CCP are based in Iceland, why should they care about US law? What about Russian law or uk law, Chinese law or any law that is not icelanic law. Why should they pander to one nations law over another?

I suppose there are two line areas 1) what _should_ things be in the eye of the opinion-holder 2) what _is_ the law
The two are separate.
Just saying that because lots of people combine the two and they're different discussions.
Also.. rarely is one point without rational arguments to be made on both side.. but with one side being perhaps far more correct than the other.... if you believe that 95% of the facts line up on your(and my) side your decision is clear but that doesn't mean that opposing thoughts must be dismissed, nor must a compromise be made.. but sometimes those 5% things can be addressed in a way that does not impede function. Finding a way to make people who feel different than you happy by not materially compromising your goals is just plain smart and polite.
--
Why would CCP care about US law? - if it effects their ability to do commerce with 25% (its got to be at least that) of its paying customers.
Does US law apply to a foreign company's sales of goods/services to US citizens? - that is a legal question.. not a question of moral right and wrong - I don't know the details of international law, but I do know that Germany has successfully pressured US companies to refrain from selling WWII era German Government and Army propaganda items - they have a public policy reason behind that believing that any goods (or even documentaries.. which seems very extreme to me) that promoted an evil regime 70 years ago could foster divisive and dangerous behaviour that could undermine the modern rule of law - gambling among citizens is seen as a moral danger by many goverments throughout the world... whether or not this activity is gambling is s SEPARATE argument.. and a valid argument..but IF a goverment believes it is within that localities definition, like the wwii propaganda, the international law may support international commerce being limited by the laws of the citizens in the country where they reside
Do we need to agree? - no.. but then that is not an argument about Law but about what we believe law should be - law is a very complicated field and an opinion in one area has ramfications elsewhere... law is about Process.... and how a process is applied must have some coherence --- I'll stop there
I disagree with the German government curtailing documentaries depicting the methods and manners and examples of N propaganda ... I think that is certainly an area where people should be as edcuated as possible to be able to recognize signs and to live with the thought that "today is different" is not true, Every ill of the human past is likely to be repeated if humans can't recognize trouble coming.. .or sneaking in. In the US the McCarthyism of the 1950's is likely to rise again with this big brother state... but it's going to purge people for something silly like "bullying" being a crime against humanity because some coach yelled and made a subordinate feel inadequate as a method of breaking the subordinate from their sense of self and re-examining the situations because of the overblown hyperbole the boss used.
So... Gambling ? is it or not? I don't think it is entirely so.. but at the extremes of behavior it is. A few steps by Somer to eliminate extremes of behavior and rewards could go a long way... cutting the ends of a bell-curve will not effect the other 85% of the people say. |

CCP - they should also provide a fixed $?Euro buy price for every item that could be attained through games of chance....let a person buy that rare ship for 3 Plex or 2 billion isk or something directly from CCP (nice isk sink too!).
- a fixed sell price in isk... even a very high one ... would clearly draw a line where their involvement is far less direct.
-- a fixed isk sales price option of the ships would allow those that has moral and perhaps addiction issues to stay clear of games of chance by choice without temptation to engage in such activities or be at the mercy of repurchasing items at a premium from other players.
- a fixed sales price in Isk of the rare items would elminate the notions of favortism by requiring groups like SOMER or others to purchase the goods for auction by the same terms as any other.
- arguments that the lotto would be "less fun" because of eliminating highlight exactly the point that detractors are trying to make. If the intoxicating "rush" of getting something rare is necessary to attract participation.... participation is being fueled by an irrational and emotional human reaction that lends support to it being something that could run amok in a slice of people with certain emotional chemistry........ whether they need to be protected or not is a matter of opinion...but recognizing that an intoxicating emotion is part of the fun supports, rather than detracts from those that argue the plausibility of it drawing people

we are already well aware that when you reprocess a ishkune watch scorp it gives 1 trit, so their pretty much worthless to sell.
