why not have comets flying thru, or in orbit, a system, when detected, u can attempt capture it with tractorbeam. When stabilized, it can be mined. |

I'm not a big fan of mining but this sounds like fun. Having to use fast ships to slow it down before being able to mine it successfully seems to be a nice way of creating content and making new players useful for industry oriented corporations.
I'd even go as far as to say the moment the Tractor Beams are turned of, the comet starts moving again. My Condor costs less than that module! |

Mined for what, and where would they happen? Would they be on overviews, show up as anomalies, or need to be probed out? |

Nice idea, random occurrence
1) Fast ship follows, tractor to slow it down (1000 speed, then under 500 while tractored) and "more gathers" expensive alloys via a hacker device mechanic.

How about making it just a rare Ore or Ice that usually isn't found in that area. So the hard scanning work and group activity actually pays off. Could see giant Arkonor Comets flying through wormholes.

There are "comet" sites in the game already, but I don't think that is what you are meaning.
Secondly, comets are massive compared to a ship - you would require at least a capital ship tractor beam, surely.
Thirdly, I can see people trying to smash them into planets, stations, P.O.S. or anything that it can interact with - the ultimate in miner bumping.
Finally, how are you going to get it into warp? Even if towed at 4000m/s, even a modest distance of a million kilometres, that's going to take you about 3 days to tow it into station. l8r \o/ |

Or if introducing comets/ asteroids in the game remove normal ice belts and grav sites.
The comets/ asteroids can be found in a system. U have 2 basic instances for it.
1st part finding it. (After first scan its a beacon or normal grav site) 2nd part stopping it, depending on size u might need more and bigger ships. After Finding the comet/ asteroid till it is stopped the bounty payout for missions is reduced because it is on collision with either a station or an inhibited planet. 3rd part mining the **** out of it.
Each Comet would consist out of an ore conglomerate of the former grav sites. That means u mine the roid/ice but get the minerals proportional to everything in it out of it. Of course the comet/ asteroid will also be shrinking in size when u mine it. |

I would actually hop into my mining barge if I had to work with other players to 'save' a station from rogue comets.
I'd hop in my catalysts if there was a chance the station would go boom too! Wouldn't THAT be fun? <_< |

i think that comets would be a cool addition to the game and as far as being able to tow/mine it might i suggest a completely random occurrence (maybe show it on a map as if it existed) otherwise the average player will never see it as it would be mined or removed by the time someone like me who only plays at night could even see it. |

Do not slow down the comet, instead, tie your ship to the comet with bucky cables and mine all the valuables before the comet crashes into something more interesting. Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Im dectecting a destructive idea is emerging from my idea lol But a big comet heading for one of the big tradehubs, could be a nasty funny thing to watch.

years ago a CCP brought up an idea about comet mining during a fanfest.
since then the idea was pretty much forgotten by just about everyone. |

How about comet anomalies that collide into asteroid belts, kind of like how rats warp in. Then you get random occurrences of mineable ice fields in random asteroid belts. |

How about large comets that sometimes pass through a system, widely visible and only minable for a set timer before the comet leaves the system again?
To spice things up, those deep space comets could sometimes drag some kind of space based life form with it, let's call them void kraken.
HighSec: Sometimes void kraken babies emerge from a comet if it is mined. Can be fought of by frigates/destroyers. 25% of all comets have them in it.
LowSec: Void kraken juveniles and strong enough to make serious trouble even for a full-blown combat cruiser. 50% of all comets come with juveniles.
NullSec: Void kraken adults, multiple battleships or capitals ar needed. 50% chance of a void kraken hiding in the comet. (I didn't want to be too mean. ) |

yeah and if its hit station, local services like bounties will be reduced till the station is repaired. to further the repair effort on station u need to transport some materials to it. the same goes for if a meteor strikes the planet till the emergency relief isnt needed anymore. |

and again, my catalysts would like to say hello to your repair fleet.
Now, given that in the books, a Nyx crashing into a station is enough to cripple it and kill everyone inside, what do you think a comet will leave behind? |
