Hi folks,
i wrote a small windows tool for scouting called EVE Pirate's Little Helper: http://eve-plh.com
While there are already websites like raynor or adashboard available, it offers some distinct advantages to those tools especially for scouting for smaller gangs, like: - It runs on top of a EVE client window, so you can use it like an additional eve window and don't have to switch to another application - You don't need to paste data, a simple copy (ctrl+a, ctrl+c) of the local chat members list is enough. EVE PLH watches your Windows clipboard and starts analysing as soon as it finds eve character names. - It automatically analyses the killboards based on heuristics. Immediately see if someone is a cyno char, a ganker, a solo player and more. (Many thanks to the zKillboard guys for making this possible!) - You can filter out chars with blue standing. Especially when you travel with a fleet, you don't want to search targets inside a list of friendlies. - You can immediately see the character age of all people. - Hovering over a character highlights all corp/alliance mates. - Analyse killboards easily. Just double-click a character to open his/her killboard in eve-kill or zKillboard
I'm interested in feedback and ideas either per eve mail or to [email protected].
Thanks, Rischwa |

Checked out the webpage, but I could not find the source code.
If you want people to run an unknown tool that scrapes clipboard and accesses the network (possibly encrypted making it hard to see what it sends) you are better off opening the source code for inspection.
...remember that EVE players (should) be a paranoid bunch. |

I probably won't open the source code, as i e.g. don't want people removing restrictions on the amount of calls made for the character info retrieval, to get the data faster. But if you are afraid, it only watches your clipboard (and has no other data about you) and sends unencrypted data to public APIs so you can easily check it really only gets data for the characters and doesn't send anything about you, if you absolutely want to. If somebody can provide me a compelling reason other than "i won't use your tool" to open source it, i may think about it ;). |

Could be usefull in FW aswell ? if you add in parametres to distinguish between LP farmers, mission runners, FW recruits and FW veterans ?

Mhh sure, good idea! The question is what could be good heuristics to find that out from their killboard and the other public available information? |
