With this topic I'd like to collect some advice about the routines commonly used before relocating in a new system (if any): bookmarks and data collection, scouting, supplies etc.
I'll explain my situation but I'd also like to know what's your routine when relocating in low-sec or null-sec as an independent, if there's any difference or preferred way to do it.
Right now I'm in High sec, so at least I don't have any issue about HOW to get there. I've finally found enough time to get into some PVP, being a noob I want to try out some frig fights before diving deeper in space. I'm going to join RvB,, so I moved in their systems in The Forge and started reading guides here and there, trying to figure out which routine would be the best.
Bookmarking Gate Spots: for every solar system nearby I'm bookmarking 150 km away. Insta Warp-out spots for the main stations Random safe spots in space for each solar system I read some guides from EveUni and so on but I can't figure out how to get to deep space spots far away from any object. I'm not even sure I will need them but I'm trying to establish a good routine.
Supplies: since I'm in High Sec a noob industrial alt and some contracts should be enough. I'm trying to have with me enough ammo, cheap hulls and relief goods. I'm curious about how (and if) an independent can survive in low and null sec and how to get supplies there.
Clones I don't have any jump clones and this chapter is still a big "?" to me
I'm sure there's more but I can't figure out anything else at the moment
Is this bookmarking routine a time sink or is actually what you skilled pilots do? How do you get ready for a new life in a new environment?

now i am just venturing into low sec and safe spots in my opinion are a must. i would create a jump clone or 2 and use a clone till your comfortable in low sec or you may find you loose your main character plus any costly implants you may have |

do at least 200km for your gate spots, preferably a bit farther.
In low and nullsec, a fast frig is usually sufficient for picking up a few items here and there. A covops scanning frig is absolutely super-useful for scouting and moving more valuable cargo.
For getting more serious amounts of supplies, blockade runners are absolutely fantastic. Especially if you're an industrialist, they are some of the most useful things you will ever train. Their usefulness extends to highsec operations as well. They're a bit expensive and a long train for newbies though.
If you're out in null, courier contracts are a big deal. Fighting is Magic |

Bookmarks
Safes aren't all that safe unless you are cloaked, you can be scanned down in seconds by a competant prober.
Random spots: just bm an anomaly or scannable sig, a few days later it will do as a random safe. Bear in mind that it will be IIRC within 4AU of a celestial so you might want to make some mid-safes and then use them to make mid safes so you aren't inline between two celestials. It's a trade off - your time versus how paranoid you are
Deep safes: there was a trick to making these far out of the solar system. a) this trick has been fixed and b) in a previous patch, any ships, cans etc were moved within 64AU of the system or something like that. I still have some deep safe bookmarks in Fountain, not sure I can actually warp to them though :)
Supplies: laser boats might work, or some friends and black ops (takes a while to train). New depot thing in Rubicon sounds like it might help you as well.
Jump Clones: Train Informorph skills *first* then join Estel Arador Corp Services, that corp has many corporations you can use. Read the page on the Evelopedia for info. and look up the corp ingame
Bookmarking can be a timesink, like I said above it's time versus how paranoid you are. Depending on the area you are in you might be able to buy (or beg) a bookmark pack (can only be sold on contracts or via direct trade, contracts are safer) but bear in mind some or many people may have the same bookmarks. |

RvB is pretty organized, they will have BM's all over the place, obviously they not the safest, but its a start. They also have ships and stuff for sale. getting a jump clone is pretty easy, train infomorph to I would recommend 3. Join EACS for a day and make some JC. Just be careful though, they are often war deced. But find a system that they have stations for creating JC in more than one station. Once in EACS it will take a few minutes to create clones, then leave corp. They do take donations but there are no costs to do this. The thick plottens... Thanks for the replies
Batelle, what the cons are for a 155 km Gate spot ? Interceptors? I was thinking I can warp within 50-100km to be safer. Good advice for the covops frig.
Voetius, thanks for the bookmarks info and Cage Man for the EACS advice

You want to be far enough to warp to the gate. The idea is to land on-grid to take a look. If clear of bubbles, etc then you can warp to the gate. 200km+ is needed. Safe to go about 210 or so. If you are closer, you have to slow-boat to the gate and lots can happen in that time. Use a safe spot (unaligned BM listed below). Warp to gate at 100km: BM. Warp back to safe and then warp to 100km for new BM. If not greater than 200km away from gate, align to safe spot until you are.
Basic Book Mark Types:
1. Aligned book mark. Travel from the gate to the sun or any planet. BM enroute. Good BM. 2. Unaligned BM: Go back to that BM and then pick a different celestial body. BM enroute to that one. This BM is out in space and will give you a cleaner approach to another gate. ie, miss a bubble from a popular gate. Better BM. Considered Safe Spots. 3. Instant undock: Once you undock, hit your MWD until you are 200km+ away. BM that. It allows you to instantly flee a station when under siege. I recommend a second one off-grid. 4. You mentioned a tactical (the gate BM). Have one for your home station too. Have more than one. Use safe spots to make these. 5. Instant dock. Pick a spot above and below the station where you can warp directly to to instant dock. 'dock' does not always work.
When traveling in null, use d-scan. It takes almost no time to make an off-vector aligned safe spot before moving to an unknown gate. Taking a little more time to make an unaligned safe spot is even better. You WILL use them later, so do it right the first time.
Don't share your BM's. Ask in fleet before you warp to somebody. I miss any BM types? ... it's late.
Have fun. |
