Edited by: Willo Vasquez on 30/01/2006 14:31:31 Why is it that 9 times out of ten, my SW-900 webbing drones dawdles back to me at about 10m/s when it's finished webbing it's assigned target, OR wonders over in it's own sweet time to the next target I send it too?
It's almost like it's stoned half the time ... ''' hmmm? whu? you want me to wha.... Hmm... ok'... meanders off towards your assigned target, by which time your other drones have already fired on it from 40k away, drawing agro from the whole level, which means they've gotta be on speed... 'whatcha want me to do, huh? huh? Kill that ship 40k away? Yay! Hokay!!' at which point they zip off, opening fire when they're about 1k away from you....
Drones... Strange little things....

When I tell my drones to return to my ship, they switch to slow gear. In one point, I was in a running battle and decided I would be needing to leave, so I recalled my drones. I was going maybe 200 m/s, and the medium scout drone was falling behind...
There is something very screwed up with drone speeds.

The current problem is with return and dock, not return and orbit, it seems.
Return and orbit -> scoop is a temporary workaround.

Mine stay just out of scoop range when asked to orbit. Even if I stop my ship they won't come into range. I have to actually fly to them and scoop quickly before they move out of range again.
CCP if you're listening please fix em! Its gonna cost me a fortune because I'm gonna put my foot through the flaming screen! Annoying, pain in the ass, crap AI.

actually - ppl on speed get a lot done, just none of it works...
as for OP: are you serious? there is a problem with drones returning/getting stuck on one another/going slower then their max velocity? are you sure you were logged into eve? are you sure that they weren't jet cans?

I can't honestly believe they still don't have a "reload drone bay" feature.

try making a gang with just yourself, seems the drones stop with the attack anything mode, but doesnt help with the speed, and clumping.

You wanna know why? Its cos you interrupted them during an attack cycle. This always turns the drones into uber slow mofos for some reason, which is a right pain the ass
So, if your drones ever start going uber slow, give them another (having return to drone bay and return and orbit is useful here) then give them the correct command.
I have found that interrupting drones, during an assigned attack command or one they chose themselves, gives them this slow behavior. Its extremely annoying but there is a way around it. Assign them another command as soon as they destroy their current target (they take 2-3 seconds to chose a new target).
This is irrelevant however if they actually engage the target. Giving them a return command once they have engaged their target will make them return at full speed. Its only interrupting them that screws the AI up

Ok, ok, it's old ground, but you know when you have one of those days where you've just GOT to get something off your chest? That's me, today, and it's drones....

Just use senrty drones. You dump them, you scoop them... they don't move at all. They are always right where you expect them to be. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

Drones have been buggy since the "Return to dronebay" command was implemented, waaaaaaaaaaay back when, and has progressively gotten worse.
And it's not just an issue with the "Return to dronebay" command either, I see the same problems with the "Return and orbit" command as well.
It's been brought to CCP's attention multiple times, keep bringing it up though, eventually they'll get around to fixing their own product.
Wouldn't hold your breath though, even Blizzard fixes bugs quicker.

drones... ugh :(
my sentry drones don't listen to me, when i target something well within its range it just sits there. i tested it against a rat that started at 100km until it orbited me at about 1km, and my sentry drones would only start attacking when the rat was within 2km.
this might have been discussed before, but we don't have a search feature :)

Edited by: Death Merchant on 31/01/2006 04:47:51 Any drone that doesn't return in a timely manner I have killed. I now have a drone bay of well behaved drones who follow commands instantly. I suggest you quit coddling your drones and give them some tough love. To some this may seem a bit harsh. But sometimes the only good drone is a dead one.
OP: Yes drones are bugged to hell. Yes they have been for a long time.

I'm just curious, how do you make a gang with just yourself in it? I only found the option to form a gang with other online players... |

This bloke is correct. If you interrupt them at any point while carrying out a command they go on strike. If you wait until you think they have completed the last command all is cool. However, it can be quite difficult to figure out whether they think they have completed the last command.
Its a work around and they still have fits but it saved me a 19inch LCD screen.

I don't know what is happening on your end, but I recently tried to engage a Megathron and was promptly squashed when one of his sentry drones wrecked me at 100k for 352 damage. --------------
