Just a heads up to buy any BPO your need for your DUST 514 mercs before 8th October, 2013 as CCP are removing them. Any you have bought will not be removed of course.
Apparently this is to allow construction by players of equipment but I'm not sure the mercs have any facilities yet to build stuff

Erm. It's an official announcement on the DUST 514 forum. I don't get why they are doing it before setting up industry in DUST 514 but there you go. |

I'm not sure how many there are. I have a DUST merc that I started during the closed beta that has about or over four million unspent SP. I keep meaning to go have a go playing DUST but it's a time factor more than anything else. |

There are BPO's for just about every Militia module. Their purpose is to pretty much allow for modules to be generated for free for suits, at the cost of some AUR.
There were also a couple BPOs for suits (Standard Caldari Assault, Standard Gallente Scout, etc) that were purchasable on the market for a while, too. It seems CCP is moving towards removing them to create some more ISK/AUR sinks... or hopefully they have production on the horizon... one can only hope. Want Dust514 district ownership to matter? Want to nuke someone's PI from orbit? Read here:

Are the items in the Infantry Gear BPOs or the individual items? They look like BPOs by the icon. |

I don't think it's about building anything though... OP.
DUST is an empty wasteland of nothing. There's no point. I don't think they want to let DUST people build anything.
I think they just figured out that once you get all the militia and T1 dropsuit BPOs, and you already have a LAV BPO or two, people tend not to get more aurem. Given there's like 100 people still even playing DUST, the RL ISK for hamster food and low wage workers is drying up. I think somebody at CCP said "hey guys... we need to churn these accounts. Let's take away the infinite gear."
We'll see how that works out.

You could at least put a half-assed amount of effort into checking basic facts. Granted 2374 players at the time of this post is not a huge number, but it is still over an order of magnitude larger than the figure you made up off the top of your head.

At any given time, you can see that Dust has roughly 10% of the amount of people eve has logged in and playing. I would say that is a pretty good amount. Especially when you consider you can log on and play a few dust matches in the same time it takes you to travel 10 or so jumps in eve. (by this I mean that people probably don't spend as long on dust per day as in eve) |

Worldwide - How many people have PS3's and can get Dust for free? How many Million?
Worldwide - How many people are interested in paying a monthly subscription for a space ship game? Not many.
So the fact that eve has 10x more people logged into a niche spaceship game than a free to play fps on a major console should really worry CCP.
I am one of the people who had high hopes for Dust and really wanted it to be good. But can't deny the numbers. Dust was stillborn. It is a shame, but a fact.

I suppose it's a case of whether there is support for industry in DUST 514 from posts on the official DUST 514 forum. I haven't read the DUST one for a while so I don't know if there is interest.
I looked at my DUST merc on Sunday. She has over seven million unspent SP now. I noticed the Aurum BPO's have been removed as well now so single items are available to buy now for small amounts of Aurum eg 30 Aurum etc. |

There is a vote underway to try to help CCP get a better handle on what the player's want to do with the BPOs since now CCP broke the news that BPOs will no longer be available in general. Players who already bought them will get to keep them in their inventory, but CCP is undecided on whether or not to allow those players to freely trade those few BPOs that are around in their inventory.
