Edited by: Sol Basso on 30/01/2006 15:50:44 No, the only advantage of the covert ops cloak (AFAIK) is that you can warp while cloaked
You can't be targetted or have a target, or have any modules running, or be within 2km of another object when using the cloak - if any of the above are true you wont be able to cloak
If you lock time is fast however you can decloak, lock and strike the target before they can react - obviously the covert ops cloak is better for this as they wont see you warp in......
However unless you can destroy them in one salvo (or are hunting in packs) you probably wont get many kills this way

Its a tool, not an I win button
Example, if you dont have instajumps a covert ops can warp in undetected, fly 15km past the gate, the gang warps to cloaked ship and instantly jumps out the system. The covert ops then flys back to the gate and at 2.5km decloaks and jumps
You can use it to make instajumps
The covert ops flies near an enemy formation (or past it a certain distance) and be used as a warp in point (at various distanmces for the different setups) for an offensive force, big surprise advantage
They can also be used for just spying

There are quite a few situations where cloaking is useful. A fleet of stealth bombers can do a lot of damage; even a lone stealth bomber can take out certain ships, such as industrials, under the right circumstances.
You can use Covert Ops ships to scout for ambushes, or to determine the disposition of an enemy fleet. If you're up against snipers, you can also send a cloaked ship in to get close and provide a point blank warp-in point for your gang.
And, last but not least, if you're fast you can cloak if you suddenly find yourself outgunned -- say, if you jump into a new system only to find an enemy fleet waiting for you. Similarly, they're great for running blockades.

Was chasing an elite indy the other day - my guess was that it had some nice stuff on board. However, I will never know as he cloaked and was never seen again.
