I've seen setups for both active and passive setups and how different people swear by one and not care much for the other, My ferox currently runs a hybred active/passive shield
5x heavy launchers 1x 150mm rail (waiting on skills for a med nos) 1x 150mm rail with antimatter
1x large standard shield booster 2x large named shield extender 2x passive 32% hardeners (em+thermal)
2x pdu 1x bcu 1x wcs (i lost one ferox to scramming im not losing another)
I use 5 light hobgoblin thermal drones i have much powergrid left but very little spare cpu
I'm not following one ideal or the other but am i getting the best out of my ferox? In lvl3 missions the shield and cap both run dry at about the same time with selective usage of the booster.
but my question is, can replacing the large booster with another large shield extender provide the same level of survivability or will i need to change other modules as well? |

No, you're not getting the best out of your Ferox. I'd swap to a Medium booster and exchange one of the extenders for a shield boost amp, or swap the booster for another extender and swap the PDU's for Shield Power Relays or maybe BCU's.
Really, it's better to do one or the other, but not both. Personally I love being fully passive. I only run two extenders, with the third slot being mission-specific (webifier or painter for deadspace missions, MWD for regular kill missions because the Ferox is soooooo slow).

There is quite a few options that work quite well with the Ferox. I currently am using 2 active hardeners (which hardly use any cap) and 3 large shield extender II's, with 2 PDU and 1 shield power relay in the low slots (plus a BCU II). It basically makes my tank really tough to break as I have over 11,000 shield hp, good resists (will be moving to invuln field II's soon) and since I use primarily missiles I never run out of cap (it hovers around 60% with both hardeners running and the shield power relay on).
I used to use an active setup with a large shield booster, shield boost amp, 2 hardeners, and a web...it works great but only in short battles ratting in belts, it definitely wouldn't work for long missions.

With my Ferox, i used Med SB t2 + amp, 2 active hardeners and a named shield extender. In lows i had 2 pdu2's and 2 Gauss Field Enhancer 1's (I used a 5x 250mm named in highs, which explains the mag stabs). My set-up worked pretty well for lvl3 missions. It could tank a few cruisers at once pretty well and there wasnt much of a problem of cap drain, (which could be sorted with a couple nos)

If i switch the large booster to a medium, take out both passive hardeners and replace them with a third large extender and an invunrability field
i will loose 7% resists on em and thermal but gain 25% on exp and kinetic, i will gain ~1500 hp to the shield, my cap should last longer as a med uses 20 cap p/sec (the large was 40 cap p/sc), but the med will only repair 1/2 as much shield, the hardener will use 4 cap p/sec, will the increased resistance counter the lower repair amount?
as i mainly fight angels, the spread of resistance is good, but this is still a hybred isn't it? I see no reason to put shield power relays and shield boosters in the same setup as they are counterproductive, I dont think i would feel confident enough to remove the booster and leave myself no method of shield recharge, lack of cap is not a major problem as i use missiles and will soon be fitting a med nos (or two if they will fit).
how much would two invunrubility fields and two extenders compair? |

I run: 5xHeavy, 2x250mm rails 2xLarge Shield Ext. II, 2x Hardeners, 1x Target Painter (sometimes an AB) 2xPDU, 2xBallistic
I've had to warp out of one L3 mission since RMR with this, the tank is excellent, you really don't need more for L3 mission running.

Active set up rules for missions. But you need skills and a T2 equipment.

why are you running passive hardners dude? i run 3 active hardners and my cap is absolutly beautiful. with the 2 pdu's and the nos you are working for..you will have plenty of cap. drop the large shield booster for a t2 medium...believe me, you will be greatful. -------------- now this is the way a sig should be Xio2 |

If large fits, better go with it. It's the exact same hp/cap ratio, but at least you have the possibility of boosting more / s (for less time of course), which could allow you to last longer in a fight where you take more damage per second than your medium booster can boost . You just need not to let it run permanently.
But I agree with the active hardeners part. You'd be much better with active hardeners and a booster you can't run completely for ever, than with passive hardeners and the same booster running forever, considering the cap you have on a BC. ===== !!! Fix SB - Love for AFs - Fix drones AI !!! |
