im totally confused about this ship.... i dont got one self but im concidering buying one but im unsure its worth..
Nightmare - is it worth anything when doing missions?
how to fit it efficiently?
is it more effective to do missions than a raven?

Tis a superb armour tank (please dont sheild tank amarr ships ) It isnt very good at damage, and a good domi pilot could easily take it out. These kind of ships are more showboats than proper combat ships. If you want something with a bigger combat advantage over its regular counterpart, check out the Rattlesnake (Scorp) and the Vindicator (Megathron).

Edited by: keepiru on 20/01/2006 23:03:04 Its main problem is it doesent have the cap to tank properly (like an apoc) and its much too short on cpu to fit 4 proper launchers.
It actually does a hell of a lot of damage in standard mode (no dmg mods) compared to other ships without damage mods, but with a split setup its a waste to put damage mods on it. ------------- Please fix the EW stacking bug, it's a disgrace!

In my experience with flying this ship, you have to sacrifice one of the two important things on the ship:
1) offense so your tank is awesome and you can keep it running by fitting CPU hungry mods,
or
2) defense so you can put out some damage.
The cpu on the nightmare is rediculous for what its trully capable of. Having said that, it is possible to dish out about 60% of its total damage capability while having an awesome tank, but you need really good skills in every department necessary to achieve this. The ship is more of a "I have a ship not alot of others has" kinda thing. As far as mission running, use a raven...big time.
Also, regardless of what you do, if you get a NM i would seriously suggest you run with atleast one NOS, but preferrably two. That will help smooth out a bit of cap problems.
All this aside, in the hands of a good pilot with good skills, its still a dangerous weapon, just not as much as others, but atleast its pretty.

I have flown a Nightmare for missions (having previously used a Raven).
The Nightmare doesn't really have cap issues compared to the Apoc because you can use the extra low slot to make up for the bonus on the Apoc and because it's got fewer turrets to feed. That means you can run a standard Apoc tank if you use the extra slot for a CPR. With named modules you can squeeze in 4 tachyons and 4 cruise missile launchers (if you're into that sort of thing). Better tank than the Raven and better damage than the Apoc.
As keepiru stated it doesn't pay to use damage modules, so a tank setup is pretty much the only option. The main drawbacks are the high skill requirements and that it takes longer to get used to fly since you have to time your instantly hitting lasers with the delayed damage from the missiles (for max efficiency).

i agree with xeno, he has made some good points concerning the ship. that is almost a perfect description.

The nightmare is pretty cool, but yeh i only use it as a badass tanker though. Don't really see it as a dmg dealer.
But like said above, that extra low slot fit a cpr and it still has a nice cap recharge though.
And how to fit it, yah depends what you wanna do with it eh :) fit it like a nosphoon or go for dmg wise. Enough choice
