People underestimate just how good passive tanking is.
If you drop 2 extenders for invul IIs you will take half as much damage while dropping your total HP and regen by only 25%. That should drop your grid use enough that you can put in a 6th relay which will boost your regen by 15% over the PDS.
It should be a noticable improvement.
However your cap will be nerfed so hard if might actually have trouble running the 2 hardeners

I found using 1 multispec didn't work out quite well (or maybe i just had bad luck, i dropped it for for a tracking disruptor which is working better for me.
Allthough i used a bit different setup before (MWD instead of AB and Large+med rep instead of 2 large), i kinda miss the MWD speed and think i will change to using dual 425's because of that.
I like to keep a megathron at the range i prefer, and the tracking disruptor helps a lot with that (even when they use t2 ammo).
I know the tracking disruptor won't help against a Raven so i have to be carefull around those.

For solo PVP i use:
Hi: 6x Dual 650mm II 2x Heavy Diminishing Nos Med: 1x MWD II 1x Fleeting Web 1x Fleeting 20km Scramb 1x Heavy Electrochemical cap Booster 1x Hypnos Multispec Low: 1x Large Armor Rep II 1x 1600mm Tungesten Plate 2x EANM II 1x Damage Control 1x Gyrostab II
I think its very important to have a MWD fitted at all times, because if you get in BlasterThron web range, youre good as dead :P ___________________

Edited by: LodeArm on 12/06/2006 15:55:55 Hey
Well as ive been told dual 650s and 800mm have a very similar dps so go with dual650s as the fitting are less.
Until recently ive been flying a Machrial which is pure autocannon ownage. But having just bought a Fleet Tempest with which I have the feeling autocannons with out t2 ammo (barrage) will suck. So wot im wondering is wot in the way of 1200mm and 1400mm settup might work well for fleet tempest. which has a base of 8k sheilds 6 med and 6 low slots. baring in mind the tank is a must for soloing lv4s.
As im aiming for a nice basic settup that can be altered depending on the mission.
My current settup relies on having T2 Large Barrage ammo.
High - 6 T2 Dual 650mms - 2 Domination Cruise Launchers
Med - T2 Xlarge Sheild Booster - 4 Hardners t1 (alter depending on npcs) and 1 t2 large sheild extender
Low - 4 t2 Pdu's 1 t2 Co-processor 1x t2 tackng mod
This gives just over 15k of sheilds with a sheild recharge of about 1000 secs, so a little better than a raven. As well as 6199 cap with a recharger of 485 secs.
I have rather good sheild and cap skills, so im pondering if i could alter this settup to fit artillary, but still be able to whoop npc bs's with out using t2 ammo?
Any thoughts would be sweet.

My Setup
[High] 6xDual 650mm's Tech I [EMP L] Assault Launcher [Bloodclaw Missile] Small Tractor Beam I
[Mid] 100mn AB Target Painter I X5 Web Capacitor Recharger I Tracking Computer I
[Low] 1600mm Rolled Tungsten n-type Thermic Microcell Adaptive Nano Large Armor Repairer Tracking Enhancer Gyrostabilizer II
Ok. A corp mate wanted to test out some stuff. He came out in a vagabond. Took me down pretty quick to about 15% armor, even when I was repairing. I was not firing back at this time, I figured I could have destroyed him before he took me out.
I tried a few shots and got hits of about 23 dmg if I hit at all. He was in absolutely no danger. I docked and swapped the cap recharger for another web and was able to get through to him as long as he was double webbed.
He then came out in a shield tanked tempest. The thing completely destroyed me. I asked him for his setup and he said it was a friend's, something like an XL booster, injector shield hardners. He was also using 800mms instead of 650mms.
I figured since the tempest had more low, it would be better to armor tank it. Should I shield tank it? My setup works fine against NPC rats, but obviously horrible in PVP. What do I need to do to make my ship better in PVP.
Here is the new setup I am considering
[Highs] 6 x 800mm's [EMP L] 2 x Heavy Launchers [Widowmaker Heavy Missile]
[Mid] Heavy Electrochemical Cap Booster [800s] XL C5-1 Shield Booster Shield EM Hardener Shield Kinetic Hardener Shield Thermal Hardener
[Low] 2 x Gyrostabilizers II 2 x Tracking Enhancer II (will have the skills for it soon) 2 x ??? More Gyros maybe???

1. He has a MWD. A MWD takes 25% of your cap so hes down to 3894cap. Every cycle of MWDing takes bout 633cap (High Speed Manv lvl4 MWD II). If you have to keep range with a mega thats alot of cap + he has Neutralizers (medium but still) it takes some cap there doesnt it, and in the end he has to repair himself. If he would be doing that without an injector, he would be out of cap in like 30sec and that wouldnt be good, would it? ;) ___________________

Any dual rep+cap booster ac setup will do fine. Even single rep+plate fit should do well as long as you're not fighting bs.
Personally, I had a sensor booster instead of multispec, to catch outgoing haulers / cruisers etc. Everything else was pretty standard.

oh my, your mass will be HUGE and thus small and flying it would be like flying a mountain. Also better resists would make you last longer than an extra 1600mm Plate =/
Bottom line, it would take u ages to get into proper range with ur ACs and then you would still not last as long as setups with better resistances. ______________________

Here is my lvl 4 soloing set up:
4x 1400mm Protos 4x Heavy Missile Launchers II (always have some precision Missiles in my cargo in case of trouble ie. unwanted guests ;-))
4x cap rechergers II 1x Target Painter II
4x t2 active hardener (2x kin, 2x therm against serps ie.) 1x Large Repper II 1x whatever (gyrostab II / 1600mm plate)
5x light T2 drones 5x meds T2 drones
- Since cruisers and frigs are the biggest threats in lvl 4 missions, i got the 4 heavies against them (i got quite high skills on them, so thats an additional reason, cruise missiles with good skills would do better against cruisers, even torps i guess (high pwg usage)).
- the 4 hardeners and large repper can run forever with this set up. with painter, not (yet). 90% of all lvl 4 missions are tanked with ease this way.
- My optimal combat range is around 40km
- Painted frigs with t2 light drones on them are torn to schredds, with heavies firing at them even faster.
- For missions with more bs and less frigs (ie. pirate invasion against angels), I sometimes use 5x 1400mm protos and 3 siege launchers (good pwg usage lowering skills required) , fitting a pgu in a low slot. the light and med drones can easely take care of all the close range cruisers and frigs.
- for pvp this set up is just crap ;-)

What skills are you packing to do any meaningful dps with this - I've tried this setup nd I'm really struggling to hit often with ac's. ranges and things too - web needs 10km range, scram needs 20km range and guns are 3km optimal with 11km falloff. I can see that this should be a decent setup but I can't seem to make it work.

Barrage L is your friend. Also, consider replacing a gyro with a dcu, since as everyone is using cap boosters lately you need to tank more. DPS isn't meaningful in any way with an dual rep AC tempest; so either go for a plated hail setup, either go for a shield tanked AC setup (gang only, of course).

Just picked-up my Tempest over the weekend. My skills are not quite up to snuff (yet, I'm working on it) and I have at least 1,253,693 questions about set-up but I'll start with one.
I thought that Weapon Upgrades were not stackable? For example the Gyrostabilizer descriptions read:
"Gives a bonus to the speed and damage of projectile turrets. Penalty: Using more than one type of this module or similar modules that affect the same attribute on the ship will be penalized."
Yet several of the set-ups outlined on this thread recommend using more than one Gyro?
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for the help. There are some great set-ups here but I want to make sure I've dotted my I's and crossed my T's as much as possible before sending my Tempest out into the cold, black reaches of space.

You can use more than one, however their bonus is "penalized". Though, the bonus of the second or third gyro is still very often worthwhile. You can got up to four, then the bouns is completely worthless.

Mission-running (level 4) Tempest setup please. I have only just bought it!
My preference is for long range. Current setup is 6 1400s, 2 cruise launchers, 100mn AB, sensor booster and 2 cap rechargers, 1x large repper, 3 hardeners and 2 pds/1 rcu. I haven't got much grid left, but plenty of cpu. is this horrible for level 4, or will I manage?
My gut feeling is that the tank isn't good enough. My skills would suit either shield or armour tanking.
I have been told that maybe dropping to 1200s and shield tanking, with lows full of PDS and gyros, is the way to go. Any comments?

Although I have very little experience with Level 4's my I have run a few with a very similear setup and I found it didn't work well. I don't have very advanced Skills (5.4m SP) but I couldn't really hit stuff without a lot of Tracking Mods in mids/lows.
I would think I'd go for AC's and free up the low slots that I would have needed for the PDU/RCU and put in another Repper, plates and have my mids with a couple webbers, AB, cap injector and some cap rechargers.
I kinda broke the bank while getting the tempest/outfitted so I've not got the chance to play with AC's.

This is what I use for lvl 4:
6 dual 650mm 2 heavy nos
1 AB, 4 T2 cap rechargers
2 large rep 3 hardners 1 T2 gyro
Works just fine for me. Can't solo missions like the extras or vengeance but does everything else just fine.

--Low-- 2x Large Accom Rep 1x Explosive Hardener II 1x Kinetic Hardener II 1x Thermic Hardener II 1x Named Damage Control
The AB requires AWG 5 to fit, which is painful. As I do a lot of combat around stations, I would probably drop it for a sensor booster, and upgrade one of the armour reps to T2.
It can also be fun to replace the AB and one Webber for a couple of ECCM, if the enemy is whoring ECM a lot.

Haven't decided what this setup is good for yet, sort of a derrivative of a setup I used with great success before RMR.
6x 1200mm 2 2x Rocket 2
1x Faint Warp Disruptor 1x XL Clarity Ward 2x Invulnerability 1x Electrochemical Cap Booster
3x Gyro 2 2x LADAR Backup 2 1x Damage Control
The old pre-RMR setup:
6x 1200mm 'Scout' 2x Rockets
1x XL Clarity Ward 3x Hardener 1x Electrochemical Cap Booster
6x Gyro 2
What that got me was a ship that could hit for over 1000 from 8km-45km with EMP and could shield tank well enough for a sustained engagement. RMR made the setup useless and I'm not sure it's valid anymore with the damage mod stacking the way it is and having only three Gyro 2s. Something to try though. If nothing else it could wander around as the heavy hitter in a small group with a tackler and maybe a Blackbird.

Hi
Ive been using a Tempest for a while now for ratting in 0.0.
My setup is: Hi: 650s and 2 nos Mid: AB/web/L Shield boost/ 2 hardeners(active, 1 invul II, 1 rat specific) Lo: Damage mods n stuff
This works fine - I can tank triple 1.5 mil spawns long enough to kill them. But heres my question.
What is a good SHIELD tank setup purely to tank for corp mining ops. I was thinking: Hi: As many Nos as I can fit and then.....??? Mid: L(?) Shield boost/shield boost amp/3 hardeners (active) Lo: Shield relays/PDUs and....?
So anyone have an uber tank they can share? Offensive capability is not required (although 4+ nos and a big tank should hold off any small/solo pirate gangs, I think)
Thanks

someone might have posted these but ill post em anyways, these are pvp setups both armour and shield tanked. ow and one more thing, im just going to right down what modules they are and not t2 or named, figure that out yourself.
armour tank: high: 6 650mm repeating arties, 2 heavy nos med: warp scrammer, webber, afterburner/mwd, heavy cap booster, target painter ( yes a painter ) :P/ or put a sensor booste rhere if you want to or whatever. low: 2 large armour reppers, exp hardner, kinetic hardner, therm hardner and a damage control.
shield tank: high: 6 650mm or 800mm if youre in a fight against smaller ships such as cruisers and battlecruisers with tacklers on your side or 1200mm and 1400mm when in fights with battleships. and again 2 nos
med: x-large shield booster, boost amplifier, em -shield hardner, therm shield hardner. and a ab/mwd or a cap booster. low: 3 gyros and whatever you need to fit the rest :P,. cpu and pdu's
and i thank inzi for the armour tank setup, and maximada for the shield tank setup. you better thank them 2 if youre going to use em !! :@
