With hybrids being the middle ground between lasers ( high cap, no ammo consumed) and projectiles (no cap, ammo consumption). I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice if hybrid ammo reflected this difference.
By having the hybrids use an elemental core (antimatter core, iron, tungsten, ect.) that would have a chance (95% <- very rough number) at taking damage. similar to a mining crystal. With this chance of taking damage then you can sometime pull out a few extra shots per core (if you are lucky).
Notes: 1. I don't know how to compinsate for the fact that diff. turrets have diff. clip sizes. ideas welcome
2. I hashed this out rather quickly so feel free to change this around to make it work. |

the main problem with this is that hybrids are not just an arbitrary mix of lasers and projectile, they fire plasma that is either fired in a focused plume of energy or fired in a solid shell using a powerful magnetic rail. there is no way to rationalize the use of a power core when the technology needs plasma fired in a shell using magnetic fields. of course the eve universe isn't really the most realistic example of physics, but there are limits to the amount that ccp can stretch the laws of the universe. could work better for blasters tho, maybe you could buy ammo in the form of plasma, and just pure it into a hopper tank in the guns instead of buying the shells, then removing the plasma to fire it like they do now. |

on another note. hybrids are one of the most underused weapon systems when it comes to pvp in eve, i see more and more myrmidons using projectiles instead of hybrid. I like the concept but it will dramatically change the mechanics of using hybrid firstly and secondly. It needs to have an effect on its damage output to interest players to invest in hybrids more. |

Xeddiphan, interesting idea with having the plasma in a hopper for the turrets to use. Were you thinking one hopper for all the turrets or one per?
and luckily, Gobat Alexia, hybrids are getting a damage boost or at least rails are. |

then again one hopper for all, kinda defeats the whole turret concept.
maybe have these "cores" be sealed plasma containers. |

if that's the case then i still see a problem with rail-guns in that they fire a shell containing a plasma substance, as for blasters in pvp, i use blasters all the time to great effect, and remember that they are boosting the stats on hybrids, rails are getting a damage buff and blasters are getting a tracking buff. back on topic, if the cores are plasma storage tanks, then they would only make much sense for blasters, which fire raw plasma. in that case, each turret would have a separate plasma hopper that could hold the same number of shots as the current setup, but you would need to buy the raw plasma as a separate item then hybrid rounds, kind of like the difference between artillery shells and auto-cannon rounds. |
