What I don't understand is this weird idea that Hi-Sec is in some way more profitable than Low-Sec. I like to mine so i do. What I mine is lower end ores that while they sell must be sold in huge quantities to make any real ISK. I have friends who do live and play in Null and we chat about how much more ISK they make then me all the time. So if Player A in Null makes vastly more than player B in Hi-Sec how is Hi-Sec some way more profitable than Null? I can mine veld and such all day while my Null sec friends rat in Null and run missions in Null and at the end of the day (We have compared) he makes 10 times what i make mining. Now this is ok with me as I enjoy doing what I do in Hi-Sec do to limited time to actually get on and play anymore. So where is the problem here. How is Null somehow so unprofitable. I lean towards the fact that in Null you lose ships at a far higher rate than I do which costs ISK to replace making your chosen play style unprofitable. Seems like choices to me. So if I don't PvP a ton, therefore retaining more of my profit margin I should somehow be derided for having good business sense!
Noe the ganking to me is not an issue as I see no inherent problem with myself as it is part of the wonderful system we call Eve. PvP should never disappear for the same reason, whether in Hi, Low, or Null. But the argument at times seems pretty ridiculous since the Eve Universe is plenty big enough for us to all play in. Add to that the fact that built into the game mechanics are career paths like mining, or hauling, or add your own and it seems funny to me that we all argue over how everyone else should play the game. I will agree that there needs to be changes across the board however, as the game does seem to stagnate a little at times.
I have lived in Hi-sec pretty much my entire time in eve (which I admit isn't all that long) and while I enjoy what I do on a personal level for me I am not a carebear. I am not a carebear because i would actually love to get out into Low and Null since I see it as an opportunity to learn a lot of new skills that i currently do not have. The problem arises however that griefers come along, do their thing for fun, but never come back to make an offer such as, "hey carebear would like to learn a little more about the "REAL" Eve"? I stuck with Eve because that is exactly what happened to me as a new player. I was playing for about 2 months when someone comes a long and can flips me. That was ok as I was learning and knew that **** happens, maybe I should be more careful in future. Flipper comes back and we start to chat. He began to teach me many more things about Eve that I never knew and we became friends. Problem most the time is that there is a disconnect. Most long time players want nothing to do with new players aside from showing them that "hey sometimes life in Eve sucks, get over it.
I like what was mentioned before in this post, show me why I should come out to Null and be a part of you and maybe you would get more willing to actually do it. Why all the bickering over who makes what where, present yourself in a way that makes someone want to be a part of what you, your corp, and alliance have. |

The whole Somalia comment makes sense (sort of), but not really a point. I have spent most of my adult life in and out of Iraq fighting and the idea that we all want to be safe is partly true I guess. I however love the rush I experience in combat in real life, which is why i stayed in until I retired. The Hi-Sec dwellers also need to understand that there are those who play Eve who want the continual excitement of PvP, while those that do also need to understand that some do not. Get over it all!
Sometimes it all reminds of watching my kids play when they were younger and a fight would inevitably break out because one wasn't playing the way the other thought they should. Are we all little children who are gonna continue to fight over how we each play?
There obviously would be a reasonable assertion that someone in say .6 and above would expect some sort of lawful protection as it is EMPIRE SPACE and no empire would let their sovereign territory be lawless. However those in such territories also need to remember that nice shiny safe cities like New York still have crime, gangs, murders, and people who want to kill you, and so should Hi-Sec. though the punishment should be there in some meaningful way as a valid deterrent. However the deterrent should absolutely stop the "BAD" activity from happening just as real laws throughout the world don't prevent "BAD" things from happening, and that's the bottom line. If CCP actually wanted the entire sandbox to be like Null and the, "Wild, wild west" than they would have left empire space out of the game entirely which they did not. Again however show the Hi-Sec people the real incentive to move out with you and maybe they would.
As it stands now I hear far too many Null players (some of them RL friends) complain that Null is so boring and when Hi-Sec people see those posts in the forums they think, "Well hell I enjoy what i do so why should I move out there where even they say it sucks". I know that not all feel that way since there are also many posts from vets who say how much they love it out in Null and will never go back yo Hi. So why can't we at least respect another's right to play as he/she sees fit? |

I'm just glad that it's impossible to shoot docked people and fairly hard to bump them out of POS shields if they're trying to stay inside. Sometimes one gets caught in an industrial/rifter just as 20 people decide to bubble and camp the station.
I'm also glad for bubbles when we catch that one poor person in a drag bubble and get killmails from that one harasser who spent the last two hours running around trying to gank ratters. |
