One thing that's frustrating me as I learn this game, are these scatter cans. Here's my process for data/relic sites, please give it a read and see if you can add or recommend anything.
Before I hack the site, I run a scan on it. I'm only doing this because I've seen it recommended. I can't yet see the value in this, but I'm sure there's one?
I then zoom out some, and start the hacking. This is so I can see most of the cans. Seems to work ok.
But when the cans pop out, I just seem to lose out. I've read so many conflicting things......
First, I have a Tractor Beam installed. Does this help? And do I need to activate it for the scatter cans?
Second, you just single click on each can to retrieve, correct?
Then: what's the best way to get as many as you can? Can you "que up" cans, or do you need to click, wait for the can to be retrieved, and then click another?
I really feel like I'm just missing about 1/2 the cans and who knows what kinda loot. I've read a site stating the loot is color-coded. Blue is best, followed by Green, Yellow, and Red....true? Because it seems they are all the same color to me.
Granted, I'm doing this is hi-sec space. I also realize there's an implant to help with this, but I don't have that kinda ISK yet.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated. |

Yes there is one.
You can see what the data/relic Container obatins and so you can "cherry pick" the scattering cans.

You dont Need any tractor beam for that. Havent used one and clicking on one scaterring Container automatically uses an "onboard" tractor.

Correct. Double click would move your ship towards them.. this only helps if they are more then 2.5 km away to catch them with your onboard tractor.

Your really Need to get the cans that contain the valuable loot. Thus for you Need to cargo scan the whole Container before hacking/analyzing.
For example: Data site: Carfo scan Shows you only decryptors and datacores. Then you only go for "parts" minicontainers. Any other Container contains "crap" . So after you got all your before scanned loot from parts Containers.... just move on to the next hackable/analyzeable Container.

You know the loot from the crago scna before you hack/analyze it. The colours where just mentioned for the high to lowest valuable loot on neural boost.(now ist empty). The colours dont aplly in the game.

my help:
Data sites:
Pre cargo scan: Faction starbase structures, data Interfaces, T2 Rigs, skill books = Data Containers decryptors, Datacores = Parts Containers.
Relic Sites:
Salvage t1/t2 = Material and parts Containers. Faction starbase structures/t2 rigs/prototype Inferno modules (aar, asb,lmjd....)/skillbooks = data Containers.
So you always can skip scrap Containers and Equipment Containers.
Forgive all These capital letter words... it is automatically doing this in this Forum for me :( |

Nanami Enpei already covered almost everything so I'll keep it short.
Exploring works the same in low and null space as it works in hi sec. In wormhole space it is different - sites are guarded by Sleepers there (Sleepers are nasty and will shred an exploration frigate).
If you go exploring in low and null you should fly cheap. Cov Ops is ok, but you shouldn't equip a sisters probe launcher. There are quite some people out there who hunt explorers. Check this link for an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIUy3-_efts
And you might want to check these links as well: Link to PDF which explains the scatter containers: http://go-dl.eve-files.com/media/1309/Neural-Boost_minicontainer-loot-distribution.pdf Link to site which helps to check the value of the stuff in the container you just scanned: http://evepraisal.com/ |

First, thanks for the replies....very helpful and useful. That's the list I was talking about in my OP. I'll go back and read it, but I didn't really glean anything from it.
I guess the question I *still* have, is when collecting the cans, do I only click on one at a time? ie: click a can, wait for it to retrieve and then click another.....or can I click multiple cans and they will be brought in one after the other? |

Since Odyssey 1.1:

I think other people covered pretty much everything, but in short:
-Data Sites: Scan for valuables like blueprints, if there are none, go for parts/materials, and I think equipment too -Relic Sites: Parts/Materials have everything, ignore the others -How to fly: I usually keep at 2500m from what I'm hacking since this is the distance needed for the "tractor beam" to pull the container. This way you can grab the ones coming at you first and then go for the ones going away without having to change directions much, which will cost you some time.
And finally:

When you click one once, you're going after it until the ship manages to get it. I think you can cancel it clicking in another but only if you're farther than 2500m. I usually choose the first one of the kind I want and use the time to check out the names of the others and plan the order that I will chase them, and start clicking as soon as the ship is pulling the container. |

Alright, so another ? then. Is there any reason for me to have the tractor beam fitted then?
Also, is there something that explains what category the things I scan fall into? ie: parts/materials/data/etc? |

Ahhh, I went back and re-read this document, and with some of the stuff I learned here, I now understand it. Should help me to figure out what cans to go for right away.

No, collecting the scatter-cans uses a built-in short range-tractor that every ship has. |
