My setup
does it make the jam often?
Also curious. Why not fit maybe a Sensor Booster to help lock on faster on smaller targets maybe?

I'm looking for a T1 sniper set up, any1 have a good one? Both on PvP and PvE
I use 1200mm carbine howitzers for ratting. I have dutifully calculated that they give a higher DPS because they use less grid meaning I can fit 6 of them without sacrificing one of my lows with a reactor control unit when I could have a gyro.
Remarkably, perhaps because some people are really stupid, 1200mm carbine howizters cost less than standard 1200mm artillery in regions I've seen.
1200mm artillery have no place in PVP sniping setups. I have little PVP experience with my tempest so I will only post my ratting setup.
Hi: 6x 1200mm carbine howizters 2x arbalest assault launchers
Med: C-51L Emergency shield booster (it's cheap if you buy it anywhere other than caldari space) Shield boost amplifier 2x hardeners, choose depending on what you are ratting. Tracking comp
Lows: Gyros. As many as you can fit. If you are ratting outside 0.0, or just are not cautious and choose not to rat with any WCS, then you might want tracking links as well since any more than 4 gyros is silly.

Ok I am here to update my earlier post. I have found a better setup for fightting Gurista ships in a Tempest and it goes like this.
**High Slots** 6x Tech 2 1400mm Arts.
**Mid Slots** 2x Tech 2 Ballistic Shield Hardeners 1x Tech 2 Large Shield Booster 1x Eutectic Cap Charger or better 1x Shield boost Amplifier
**Low Slots** 3x Tech 2 Gyro's 1x Tech 2 Tracking Enhancer 2x Tech 2 Power Diag's or swap out 1 gyro for a Tech 2 Signal amplifier i prefer damage over longer range attack for the tank is unbreakable.
This basically a Tech 2 setup for those of you who can't afford the really good stuff but this setup works great I can solo 3 1.55 bs's and 3 fris or 3 cruisers with no problem. Word of advise warp in at 60km and make sure your useing Titanium Sabot ammo. Comeing to you from your friendly N.A.G.A. Corp. Once you get this Robotech thing in your blood its there to stay... |

[Low] 2x large rep ii's 3x hardeners(2 t2, 1 n-type) 1 gyro ii
I have to tank sentries so dual 425 and heavy tank is a must, ive killed bs's solo while tanking sentries with this setup, if you dont need to then switch to dual 650 and the 2x nano setup
PS dual 425+1 gyro ii way outdamages 650's wwitout a gyro
Thats me. Im not entirely satisfied. Ill probably ride this till I get my human skills up a bit. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

I do Minmatar missions.. mostly Angels/amarr
Use nuclear and emp only... in my missions.
Use Nuclear at 100K warpins, and emp for killing tougher ships at about 70K or under.
For some of the drone missions, I use a Vagabond, its quicker, easier to fit and is a better bet against drones IMO.
Only done some 12-15 lvl 4 missions, and avoid the really long ones or I would go insane.

I'm playing around in QuickFit, and I'm getting some downright lousy DPS numbers with 6x 1400mm and 3x gyro. 151 DPS with Nuclear ammo before any resists. This is with me having punched in Gunnery 5, Large Projectile 5, Rapid Firing 4, and Minmatar Battleship 3, and using T2 gyros (but T1 guns). Is this normal, or am I missing something? The setup I have on there would pull 81km optimal with the Nuclear easily, with another 40km falloff. Am I getting reasonable numbers for damage given the skills I've input, or am I missing something? Also, if I were to hop into a Tempest with that setup and those skills, would I get owned at level 4 missions? How about long-range support in PvP?

To use a Tempest well you really do need BS 4 ATLEAST. Its dual dmg bonus is essential for using 1400s.
Can break most every tank using my setup, but mostly because I have surgical strike 5, large arti spec 4, BS 5 and pretty much all gunnery at 5. Should still be doable with lower skills, will take longer.

Looks like going from BS3 to BS4 gives a +10.8% DoT bonus, and 4-5 gives +1/9 DoT bonus. Yeah, definitely the gift that keeps on giving.
So with that in mind, does it sound like my setup is in the ballpark of where it is expected to be? I also tossed together an autocannon setup that does 337 DPS (again, T2 damage mods, T1 guns).

As always there will b only one rule for Tempest. Skills Skills Skills. Tempest is the most unforginving BS of all. U make one mistake and u are dead. AS for me, I use all damage setup. 6x1400T2, 3 Gyros T2 + 2tracking comps T2, 3 sensor boosters T2. There is no frigate ceptor or cruiser out there who will survive this kind of bombardment. Tnkaed cruisers maybe lucky enough to survive to see the second Salvo after 10 Secs, but again there is not much of them out there.
Dont sit in Tmepst under BS lvl4, and at least 5 mils in gunnery, projectile wise. http://www.catacomb.co.yu/images/Sig_Lepra.gif[/IMG]

Not against larger ships, but sometimes. You dont need to jam someone 100% of the time. One Jam cycle + relock delay is a lot of lost DPS. Same principle against smaller ships, except you make them lose DPS more often. Its pseudo-tanking.
That slot also sometimes becomes a second webber, or more often now, a second scram. Rarely a sensor booster anymore since <unsupported assertion> frig gangs appear to be becoming less common </unsupported assertion>.
The other layout in there is a mid rack full of Jammers or Dampers, when you're with a small gang/fleet. Works wonders.
There used to be a sig here, but I got bored of it.

For a long time i tried to hunt "Blood Raider" NPC's with my tempest.. it was impossible to break their tank when i had my skills at "Minmatar BS 2" and "Large Projectile 2" but after i realized taht skills are everything in a minmatar ship, especially tempest, i trained to "Minmatar Battleship 4" and "Large Projectile 5" i really started to cheaw those amarrian ships... Also i found that tempest sucks on shield tanking on npc hunting missons or maybe that was because of i have no shield tanking experience at all.. so i made a setup that gives nice damage, loaded with nice guns and a really though armor tank, maybe better than an apoc in resist's.. here it is:
Hi SLots:
6 x 1400mm's (never tell me to use 800's i hate em :P ) 2x Heavy Launchers (good for any size of ships)
Med Slots:
4x Cap Rechargers 1x Tracking Computer (Must have for 1400's imo)
Low Slots:
2x Thermic Hardener 1x EM Hardener 1x Named Damage Control 1x Accomodation Large Armor Rep (Dunno if u can fit T2 instead) 1x RCU II
with this ship i can tank 3 1.2mil. battleships and a BC nearly without activating the armor repairer (activated once for all the battle).. but u can put online large repairers nearly forever i guess (i never put em online continiusly but tried once and cap stopped draining at %50) with this setup u got about %86-87 EM and Thermic Resists but crap on other resists (kin and exp) so this setup is only good for hunting npc's who deals EM and Thermal Damage. for the first time i feel safe in a Tempest and i love it . and theres a point that i dont understand is why ppl saying 1400mm's cant hit anything at all? i can hit a cruiser from 17km! the trick is the closer you get the lower transversal speed you must have... just go pararell with your target and see the magic :P
if you have any seggestions about this setup please let me know... (oh god please dont tell me 800's i hate em! )

i dont think that i need an afterburner for keeping the distance. i can shoot any size of ship from any distance... for close range cruisers and frigs i got 2 heavy launchers and enough drones and for bigger ships like BC's and BS's i got 1400mm's... i can shot em from close range without a problem.

I don't understand why people don't like 1200mm. It's not that bad in some situation. For example I run lvl 3 missions with mostly newbie skills and I do them really fast no matter how many the cruisers/frigs is there. I can desently hit things up to 100km (with SB). And two tracking comps and one target painter = I can get almost 80-90% hit rate on any NPC cruiser on any orbite/course they like from 5 to 100km. I have 6 of them, plus AB T2, and ok-tank... without that one PDS when I get to Engenering 5...
I even tried it on Massive Attack 3 lvl and survived :) (was too far from base with AC).
Good guns for newbs .

If you're able to keep the B-Throne at ~15 kms. You will win. This will require a MWD. It will be close even if you don't have one tho.
I would like some more Sniping set-ups pls. (o/ to Sarmaul & Testy :))

Agreed, to fit the mwd you could use one heavy & one med nos then you can fit 2x t2 reps maybe drop a dmg mod for a plate depending they way you fly.
You can do the same setup + mwd if u use dual 425's also as long as u can get ammo easy

Haven't lost to one yet. The jammer cuts into their DPS enough that's it's tankable, unless you get really unlucky and don't even get one cycle. Also, if you *are* getting spanked by a 'thron, you can always warp out on the next successful jam cycle. -Wrayeth

Edited by: Evil Pixie on 30/03/2006 20:43:34 Okay I'll do it myself. /me Grumbles...
6x 1400s 2-3x Sensor Boosters, 1-2x Tracking Computers, 1 XL SB 3x Gyros, 2 Stabs, 1 RCU
Does this even fit?
This would be for Gate Camping in 0.0 with about 10 other BS's.
Looking for feedback.

I went ratting today for Angels in my tempest. This was my setup.
High 6x Dual 650mm Repeating Artillery (using Nuclear L) 2x Assault Launcher II
Mid 1x Large Shield Extender 1x CL-5 Shield Booster 1x active explosive hardner 1x active kinetic hardner 1x active thermal hardner
Low 3x cross-lateral gyrostabilisers 3x PDU's
For Angel Generals, Warlords, War General and basically anything under 1mil isk bounty it works fine, although it really chews through the Nuclear L ammo about 2000 rounds/8 BS's
Anything over 1mil isk bounty stays out of range so this setup sucks for them. Time to try another one...

Yes they are that bad. People giving you setups with 1200's, would easily get a much better setup with 1400's instead. ___________________________ Brutors Rule! My Eve-vids; Click. |
