is it possible to jump from system to system solo or will I need help from someone else? |

That's really not a "New Citizens" question, but anyway:
That depends on whether you call using alliance star bases "help from someone". You need a cyno at the destination - usually that is created by another pilot. However, there's a POS module that acts as a permanent cyno (Cynosural Generator Array), which allows you to jump around without the help of any other online pilot, as long as you stay in space that your alliance has sovereignty over.
But jumping around in a capital without at least a scout at the destination is just asking for it to be ambushed and destroyed. |

Most cap pilots have an alt (on another account) to provide cynos in safe locations. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. The difference between an enemy and a friend is that you stab your enemies in the front. |

Don't trust just anyone to activate a cyno for you. Use an alt on a second account.
Apart from that, yes, it is possible to move a jump capable ship around on your own, though I recommend only from station-to-station where you can immediately dock. Anything else is very risky. Jumping blind is also suicide.
The cyno ship will likely be destroyed, hence using cyno alts with less than 900,000 skill points is recommended, so that clone replacement is free. Expect to lose the cyno ship on every jump.
Surprisingly, I've only lost a cyno alt in transit [I screwed-up, and got caught by an Interceptor], and not after activation. Sometimes you'll be ignored upon activation, and sometimes you won't. I've jumped to a wormhole in a Rorqual alongside a Rhea [his idea], at which point the Rhea pilot said, "This was probably not a good idea", as we both slowly inched towards the wormhole several kilometres distant... with a hostile in the system. |

What Tau said.
Basically, it takes 2 to move a capital (the capital and the cyno). But you can also be the cyno with a 2nd account.
And it is actually prefered as you can trust nobody with the cyno fully. So far in my 3 years in EVE there are only 4 people I do trust with a cyno because I know them well enough. Anybody else is not allowed to cyno me in. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

If you need to ask this question, you are either a year or two away from flying caps or you have just bought a character and really shouldn't be flying them. |

I fully agree with this.
Though it could be that he just want to know how they work and thus deserve an answer. But as you say, if you dont know the basics on moving capitals and cyno mechanism you should NOT be flying a capital ship. Want to have some chat in game? It is a really good idea to practice jumping on Singularity (SiSi) the test server, where you can buy capitals for 100 ISK, and practice with the same stations you'll be using on Tranquility (TQ) the live server. |

The other thing you can do when cynoing around is to use recons.
They are more expensive if you lose them (~200m +), but two things make that unlikely in most situations:
1. It's a recon (so it's cloakywarpy, more ehp, and potentially e-war. All these add to survivability)
2. Cyno field timer is cut in half (normal timer is 10 minutes, ensuring a death sentence for your little frig. 5 minutes is much more manageable)
Using the recon also leaves open the option to bait/kill solo players who are keen for an 'easy cyno kill'. Obviously you need balls of steel, and a good idea what you're getting yourself into. That said, it's pretty damn funny to see a ship swoop in to kill your rapier just to get webbed then have a drone-damage-amp'd-sensor-boosted-carrier-load-of-drones on them 5 seconds later. Falcons work too.
If you're dumb/ballsy enough to do this kind of thing, don't compound your stupidity by being predictable about it though.
It's not the most clever thing to do for everyone (or everywhere), but I consider using recons to cyno a justifiable risk in most circumstances. You should still have t1 cyno frigs regardless, but a recon alt never hurt anyone either =D. Poster is not to be held responsible for damages to keyboards and/or noses caused by hot beverages. |

Comments like this have no place in the New Citizens area unless you also answer the question. I have no problem with adding a warning like that to your answer, but to say that and nothing else does not help the OP, just leaves them feeling insulted. |

tbh I just ask in alliance chat and someone opens one, so the whole.. dont trust anyone is a bit.. meh... really depends on your alliance mates. Supers.. sure those are a tad more expensive but a regular dread or carrier? meh..
otherwise, noob ship cyno is the best. keep the civilian gun in the high and just shoot the station so the station guns will kill you. that way the cyno isn't up for long and you have a 50/50 chance of loosing the cyno module. big deal they arent exactly expensive |

If you trust someone you dont know to light your cynos
1. you will find yourself flying off station because of a bad location 2. you will find yourself loading grid with 10 pl supers waiting to gank you 3. you will deserve every bit of your loss and shame for making an avoidable loss
Alliance chat is one of the worst places to ask for a cyno. While you maybe able to trust you corp ceo to weed out the awoxers relying on an alliance of any size to have consistent recruiting standards is perilous. A carrier or dread is an expensive loss to replace for most players. A super is even more expensive to replace. I cant tell you how many times i have seen folks in nullsec alliances lose their supers and regular capitals in exactly this way. If you dont know the person get someone else to light it.
