I'm surpirsed no one is talking about this, but to me this seems like one of the biggest changes they can do...
Quote:Guerilla-style Warfare Support - Tactics to chip away at the behemoths have surfaced, allowing small fleets of mercenaries, saboteurs and troublemakers to become cause for concern for even the most reinforced of alliance strongholds.
So what does this mean actually? That small groups can wreck havock on the large alliances now?
Does this mean less blob tactics or that smaller fleets can hurt moon or sov? "Entitlement" is a euphemism for "I hate the way you play and it makes me cry like a baby". If you fantasize about being immoral it means you enjoy being immoral deep down. |

They said POS changes in Odyssey too...
What's on that board, and what will end up being delivered, are different things entirely.
It's also quite possible that, by this, they mean the "siphon moon goo" thingy. Which, unless they make that deployable module immune to pos guns, won't be all that useful anyway. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

Not that I'm against this, but doesn't it already exists? Bombers epitomize hit-and-run tactics, as well as high alpha ships. But what do those tactics actually do?
People don't have to engage you. It's not like you're going to impact on them.
That's what something like the siphon is for. Strip a pos's guns, plonk down the siphon, and steal goo.
Then they have to engage, or lose isk. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

What does it look like for the attacker? Log in a blockade runner. Drop siphon. Safe up and log off. Check every two hours and empty into cargo. Make a drop off run when full.
How much could you possibly hope to steal in a two hour session? Solo not much, the opportunity may be there if you hit multiple locations with a coordinated blops gang. But given effort of multiple people and the high value stuff you are putting at risk, will you be able to steal enough to make it worth it? Logoffski covert cyno alt in camped system, another cyno alt for the trip out, blops and blockade runner would be the needed setup. And systems within single jump range are more likely to be patrolled.
What you're more likely to do, is run something like this when you start looking for people to covert drop on. Place siphons go about your business for a couple hours, then pick them up on the way out if you didn't die. That sounds a little more entertaining. Or drop a bunch of these as bait, when you want to actually fight the blob that comes to remove them. |

Yeah, my big concern for the siphon is that it just becomes more sov structure spam ping pong. Better if you have to defang the pos, sending an alert, and force a fight...or...

I think CCP is looking for more ways for players to provoke fights. Grinding down a POS takes time and nobody likes to shoot structures when you're roaming with a small gang.
It's not something that outright puts a spanner in the works of sov but it can be annoying enough to provoke a response. Is it Hotdrop O'Clock yet? |

I'm cautiously optimistic. Hopefully they commit to retooling it until it provides the general result that they're looking for. Stuff like this is hard to project around, so you need to be prepared to tweak it after initial implementation.
Again, the idea is definitely in the right direction.

I'd argue that it actually helps the people you are talking about. Goons, btw.
Depending on how the siphon system ends up working out, this will be the single greatest buff to griefing ever devised. Think about it this way.
If it's easily usable, lets say, by cloaky trasport ships, then it will be spammed relentlessly unless they make them cost or time prohibitive. It could easily get to the point that it's unviable to even put a pos in most systems. And if they are hard to use, for instance large enough to only be carried in a freighter, then they will make little impact.
Another possibility becomes, as I mentioned before, will pos guns be able to shoot at these deployable modules? If so, then you have to have a fleet take down the guns first, then you can harvest their stuff instead of having to take down their POS. This seems to me to be the most likely and least obviously trolling way to make us use these.
Time prohibitive is my likely thought of how they will restrict these. If it takes, oh, 4 hours for this thing to steal, and it does it all in one big burst at the end of the cycle, then it could not easily be used to troll.
Otherwise... prepare for the siphon spamming. (oh, and for the new skill this will undoubtedly require) Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

That's the only way i see it working. However, then you get in to the issue of TZs, encouraging vast multi TZ alliances that can offer round the clock responses. It still doesn't really solve the issue of forcing people to fight for their stuff when they're actually playing, but without a lot of time to prepare the blob response like timers do. Otherwise you're just creating more TZ structure ping pong that plays to massive organizations. Official Representative of The Nullsec Zealot Cabal |

And that really has to do with the problem of sov in general.
I don't really see what the problem is with multi TZ alliances though. That's good, smart gameplay. I mean, what good is a mechanic with the literal intent to deny you the ability to sleep? That's the real ping pong, batting the same nonsense back and forth because people at odds with each other sleep at different times. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |
