblog, which is not really any different from saying "hey, go spend money here so you might actually win something!" Oh wait, it's not. But that is pretty much the essence of all this QQ about CCP's involvement with SOMER.
Don't approve? Don't play it. I approve of SOMER and the little things CCP did in the shapes of prizes.
Can we all move along now?

Everybody has access to it. 1 day old, 10 years old it doesn't matter.
You however CHOOSE not to participate.
This is NOT favoritism. EVERYBODY has a fair shot at winning this. If the latter was NOT the case, then yes, it would be favoritism.
What about all the best rats/ores/plexes only to be found in nullsec? CCP isnt killing off the biggest alliances, so everyone can have access to it freely and unharassed. Is that favoritism too? No, those who choose not to risk going there do so consciously.
Stop using 'expensive' words out of context to enforce a point that lacks any form of validity.
*Wake up call* there will only be a select few winners. Somerblink itself is a lottery, they make some ISKies running such a show. Will they walk away with the prizes themselves? NO, they're excluded from their own prizepools. Inb4 "SOMER is a scam" - please go QQ elsewhere if that's your opinion. I've seen enough of those people lately. Grow up. Primary since '07. GÖÑ

SOMER Blink still makes billions upon billions of ISK in profit. Off a $0 investment.
Meanwhile, every single other entity in the game world must evaluate risk and reward and put down some sort of collateral (be it time or ISK) to achieve such profits.

Or people like me, who refuse to sign up for an in game corps site. If CCP want to give out prizes, they should do it. Not hand the prizes over to a group who are highly likely to be scamming on a daily basis and participating heavily in RMT.
Don't get me wrong. With this much scrutiny, I doubt blink will be stealing the prizes, but CCP are essentially forcing people to sign up for blink and give them isk (which blink will RMT) if they want a chance to get limited edition stuff. Because those prizes were trivial token gestures in the grand scheme of the game and thus didn't bring the broader principles into such stark relief. No one makes much of a fuss if someone exceeds the speed limit by 5 miles an hour but that doesn't mean they reject speed limits and it doesn't mean they won't go batshit at someone who exceeds it by 100mph. Nor does it invalidate the criticisms they level at someone who does something far more extreme and far more dangerous.

I don't support Somer Blink.
Not because of the loot that CCP is giving them, but because it pains me to see people take advantage of the witless. You know, all the people that haven't wrapped their heads around the simple concept that if you want to win in a casino, you open one, not gamble in one.
I know it's just a game and they use virtual money, but how many of these 'tards do you think buy GTCs to support their gambling.
That's just not right, in my opinion. It crosses the line and somewhere down the line I believe CCP is going to be in a boatload of **** for allowing it in their game.

I will say that, as a new player, this whole hurrah over SOMER blink is what pointed me in their direction. I might not have even noticed the giveaway or the player organization as a whole if every other forum thread wasn't about how awful it was to provide any sort of aid to a for-profit player run organization.
Guess what ended up happening to me? I tossed a meager 20 million ISK at Somer blink to give it a shot, won a promo blink for a billion blink credits, and ended up with tons of frigates and cruisers I could only dream of affording beforehand. And it was fun bidding on things, lose or win.
If I hadn't gained anything from that 20 million, would I have been bummed out? Not at all. Thats the whole fun of gambling. Because at the end of the day, if you only gamble what you can afford to lose, it can be a fun activity. Its even more fun when you get to play with such low denomination currency (if you so choose).
Honestly, a player-run casino that takes a 20% cut for themselves and uses a portion of it to fund EVE vegas events seems like a perfectly reasonable organization to sponsor. Is it really that big of a deal that they're for-profit? They still provide fun for new and existing players, and encourage people to buy PLEX for blink credit, which means more money towards the game you love, coming out of someone else's pocket.
Just like aesthetic/vanity items like the monocles or anything else, they contribute to CCP's pocketbook, which means more money for staff, and a more profitable and happy devteam, which is good for the game. And it doesn't affect you ingame at all! Its not pay-to-win, or providing any other direct disadvantage to you as a player.
Somer blink gets a +1 from me.
@Mr Epeen: Playing at a casino, or any other gambling site, isn't about winning more money than you put in. Its about the rush and the chance of hitting it big. A rational gambler expects to lose their money gambling, and does it simply for the fun of it, and is pleasantly surprised when they manage to get something while also having fun.
After all, we play EVE, just like any other game, for the fun of it, right? Unless we're making money RMTing, we never get back what we invest. Its really not any different. If you don't enjoy gambling, thats fine. I don't particularly enjoy mining, and some people only like pvp. But we each have aspects of gameplay that are fun to us personally, and gambling is something that some of us certainly enjoy |

Neither null, nor goon/troll/knuckehead. Still don't support this move.
I shall reinstate my proposal:
1) Nobody play the gambling "game". Seriously, not even the "free" tickets.
2) Do not purchase any of these ships if they hit the market, no matter how cheap they fall (not likely)
3) Shoot on site anybody related to that corp/alliance, as well as the ships in question. Even if you're a miner with no intention of fighting, buy a gun if you see them and blast them away. Suicide gank if you have to.
4) Block the gambling site on your browsers immediately. Whenever some link pulls you there by mistake, the blocker should stop your hit being counted. Less hits will hopefully mean less revenue from advertisement on the site etc
5) When the winners of said ships are made public, eliminate them and their associates with prejudice. How you do that, I'll leave entirely up to you. Shoot them, bounty them, stop trade etc
Edit: 6) Shout in local the extream rip off this corp is. Do it in the highest trafficked areas, with a link to a happy face, so that other pilots will smile, rather than feel ripped off and unsub. Scams are fine, but this is beyond a joke. This goes as a response to any advertisement they have, If they speak in local, speak in local, if they leave containers, leave a container...you get the idea |
