One of the hardest things (besides playing the actual game) that I found with EVE-Online is getting introduced to its story.
And I don't mean the story that's scratching the surface (4 races being stuck behind a closed wormhole) - I'm talking about important characters, companies, events, etc.
The lore seems massive but most of it is hidden away in the wiki and not in the actual game - and with missions being random (does the same apply to story missions?) - I haven't even really started to try and understand the deeper story.
I wouldn't be able to name one single guy from an EVE trailer - and I think a lot of other players may have the same problem.
In addition, CCP encourages you to write fan fiction and contribute to the eve universe, but how do I know if I'm breaking the lore?
WIth that in mind, I feel that the story of EVE Online should be clarified more. Perhaps also visualized more and brought into the game, rather than on the wiki. |

The Chronicles are a good way to start. You also have the "EVE Fiction" section of the forums for all questions and interesting discussions even CCP will involve themselves within.
You have the EVE: Origins vid. That's your gateway.
The next I would say are your chronicles.
And lastly, if you're looking to REALLY get into current events and the big stuff going down. I'd read EVE: Empyrean Age (best EVE book imho, easy read and very intense).
From there it's simply a short journey back on some of the more recent events that have happened (such as the fallout of Caldari Prime).
And then you'll be read to brawl the lore junkies or even write some impressive fictions.
EDIT: You have "The Summit" channel and "Intergalactic Summit" channels where the roleplayers hang out, and the "OOC" channel for ingame chats/questions (such as about the lore) outside of your character. |

Right - but that post (thanks btw) - sort of proofs the point I was trying to make.
It's all scattered and most of it isn't made clear in the actual game. |

Scattered because I hate to say it... it kinda has to be. You start diving and you'll realize it's huge. Many individual stories scattered throughout all of the factions.
But even then, they're just NPC characters.
Most will argue the real stories are those written by the players. And if you're aiming to make Lore, you simply integrate with a side/faction and read up any tiddlybits about them and their methods.
Then you kick in the door of the roleplayers.
EDIT: Play your chosen faction well enough, and you can reach out to CCP to become a contact for events within that side of the spectrum. (Details in the EVE Live Events forums, in one of the stickies.) |
