I'm using a similar NPC setup to run lvl 3 missions atm
6x Dual 650mm Scouts 2x Arbalest Assault Launchers
1x Large Shield Booster II 2x Tech 2 Hardeners (EXP/KIN) 2x X5 Webifiers
2x Power Diagnostic II's 2x Gyrostabilizer II's 2x Tracking Enhancer II's
This will hit any ship that moves within the 20-25km combat range of the 650's. Inties are slowed to about 4-6ms when double webbed so they get killed extremely fast. Although one webber is good enough for most npc's maybe even inties (havent tested much due to the setup being only 12 hours old ) But some ships like to orbit very close and need the second webber. Or maybe a pair of Smartbombs hmmmmmm.
Had a 412 Wrecker with the guns as well (Lg Proj 2/BS 3/ SS 3).

I've got a friend who uses the Tempest to hunt Angels in 0.0. Think his setup is something like this:
6x 800mm, 2x Seige launchers. 1x 100mn AB, 1x XL Shield booster, 1x L shield extender, 2x Hardners. 3x Gyrostabilizers, 2x PDU, 1x Cpu enhancer. 5x Med drones.

Highs: 6xDual 650s, 2 heavy nos mid: 100mn AB t2, X5 webber, 3 Cap rechargers t2 low: 2 Large repairers (one is t2), 3 hardeners and a 1600 plate.
She always brings me home.

Not if you only fighting NPCs who only do 2 dmg types.
Another question: Does anyone shield tank a Tempest when doing pvp? What if you already have a tackler?

Shield tank it if you're the Arty-damage dealer in a gang and have friends webbing and scrambling a target for you. If you're out for solo PvP fit ACs with an armour tank, means you have the medslots free for EW stuff.

For PvE using
3xT2 1400s 3x "scout" 425s 2x mixed missiles - depend on mission
2xcap boost, 1 webber, 1 range boost, 1 T2 tracking comp
2xArmor Plates 1xT2 Armor Repper, 2 Gyros
Lvl 3's done fast FAST I tell ya - Angel Extra <1 hour, Retribution record 1.5 mins.

Well, i'm noob in BS class and also haven't many skills for large weapons etc. I need setup against NPC (caldary Guristas).
ATM i have 5x1400mm artillery, 2xassault launcher, cloaking shield booster, 2x hardener (kinetic, thermal), sensor booster armor rep., 1x gyro, 4x tracking enhancer
but i can see many ppl prefer autocannon setup, is it better? aaand, also you don't use senzor boosters, but without it i would lock them ages... please, be patient with me and try to advise pls

True but if you do npc's in 0.4 or less then you can have pirates to fight

I've confirmed through painful experience that some of the big angels do thermal and some do em damage. I believe it was: Seraphims = em and Cherubims = thermal, but it may be the other way around. When trying to take a double or triple spawn of these bad boys, they will tear you apart if you are only tanked for explosive + kinetic. They will destroy your shield tank if they are doing em damage.
So, my suggestion for tanking the big angels is 1 kinetic, 1 explosive and 1 or 2 invuln/nano adaptive (depending on whether you are shield tanking or armor tanking)
My angel tanking tempest setup is: Low: 1 Large Armor Rep 2 1 N-Type Kinetic Hardner 1 N-Type Explosive Hardner 1 Nano Adaptive Membrane 1 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Plate 1 Gyrostabilizer/reactor control unit/medium armor rep 2
Mid: 1 named battleship afterburner 4 of the best cap rechargers you can get your hands on
Highs: 6 800mm scouts w Fusion L 2 heavy diminishing nos or 1 heavy diminishing nos + 1 tractor beam
Drones: (mainly for frigates/cruisers) 2 lg 2 med 1 scout
I know everyone says to shield tank the angels -- but my armor tanking skills are much more developed than my shield skills. I also find armor tanking much more comforting for some reason.
It's not the best tank, but it's a fun setup. The tank can hold well enough for you to kill most spawns, and the plate gives you enough leeway to finish off the hard hitting cherubim spawns or warp out if they are too tough. The 2 nos let you run the large armor rep constantly. Even 1 nos will let your run it almost indefinately.

I'm gonna try a tempy with a 650 setup, but if that doesn't pan out, then gonna scrap projectiles altogether for the larger ships and stick with hybrids.
I tried a 800 AC setup and it was horrible. One more shot for the tempest to shine and then it's sell em all

I have much more invested skillwise in shield tanking than armor tanking.
Is it feasible for an autocannon built Tempest to do a: large extender 2, large shield booster 2, web, afterburner, invuln field in mids, and then 2x gyro, 2x pdu 2, 2x nanofiber in low?

Edited by: Newbie Ned on 12/02/2006 15:23:25 Im wondering the same as Brakkis for the same reasons.
Any thoughts, or preferably experience anyone?
What else could be used in the lows instead of nanos (not wcs!) - a third gyro and a damage control?
Thanks

Edited by: Najenna on 13/02/2006 07:10:20 For fightting Gurista this set up works great for me. 6 Tech 2 1400mm Artillery 1 Tech 2 large shield booster 1 Tech 2 Kin shield hardener 2 eutectic or better cap rechargers 1 Tech 2 shield rechager 1 Tech 2 tracking 3 Tech 2 gyro's 2 Tech 2 P.D.U.
I also use Large titanium sabot for ammo and i chew threw bs's and i use 3 heavy drones for frigs and cruisers. This setup is good and could prolly use some improvement but its working for me just fine Once you get this Robotech thing in your blood its there to stay... |

Edited by: Sun Ra on 13/02/2006 15:56:54 Personally i use..
[Hi] 6xdual 425 ii's (barrage ammo ftw) 2x Heavy Nos(named)
[Mid] 1x MWD 1x Heavy inject 1x 26/28km scram 1x named web 1x Sensor boost/ecm/tracking disupt etc
[Low] 2x large rep ii's 3x hardeners(2 t2, 1 n-type) 1 gyro ii
I have to tank sentries so dual 425 and heavy tank is a must, ive killed bs's solo while tanking sentries with this setup, if you dont need to then switch to dual 650 and the 2x nano setup
PS dual 425+1 gyro ii way outdamages 650's wwitout a gyro

I drop teh dmg mod for the if we're just gate camping, im really unsure on EANM on minmatar ships as our extra resistance bonus is in em, amarr ships get 55% with 2 t1 versions

Good setup. Works well.
Came to realise that for solo travel through 0.0 an MWD is a must. Dual 425 do only SLIGHTLY less dps than dual 650 with similar setups.
The question on a solo dual 425 pest is fairly simple. How do you fit the lows and what do you do with the extra mid slot.
2 large rep IIs, 2 energied nano IIs and 2 gyrostabs (either high dmg)
or 2 large rep IIs, 3 active hardners (2 tech II 1 faction) and a 1600 plate. (or a good tank) Is hard to fit with tech II reps without maxed out adv wep upgrades.
I dislike going midway.
Mid slots, many people fit ecm mods, for those with less than good ew skills it might be better fitting another web, or sensor booster OR a ladar ECCM (which I use often).

Ive tested it over and over again, 800mm have the best damageoutput/dps

Yes that should be obvious enough.
However, when taking into account ease of fitting, purpose and overall fitting. The 800 are quite bad. The Dual 650 are great on Afterburner setups and the dual 425 with MWD and armor tanks are quite deadly.
The 800s come into there own in small groups where you have a shield tanked dmg modded autopest and dont need to worry about tackling, OR when you have a small group of close range BS where you need dmg as well as the mids for EW while having enough lows to fit 3 gyros and 3 nanos, or plates or stabs.
Realistically, VERY few setups work with 800s on them.
