Hi,
Some corp mates and I were discussing this other day. I thought it was a really good gameplay idea and that I would suggest it. Maybe I'll see it in EVE some day.
In the winter expansion Dev's are planning on giving us implants in killmails.
The suggestion is to add further depth to this.
When a person is podded, a corpse drops. This can be scooped, or destroyed and used as a trophy of sorts.
With implants being treated as loot on a killmail that doesn't drop, here is the suggestion:
- make implants have a percentile chance to 'survive' podding (similar to loot tables, some are destroyed, some survive, some are possibly 'damaged'.
- If a person scoops a corpse, and brings it back to a station with a medical facility, some gameplay mechanism could be devised by which implants that survived the pod kill could somehow be extracted and repaired, for later re-use or sale.
- Ability to 'harvest' and 'repair' the implants could be skill depenant, or possibly require additional materials (salvage?) so that a dropped implant would not be 'insta-ISK' but require some training or effort to turn back into a functional implant.
This would give a tangible result to podding someone, give some usefulness and gameplay to the 'corpse' objects currently in the game, and give people incentive to come up with new ways of catching pods, and new ways of evading podders.
Grim, perhaps, but eve is a ruthless, grim game :)
Please feel free to add suggestions, +like, +hate or fill my suggestion full of logic holes. I simply thought the idea had merit and warranted discussion. |

I have always liked this idea and it fits in with everythign in Eve.
I reccomend the procedure can only be done in a station that has BOTH laboratories AND a medical facility, this increases the use of the caldari outpost and limits the stations it can be performed in in empire.
Also a POS should be able to do the same procedures using a laboratory, have an extra medical facility module at pos's to do this, medical fac at pos could also serev other purposes maybe... |

Implants can't be removed without destroying them from healthy, breathing individuals, it wouldn't make sense that they can't survive ideal situations but could survive your podding to be honest. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

Fair point, but I'm sure some fan-fic or skill based reason could be created for this.. Something like thta shouldn't block potentially compelling gameplay.. There's a million holes we could poke in EVE like that, for example, like how our crews apparently work for free, planets are stationary objects in space, stars are only a few hundred miles across, etc, etc, etc, . |

Blobbers already have way too much incentives, so there's no point in boosting them ever further. And you don't pod anyone outside blob PvP. You just have no time to do it.
And as mentioned, it makes no sense to allow 'salvaging' of implants while you can't remove that at the station at will. 2008, CCP Zulu(park): "command ships are fine as is" 2011, CCP Greyscale: "is the Nighthawk actually underpowered?" Nice progress, guys. |

I like this idea. Besides, you cannot remove implants from LIVING, BREATHING individuals - presumably because you can't get the darn thing out without cutting their skulls open. No such limitations with a corpse - you can rip it apart to get all the goodies you want once you're done teabagging it back in station.

My thought is that if a pod gets hit by a weapon that is the size needed to hit a freaking space ship, not much is going to be left.
I think it's a miracle that the corpse survives. |

the guns/missiles don't actually breach the pod... it self-destructs before that happens (or at least that's what it sounds like according to the lore). |

Implants should never survive being removed from the host ever. If you want a trophy sure.. make the implants a broken implant upon extraction. The reason I see this never happening (beside the lore problem involved) is that it would become an exploit.. people would pod their characters for a chance to move implants out to other characters or to sell rather than lose them when they upgrade.
also in no case should any player ever be able to assertain ahead of time what implant another player has. |
