VEry unlikely it could go to console due to the rigidity of that medium. Either PC or specialized device. If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there. |

The fans of CCP play their games on computers. Even though I plan on buying a PS4, I will be bummed out if VAL doesnt come out on the PC.
The situation now: I have a PS3, but playing FPS games with a gamepad is like shaving with a rock. Thus I do not play DUST.
Valkyire will be more suited for the gamepad, but the core audience is still on PC. So even though it doesnt have to be a PC excusive. It sure as hell needs to be there.
1. there is an average of 3-4k dedicated players on all the time 2. dust can use a mouse and keyboard
Oh wow, 3-4k active players who don't have to pay to play. I'm sure that's working out for them well. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

I'm sure that's working out for them well. Free to Play games are supposed to attract massive crowds of players who might spend the occasional tenner. Not tiny cult followings. I can tell you never played dust otherwise you would know how training sp works... if you want to train sp at a decent rate you pay for the implant s...

Even if, by the generous metric of 50%, you account for the hardcore players buying stuff, that's only about 2-3k.
CCP spent years on this, and probably lots of dough to boot. They also have to pay for the servers.
For 2-3 thousand people? There is no equation where that isn't a colossal waste of time. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

the game most likely was expected to take a loss for the first few years of operation, and gain players as it became more popular. That's p miuch what happens to any MMO game that is not a runaway hit. you have to plan for that eventuality in any business plan. |

Not true. Most MMOs start out acceptably strong then bleed off players after a few months.
DUST is just a flop. They tried, I get it. And now it's coupled in with EVE, so it's not easily gotten rid of.

thats active at any point in time. so that could be up to 12-24 k people who play each day.
that does not account for weekend warriors. and the fact that one of the boosters you dont have to play to gain sp... its called the passive booster.
i would guess that the average dust player pays on average $20 a month There are no stupid Questions... just stupid people... Winter Expansion new ship request |

But we still get to say "We told you so". Actually, as has been pointed out before, the beauty of DUST is that it doesn't need a huge player base to be profitable long term. Much like EVE, it is starting with a small but loyal base that will grow as the game does over time. It's not designed to be a big bang that dies after a few months, it's designed for the slow burn.
I wouldn't count it out just yet. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

interesting fact eve was also a flop... but it had hardcore dedicated players who helped the game evolve to what it is today...
not saying this will happen with dust. but that is what they are shooting for.
they have hardcore dedicated players who are determined to work with the devs to make the game better.
the fact they are doing montly point releases to fix the game proves this. There are no stupid Questions... just stupid people... Winter Expansion new ship request |

Maybe, since they proved to be so amazing good in developing succesfull FPS console games, so now is a good idea to release another title for console only... |

The difference is that those people paid subs. No one does for DUST. Sure, maybe some of them pay for "boosters", but you can't tell me that the majority do.
Heck, anyone I've mentioned it to automatically tells me that there isn't much in "playing a P2W shooter". Or they say "I'll stick to Planetside 2 since it's on PC".
The console game crowd doesn't like it(they are spoiled for choice anyway), the PC game crowd can't play it. What about that spells success? I guarantee you that they are losing money just on maintaining the game and staff for the game. Which means that our EVE subs are paying for it, too.
[Edit: What I'm saying is this. Why not PC? Why freaking soon-to-be-completely-replaced PS3? Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

On topic
Well Custom PC Magazine Issue 123 has an article about the long waited for reappearance of Space based PC games.
Written by Rick Lane
The introduction includes this: 'players options were limited to X3 or EVE. If you weren't a fan of distinctly German-flavoured space simulations or incredibly unforgiving MMOs, the only option was to look at other genres'
It then lists and reviews 8 new PC space games on the horizon.
EVE: Valkyrie is one of them.
The end quote for Valkyrie section is 'Given the footage CCP has made available, the potential for an amazing immersive experience is very exciting'
So even if it is ported to other platforms it is coming to a PC.
Time to get those neck musles back into shape
