As the title says, I am able to start the launcher and patch, but I am unable to start the game itself.
After hitting "Play," the launcher pauses for a short moment and then closes, with nothing happening afterward. The EVE Online icon disappears from the Dock.

I am getting this same problem now.
I was just online, but I got disconnected. Tried to restart the game, and this happens. The launcher isnt actually starting the game all of a sudden.

No assigned mac dev's = no support.
Quasar Raperion wrote:I see my post getting views, but no one replies. Where can I go for support on this issue, if not here?
You can try petitioning it.
Have had this happen, usually if eve crashes or freezes. So far, for me, a reboot fixes whatever goes wrong but it's indeed frakking annoying. |

This is the very infuriating experience I get every single attempt to log in. The update from the past week was when I started having this problem. I've been all out of sorts since I stopped being able to play.

Exactly the same.

I didn't post here because I didn't see this thread. I just know that I'm ready to put my head through my desk because of the frustration I'm dealing with.

Same here. Reboot did not help. Must be the latest patch. Guess we have to wait for another patch. Is their a linux client? Is it more stable?

Same here. Have never had a problem with the Mac client. It was working just fine on the 14th. Couldn't log on the 15th due to work. Try early morning US East when I get home and it took a dump.
I would launch and hang for about 5 seconds then revert back to play. Tried the work arounds and rand the repairer and nothing. Tried a fresh install and now it launches, I log in hit play and the launcher just vanishes.
On a similar note it's not throwing any visible errors. Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding the error logs for eve?

1) Try making clones and running those.
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients?_ga=1.160197437.1404681707.1315316566#Using_the_EVE_Clonemaker
2) Try hitting Play over and over. Sometimes I have a clone "Go Bad" and trying to run it over and over, sometimes 30 times, will suddenly result in a working client. Maybe the same idea works with the Launcher.
3) Go to:
Users/username/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/settings/
Delete the following files
core_char__.dat core_public__.dat core_public__.yaml core_user__.dat
4) If you do a full reinstall be sure to delete the file in application support: Users/username/Library/Application Support/EVE Online http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Ok. I was finally able to log in again but at a very high price. I had to set my Mac back to factory settings. However, the socket disconnect error is still occurring. I'm much more patient with it now that before. However, it's still very bothersome. I'm not exactly pleased that I had to go to such extremes in order to alleviate the problem with very irritating side effects. This problem still arising after a full system reset only means that the problem is not with my Mac, but with Eve itself.
After spending about 10 days unable to log in at all then another 3 days backing everything up and another day of factory resetting, I'm exhausted with all the anxiety this has caused. The problem being on their end means that we're not at fault nor should we have to do drastic measures in order to access services we are paying for.
With all that said, it feels good to be back online with Eve even with the socket disconnect problem. But I don't have to like it. |

The socket closed thing is usually due to dropouts in the internet. Fore example once I was in a hotel with free WiFi, but in a room where the signal was weak. I kept getting socket closed errors. Moving to a different room solved the issue. Eve is very very sensitive to these dropouts. A dropout that you would never notice while web browsing can kill eve. This is true for everyone, not just Mac users. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I'm getting the same behavior with the launcher. I click "Play", it turns to "Launching" for a bit, and then turns back to "Play". I can see an instance of EvE running but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
I did find a workaround for this. In my case it seems to be related to my screen resolution. I am using a MacBook Pro with Retina. My screen resolution is set to 1920x1200. If I launch the game at this resolution it just hangs as above. If I change the resolution to a lower setting the game launches fine. I suppose I am OK with playing the game at 1680x1050, but it sure would be nice to be able to play it at the higher resolution.
Anyway, if you are having issues, try lowering your resolution.

Can you check the permissions on EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/MacOS/cider and EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/Frameworks/wineserver?
i've been doing some work on the dev builds on Singularity, and someone internally had somehow lost the EXEC flag on those files, which presented in the same way you're describing. EVE Launcher - Team Special Circumstances |

MacBook Pro User here, past disgruntled, now totally pissed off. No realistic responses from CCP with ANYTHING worthwhile in terms of a fix. God knows what they've done to the Mac version this time, but one thing is for sure: its a f***ing **** up. I've tried removing Eve from my laptop, done the complete uninstall, then wasted half a day re-installing. And of course, now it doesn't run the launcher AT ALL!! Is anyone out there from CCP R&D paying attention? Surely there must be a new version of the launcher that will run available to us? The one I downloaded from this site doesn't work and I don't know where to look next. Frustrated is too small a word for how I'm feeling right now.... |

Hi Atropos,
There are very few of us who play Eve who are able to dig deep into files and folders to find the bits and pieces that CCP seems to have messed up in the latest series of updates. I just want to play the game I am paying for and at present, I cannot until such time as you give this problem the attention it deserves, and with the greatest respect, pull yer fingers out and fix it!!
Best regards,
Ramptonicus |
