Hi,
I am just getting to do heavier mining and am looking for some means to do that.
So, is anyone selling a Harvester Drones BP or BPC and for which price?
I am using Miner I's and would also like to improve this. Which Mining Lasers would be better? I surely can't afford Miner II's for the next couple of weeks, I guess...
Seeking to buy the stuff about middle of next week.
Best regads and thanks,

Edited by: Xanthos on 29/08/2003 06:39:08 Well as for the Harvesters, there isn't a BP. They would drop off of Convoy ships in large amounts, but now CCP has patched it so the most you will find on a convoy if you're lucky is 5. Your only option is to either buy them off the market or stick to some of the cheaper models of mining drones.
As for the Mining Laser, you could go for a Dual Diode lasers which are reasonably cheap. The next step down from Miner IIs are CU vapours which you can find for various prices around 1mil as people seem to be clearing them out to be replaced by the Miner IIs.

Okay, thanks! I will go for those CU Vapours, though I might need some time to get the money.
On the Harvesters... could s.o. tell me where to find an appropriate convoi and how I can identify it? Do I have to look for ships named 'trader' or such? Which region/security level?
Besides, if I put minerals on the market (sell order) for the average price, how long might it take until these are picked up ATM? What range should I set for these minerals (and what does this setting mean anyway...)?

Well as for the harvesters they drop off of convoys. They tend to fly around stations that are in 0.5-0.7 space atleast they would in my experience but you might find them elsewhere.
Thing is it can be kinda tough to find a convoy and then you have to be able to kill it which can be done with a frigate but somewhat dangerously, better recommended with a cruiser. But lastly they drop very rarely and when they do it could be anywhere from 1-5max.
You're better off just mining and buying them, they go for 100k-150k generally on the trade channel.

In fairly large amounts your ore should sell pretty quickly, try to sell it all at one station and large amounts in one go, if you place a sell order then you are also more likely to get a good price.

Didn't mention that I (we) fly Moa and Rupture.
So I guess a convoi might be a possible task. But what about the influence on the sec. rating, when we attack a convoi near a station? We just went hunting NPC-pirates until now...
Any thing we should know?
The idea to buy Harvesters is okay, but as we need 20 I'd really like to try the alternative.
@Berged: Thx, I have good refining skills and will sell the loads at 1 station (with range set to station?) from now on.

If your gonna attack a convoy...(Easier to buy havrs by the way)
Make sure you are 60km away from sentry guns and if possible scan the cargo first as i blow em up and end up with crap trade goods like coolant.
You will only take an empire specific hit as you will go -0.30 with whichever station the convoy left...E.G = Astral mining
Not sure but i think the station wont allow you to dock for a while at least(unconfirmed)
So be careful and try to avoid sentry guns and police.....

Since it's outdated information:
Harvesters used to drop off of Astral Mining convoys. The best place to find Astral convoys is Aufay. I suggest taking a cargo scanner if hunting so you don't waste faction. Of course, sometimes the only way to get a "good" convoy to respawn is to kill existing convoys. This used to be well worth the hit, it isn't any more. (Keep in mind that negative faction/sec status recovers towards 0.0 at a rate of 0.1 per day. Negative faction will not be a problem for you until you hit -2.0, at which point the navy of that faction will start attacking you on sight.)
You will not lose security status, but you will lose race faction and faction with the corporation that owns the convoy you blast. (Astral in this case.)
For a period of time (Most likely 15 minutes, I can confirm it is no longer than 40 minutes), station and gate sentry guns belonging to the convoy's faction will shoot at you if you get within 55-60 km.
Also, convoys don't start shooting until you get within 6-10 km of them after you've agroed them. If you don't get closer than 6-10 km of any convoy ship, they won't fire a shot. Once they start firing, they won't stop until you are out of weapon range (often 20 km+). And they HURT once they open up.
You can take them out with a frigate easily if you stay more than 10 km out from a convoy ship at all times you're attacking.
P.S. Don't use drones - the convoys will eat them alive. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

When attacking convoys, make sure you AND the convoy is at least 55km from the closest station/sentry gun before attacking. Stay at least 7-10km from the convoy ships when attacking or they will pound you with their weapons even in a cruiser. Dont use drones unless you use heavies, or unless you are willing to lose them (heavy drones have decent survival rate against convoys, but lighter ones get eaten up).
Once youve toasted a convoy, you have to warp somewhere else in system and then warp back before the station you were close to will let you dock. As long as you were at least 55km from the station when you took out the convoy the station sentry guns wont shoot at you (unless you get too low of faction in which case the race who owned the convoy will shoot at you on sight regardless of location).

The convoy can be any range for the guns. (At least this used to be the case.) You just have to be 55 km or more out.
I have blasted convoys that were within 55 km of sentries without any problems. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

While it is good to take precautions to ensure your ship is not lost when attacking the convoy, lest you not forget your reputation and standings as well. While at this point in the game most corporations and the military are quite lax on *****ing down on those with poor standings, there may come a time when such will change.
I would hate to be in your shoes, should the corporation who owned those convoys decide to go on a rampage. Even worse, if one of the races decided anyone who has taken action against one of their own is now considered a target to be destroyed.

Yes that is a real concern. CEO of my previous corporation was for a long time not able to enter Caldari space (without being shot on sight by police and gate guns everywhere) because he killed one too many Caldari convoys without raising his Caldari faction back up.

WOW, great input here! Thanks 2 all.
I think this is really tempting. I will buckle my rails and cruise missiles to look for a suitable test-object.
The biggest concern might be the loss reputation. So, I will just go for a few convois and not make a living on this. Any tip on how I can raise my faction standings back up?
